I am nine years out from stage 4 ductal with a + brca1

    bilat mastec and oophrectomy

    35 years old

I am scheduled to see my onc next week but his

nurse said the only thing he has ordered is labs.....

should i be getting other test prior to seeing him for a one year f/u

when i saw him in december 08 i was still seeing him every 6 months and he told me i didn't have to see him for a year this time

previously he would order labs and a ct of chest abd pelvis

and now he isn't is this normal for a onc to do this once you move to a one year check up

and if so can't I just do this with my yearly with my pcp

my insurance has a pretty high co-pay and if I am just seeing him for labs

then i would rather just see my pcp

I think many onc's don't do extra tests or scans without prior symptoms or pain.

I know my own does'nt but will investigate if I have pain for a few weeks.

Well done on nine years too, thats fantastic!

My onc didn't do scans or extra test either.  She did blood work once a year, but since my primary was doing them she didn't.

so what's the point of even going back to the onco if the pcp can follow you

If you're nine years out then surely you know what tests are done and why? If you don't want to attend f/u appointments, then that's your decision-I'm just a bit confused as to why you're asking this question when you must have had many years of f/u appointments?

It sounds more usual-at least with how we do things here. Scan are only used when/if there are any potential problems.Good luck!
