Morning all!  Dh's shoulder is still sore but he can move it easily so he's not calling the doc today.  I probably wouldn't either.  Where he hit his head was a sandy section and he has more of a sand "burn" on the skin.  Could have been much worse!

MsMarilyn (OK....you spilled the secret....you will now be called "Buffy").....your family has really been hit with more than your share lately.  I truly wished you lived closer....why do I think you would have some little Illinois Ladies dropping by!  But you know.....you have the right idea.  Thanksgiving is really not about the turkey.....it is about family and love and sharing.  Actually - pizza sounds just right and I LOVE "worms in dirt"!  I do hope your drains come out today.  I only had the one but it was so long and loopy inside my body.....wish someone would explain why they leave all these feet of tube.  Must be in case we try and yank it out ourselves, which knowing women, we would of course have done so!

Susan....let us know how the brining is going!  I did post to you of FB - there I was, watching NCIS last night....and Ducky was brining away!!!!  This must be the new, hot thing.  I think I am gonna try it with a chicken, or maybe a turkey breast.

BJ....I know you probably won't see this before you go.....but have a wonderful time!  Take a walk on the beach for me!

Jackie....my Mom used to make turkey soup too!  I had forgotten all about that.  Funny story for you....it was the day after Thanksgiving and Mom was making the soup and it was simmering away.  She had left a dish towel too near the burner and it caught on fire.  My Dad ran over and picked it up and threw it in the closest liquid - which of course was the soup!  You know....it had a rather smokey flavor that year but it was quite good!  You may want to try that (NOT!).......

Quiet day for me....decorations are up, all fall decorations packed away in the bsmt, just some laundry (hey, Donna....we need to save that website...GREAT idea!).  DH has to take my SUV in at 11:30 - some silly recall thingy about the stop lamp in back...they swear it will only take 15-20 mintures but we will see about that!  Have a good day everyone.....all you cooks....well, take breaks when you can!

PS: Donna....almost forgot...all those face creams can cause swelling and redness but I don't think this is what is going on....maybe a virus you are coming down with altho I certainly hope not!  Glad you are going to check it out....

Rather than a quote I thought you might all enjoy this:

Thanksgiving Day is the fourth Thursday in November. The holiday dates back to 1621, when Puritans, who had just enjoyed a bountiful harvest, showed their gratitude to the Native Americans for their help by hosting a feast to give thanks. It eventually became a national holiday in 1863 when President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed the last Thursday of November as a national day of thanksgiving. Later, President Franklin D. Roosevelt clarified that Thanksgiving should always be celebrated on the fourth Thursday of the month, never on the occasional fifth Thursday, to encourage earlier holiday shopping.

The Thanksgiving feast almost always includes some of the foods served at the first feast: roast turkey, cranberry sauce, corn, and pumpkin.

Here are some fun facts about Thanksgiving:

    • The preliminary estimate of turkeys raised in the United States in 2009 is 250 million.
    • The forecast for U.S. cranberry production in 2009 is 709 million pounds.
    • Benjamin Franklin thought the wild turkey was so American it should have been chosen as our national symbol rather than the eagle.
    • It is common for U.S. astronauts who spend Thanksgiving in space to celebrate with a rehydrated turkey dinner.
    • There are three places in the United States named after the holiday's traditional main course. Turkey, TX; Turkey Creek, LA; and Turkey, NC. There also are nine townships around the country named Turkey-- three in Kansas alone.
    • There are eight places and townships in the United States that are named Cranberry or some spelling variation of the red, acidic berry (e.g., Cranbury, NJ).
    • The National Thanksgiving Turkey Presentation is a ceremony that has taken place at the White House since 1947. Every year two turkeys are selected and given to the President for his Thanksgiving dinner. However, since 1989 the turkeys have received Presidential pardons, sparing their lives

Ms.Marilyn/Buffy.....What an ideal Thanksgiving.  I think in several years time it will be interesting to hear your now 9 yr. old reminisce about Thanksgiving 2009, when she made "Worms In Dirt" in the good crystal.  Hope you have a camera to record a wonderful day spent with loved ones.

Glad to hear all seems well in S. Elgin too and Tom is on the mend.

I think I was basically too old pretty much for Family Affair -- not sure what I watched in those days.  Every time I try to think back all I come up with is That Girl and Starsky & Hutch.  Not even sure those were much in the same time period.  Sigh !!!  I'm sure I had a memory once --googling might help ????

Wow ??  Surprised anyone would want duck.  They are so greasy.  Guess you would have a nice, moist, flavorful, greasy duck to eat.  Oh well ?? If I ever do, I'd probably brine something smaller too.

Black Friday....dh will be going into work very early.  Will be there he says by 3 a.m.  Appliance dept. is giving out 5 tickets for a sale on high efficiency washer and dryers.  What it amts. too monetarily is buy washer, get dryer for free.  He has to stand in line like anyone else so his boss says.  I thought...heck, for the savings might as well give it a try.  From years past I think a fair amt. of people may show up.  Dh thinks not.  Well, he may just end up being an hour early for work.  He has to clock in right about 4 a.m.

I will be making a Pumpkin Dump Cake to take to Mary's house.

Donna, do hope you see your Dr. and can get some relief for what is going on with you.  Though I have been fortunate, I do think so much is possible when cells are disturbed ( as in killed ) by chemo and have to come back.  Doesn't it take years for some of them - don't remember for sure, but sure dovetails with the book I am reading which has the premise that all illness and manifestations of illness starts at cellular level so often times....even when we feel well, we may have something that is going to show up....just had to reach the actual point where it is diagnosable at however it manifests enough to be given a name by the Dr.  Anyway.....hopefully, there is something that can be done to alleviate it for you.

I will be checking in but do want to say to Bj and each and everyone of you that I am deeply thankful for this thread and all of you.  My life is very rich and full and I'm sure tomorrow will early on be spent in contemplation for the colors and hues my life now has since finding this thread and all of you.

    See you all later.

    Hugs, Jackie

p.s.  Also, Friday morning I'm sure I'll be keeping all the dishtowels well away from the stove.  Oh yes.

Just wanted to pop on while I'm avoiding the cleaning lady and trying to stay out of her way.  Usually I'm bowling when she is here so it works out well but there was no bowling today so the cat and I have been hiding out and I've been writing questions.  I'm off in a few minutes to the library for more resources and to scan the fiction section for a good read.

It's dark and dreary here today.  Jackie, I need your sunshine!

Donna, I'm glad you're checking out your neck before the holiday hits.  Let us know what you find out!

Wendy, you're all decorated already?  How I need you to come help organize me......of course you'd probably have to stay for a month!  LOL  There is a mother-in-laws quarters above my garage, a complete apartment that I used for the Questions Galore office.  I also stored all those things from my school-teaching years that I just couldn't part with when I retired.  When I sold the office, I just let things stand as they were.  I added boxes of things from my mom when she passed away....her china, crystal, etc.  I finally began tackling it this week.  Since it's so overpowering to try to do it all day long, WendyTY suggested that I work just a half hour each day.  Actually, I've worked a bit longer than that and have carried out multiple boxes and garbage bags to the trash pile and STILL have made only a slight dent in the kitchen area.  Now...what to do with the things that I really do need to keep or want to save??????  At this rate, I might get it done by late summer!   LOL

I want to wish you all a very happy Thanksgiving...no matter where or how you are celebrating.  Hugs to all of you!  Enjoy the special day.  You are all on my list of things and people to be thankful for!

Happy Thanksgiving to all my sisters,

DH & I will celebrate with 2 friends from IA,  Cooing for 4 seems impossible to decide what NOT to make.  Hopefully some folks will stop over for dessert and cards in the pm.

Little did we know one year ago that my dh & I would both be diagnosed with and battle cancer in the first half of 2009.  We are so thankful that we are NED and live life every day to the fullest. We cherish our families and friends every single day.

Met with my oncologist, John Migas, yesterday for my quarterly check-in.  Marker #'s were 8..YEAH!!!  He isn't ready to turn me loose but has pushed visits to every 4 months.  I have decided to forego nipple reconstruction in favor of 3D tatooing.  My PS is now in agreement and is referring me to the local permanent makeup specialist at Fox & Hounds.  December 11.  I am SO EXCITED to get it done with his blessing.  2009 will end much better than it began for us.

Buffy, hang in there.  You and your dh have also had your share of touble in 2009.  You will feel much better once those drains are out and you can shower.  Take it really easy even though you feel better.  Pizza and pumpkin pie what could be better.

Blessings to each of you this and every day.

Went to the DR and thankful in got me in TODAY!!!Sounds like it is a allergic reaction of sorts and affected my salivary gland. I am feeling yuky and face is itchy. I need to understand that this is all a process of healing and even a face cream can disturb me!!!

IS there a after book to suggest in reading for recovering from Chemo??Seems like the aftermath, is like a big dark hole and you have to get to know this new body that is tired and worn out and yet you still try to act as if?!!

With all that is occurng.. the grateful heart is there and wish all a very happy and healthy Thanksgivng!!!! Be well and know we are all very blessed this holiday season.

Went to to the doctor but he wants to leave them in another WEEK! Yell  Because he doesn't like the amounts I'm still getting 30cc on the right and 40cc on the left so it's another week of drain tube 'heaven'.  lol  The left tube is really starting to hurt whenever I move my arm so I had my husband tape it in place so it wouldn't move around so much.  So far so good and I'm praying it stays that way.

Pumpkin Dump Cake does sound sooo good!!   Might just have to google it and make that instead of a pie!

I wish all of my fellow sisters a wonderful and happy Thanksgiving tomorrow!

Well, sorry Buffy.  That would have been so good to get the drains out.  Jackie is right about getting  the picture of your daughter's creation.  That is very cool.

Rita, the house will be so CLEAN and nice for that dinner for two.  Tell Dave that we met a couple who are going fly-fishing over Thanksgiving (Colorado). My dentist today then told me that she went to Belize and they went baracuda fishing!  Now when I hear fishing I think of Dave!  I would like to  fish one day.  I am up to my neck with turkey and the fixings and fishing sounds very nice.

Wendy, so glad DH fell in sand and not hard ground and that he is okay.  Too bad the sand wasn't in Florida.

Buddy, you ask if anyone has joint pains with arimidex.  My answer right now would be with a question, "Is the earth round and not flat"  I have pains here there and everywhere, but I forget to take the vitamins Wendy is just about to suggest to you.  Yes, arimidex causes pain.  My BS brought that on my last visit before I even complained.  That little pill may keep us cancer-free, however, and so I take it everyday.

I too am grateful to each and every one of you.  Cancer got us together, but devotion and respect for each other keeps us together.  Happy Thanksgiving!

    Good Morning - GOBBLE, GOBBLE!

    IT'S SNOWING! Yuck!

BUT - Last night...I received a phone call from the police officer who came to my rescue after I was rear-ended by a hit and run drunk.

THEY CAUGHT HER! YEAH! I am so relieved that she is OFF THE ROAD and heading to jail! Lots to give thanks for.

As we enjoy the warmth of family and friends - please keep in mind and give thanks to the men and women who patrol our streets and protect our country on land and sea. They all have a special place in my heart - today and everyday.

If you're out and about today...please have a safe trip!

From my house to yours - Happy Thanksgiving!

Morning!  Yep...a little snow on the grass!

Laura...so glad she was caught!  Good!

Brenda...congrats on your almost 3 years and I am happy to see that as my Her2+ sister, you too are still doing well!  Yay for Herceptin!

Buffy....I am so sorry you didn't get your drains out but at the same time I am glad!  You were still draining quite a bit and you sure do not want that stuff to stay behind!  The taping should help and the week will be up soon!  Enjoy the pizza!  Actually....sounds very  good!

Buddy...yep, Susan is right!  Try 500 mg Magnesium daily...my onc now puts all his AI girls on this as well as the calcium/vitD3 - it makes a world of difference to me as I was at a point 3 months into arimidex that I could only make it half-way down the stairs every morning before sitting down and crying from the pain and most of the time I am not a cry-baby.  I still hobble around for about 5-10 min each morning but then everything loosens up and I feel so much better.  Try it for a week or two and see if it might help - don't take any more than the 500mg as it does have a bit of a laxative effect - 500 seems to be about the right amount not to cause any problems in that "area"!

Well....things to do, more coffee to drink...hope you all have a wonderful Thankssgiving with those you love, no matter what you do or what you eat - it's the people around you that matter.  Always did....just took me a little cancer to truly realize that....that I had it all and never really appreciated it until now.  Life is precious so look around that table today and whether it's just the two of you, or you are eating pizza off paper plates, or eating brined turkey (that turned out a bit strange) or eating turkey soup that someone put out a burning dishtowel in - who cares!  You are here and you are loved.  Nothing better than that to be thankful for....

(Gee...wonder where all that came from? LOL)

Thanksgiving is the holiday of peace, the celebration of work and the simple life... a true folk-festival that speaks the poetry of the turn of the seasons, the beauty of seedtime and harvest, the ripe product of the year - and the deep, deep connection of all these things with God.

Budder - Magnesium is a good thing. If you notice a slight bit of drowsiness, take it before bedtime. That works well for me. But that's not the case for everyone. Have you had your Vit D levels checked?

    LOST MY LAST POST....grrrrrrr~~~

Try this again...Budders..   DO  take the magnesium as it is hughky recommended. make sure it is the Natural Magnesium. Also have you Vit d levels done as Laura said.Mine were low and had been on the suppllememt.I have  alot of leg pain and never had this prior to chemo. It is so frustrating as all the yoga and excercise i do, still there. Joint pain is one thing i am not happy with!!!! try the Mag.. and of course you take Calcium.

ELF>..Yes we need to arrange a time to meet. Now you and Budders have children and need to see what time  of day or weekend works etc. And who else would be in this area to join. Goin to see Blindside this weekend with DH and cannot wait to see that!!!!Sorry!! What ideas of where to meet is needed here.. so input from all can get started!!!

Laura.. Such a warm and welcoming front porch and entrance you have. Shows you haqve a warm and loving heart. Bet it is the same inside!!!Thanks iif you locate a book. I am finally coming out of my trauma part of the jounrey and have finally have been feeling some peace and acceptance. Goin on 6 mos and it is a process for sure!!!

Marilyn...Do hang in there wirth the drain part. KNOW how you are feeeling. Had 4 drains and one last one took what i thought forever to be pulled out. I slept on a recliner for two weeks as in a bed was impossible to sleep with. When myDH had to do the daily adjustments of the new girls, the right side was torturous for me as the pain was sooo burning. IT is all a process and it will be ok once they are out.

Hope all had a warm and cozy Thanksgiving!!! No BLACK Friday for me!!! Goin to help a gal at church decorate for a town outing to  be coming thru the  church as  a stop. Grateful for all of you and wish you all a great weekend and restful Friday!!!!

    Hugs,

Live life fully while you're here. Experience everything. Take care of yourself and your friends. Have fun, be crazy, be weird. Go out and screw up! Good Morning Girls!

Hope your Thanksgiving Day was nice. Now I am looking forward to Christmas. I am once again going to volunteer at a shelter. It is so rewarding. Since we don't have kids,Christmas day is no big deal for dh and I - so I will be working at a shelter on Christmas morning.

Donna - I haven't forgotten about a book for you...I sent a message to my friend asking for a title.

    --------------------------------------------------------

Am having lunch with a gal pal today who's in from WI. I am staying away FROM EVERY RETAIL establishment...don't want to get trampled to death - bc was bad enough! lol

Have a nice day. Oh yeah...I want to share one more photo. This is my niece Sydney and her little AriAnna:

Be careful on the roads today...be alert for frantic shoppers - driving around and talking on cell phones! lol

Laura, what a great picture of Mom and baby.    I think that would end up as a large one on a wall somewhere.  Sage advice for those venturing out today.  How great to volunteer to work on X-mas morning.  That is true holiday spirit coming through.

Had the usual great Thanksgiving at Mary's.  I ate just enough to be pleasantly full without getting the so stuffed I don't breathe well sensations.  I have the turkey bones and will make some turkey soup later today or tomorrow.  Busy today catching up with some odds and ends here and some things I need to catch up for Maggie too.  One day won't matter though.

No black Friday shopping for me, but dh as he had to work -- and left for work about 2:30 a.m. this morning, may have snagged a ticket for something, but I won't know until he gets home from work tonight.

Donna....wish things were going better for you.  It does take time -- I still struggle now and then with some foot neuropathy when I am tired.  Have learned ( ok now and then I feel tinges of mild resentment ) to accept it pretty much as a not so bad price for being alive.  I do think I am fortunate though to have very little that does TRULY bother me.  At least I have hair.  Saw my cousin Jeanie yesterday --- she and I had cancer about the same time -- hers though was lung cancer  --  and she still has no hair.  Due I suppose to different chemo and  rads regimen.  I feel so for her, but she just keeps on going even though I know she finds it troublesome.

Well, need to start my day solidly and see where it takes me.  Hope you all had a most wonderful time with good friends and family yesterday.  Stay safe and well.

    Hi gals!

I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving!  I'm like you, Connie.  I love turkey and dressing and our little turkey turned out just fine.  In fact, the day was much nicer than I had anticipated.

Jackie, I already had used a few of your Thanksgiving facts for questions!  I'm always on the look-out for good question material!

Laura, I love the two pictures you posted!  With your artistic talent, I'm sure your house is decorated fabulously!

Tanya, so glad to hear that you had a good check-up.  My tumor marker was NEVER as low as an 8.  That is fantastic.  I tend to stay around the upper teens or lower twenties.  This next year will be a much better year for you.

Susan, I'll tell Dave about the fishing when he gets home.  He'll enjoy hearing about it.  He's crazy about anything that involves fishing.  He doesn't get to fish as much now that he's doing his present job and I know he misses it.

Well.....I'm off to work another half hour or hour in the office above the garage.  I just keep working away at it a little at a time.  Then I need to put away the fall decorations so the Christmas ones can come out this weekend.  I think it might be warm enough here for a walk when that is done if I bundle up well.

    Hugs to all of you.
