Metastatic disease without lymph node involvment?
I was wondering if anyone out there had a metastatic disease to the liver without having lymph node involvment? I was diagnosed in Oct 08 with stage 1, no lymph node involvement and a Oncotype of 18, had 3 lumpectomies, followed by radiation. I recently had a CT scan of my abdomen and the report came back showing 3 lesions that are suggesting metastatic disease. I am scheduled for a PET scan on tuesday. Needless to say, I am a little scared.

so sorry you are dealing with this, there is a very long thread on this from a few months ago...it has the stats. While it is rare, it is possible.
-
I, too, am sorry that you are having to deal with this. May I ask if you have been on Tamoxifen or an AI?
-
Yes. It is possible.
It is not common.

Yes, I have been on Tamoxifen since April of this year. I finished my radiation the end of March.

I know of one woman who had this happen - lungs, not liver. She was triple negative.
I will be thinking of you on Tuesday and praying that the pet comes back fine. Do CT scans have false positives like MRI's?
-
Yes. CT scans can have false positives.

Thanks April for the prayers, I am hoping the CT scan was a false positive... I'll keep you informed.

I don't have liver mets, but I have lung and brain and had no node involvement - I am her2 positive. Until you have a biopsy, there is definitely a possibility this is not mets and could totally be a false positive :> I was diagnosed as stage IV from the get-go, but the CT scan showed I had a 2cm mass on my ovary, which scared the crap outta me. An ultrasound showed my ovary is perfectly fine. I have ct scans done every 2 months, and nothing shows up now. So it is very possible the machine may not be accurate.
Keep us updated and best of luck to you!! lisa

Quick update, the PET scan was inconclusive, so I am having an MRI tomorrow... nothing ever seems to be simple with me... ugh......
-
Well, inconclusive is not all bad! Prayers and positive thoughts coming your way for a clear MRI. Please keep us posted!

Just wanted to let you know the MRI showed the lesions to be hemangiomas, thank God! I was so relieved! I will be following up with a liver specialist. Thank you all for the prayers and positive thoughts!
