Fucoidan

Options

My mom is currently in stage iv breast cancer mest and it has spread to her lymph nodes, bone and lungs.  She heard about some type of seaweed vitamin supplement called Fucoidan and is seriously considering trying it.  She watches a Japanese channel and saw an ad for it through a company in California, but it is awfully expensive.  Cost is $330 bottle for 120 capsules, and they suggested she take 4-5 pills day.  Just wondering if anyone else has tried this type of alternative therapy and their experience with it.  I know the website she mentions refers to it under brand name Umi No Shizuku.  Other websites sell stuff like this but I don't know if all the ingredients are the same at the places that sell at cheaper price.  Says it contains mozuku extract fucoidan, mekabu extract fucoidan and agaricus mycelium extract powder & gelatine.

Any experiences you can pass on would be very helpful.  She has not purchased anything yet.

So sorry to hear about your mom. I have never heard of this extract. Has your mom seen a naturopath who can help to guide her through alternative or complementary treatments. She may want to consult with someone before she starts any therapy on her own.

No she hasn't seen a naturopath yet, but I am going to recommend she do that.  Still would like to hear from anyone that has tried Fucoidan or Umi No Shizuku.

    Thanks.

That supplement doesn't have enough iodine in it.  There are a bunch of "sea veggie" infomercials where the bottle the seaweed comes in costs more than the contents. They are way over-priced.

    Best to your mom.
