I have bone mets in my femur.   I just recently had to have surgery because the femur tore.   Now they are preparing to do surgery on the other side as a preventative measure.   Apparently you can live iwht cancer in the bones for a long time, but with pain.

I advise someone who is just finding out about their bones mets or even for you ladies with breast cancer to get their daily calcium (1000 mg) and Vitamin D (1000 iu -if not more) to keep the bones as healthy as possible.  Also, if you are diagnosed with bone mets your doctor will most likely start you on a bone builder medication.

    Hi Aqua,

Do you have pain in your femur? I wonder if breast cancer can only mets to femur because beside the femur, my bone all over the body is normal. I haven't get a day to have bone biospy yet. BTW, How do u found out you have mets to femur?

    Hi Vicki26

I actually have mets in my liver too.   Bones mets is a big concern for breast cancer patients who have metastatic cancer.  I am not sure how it got to the femur, but if I had to guess, it would be because there is a lot of activity near my liver and it went into the hips and then the femur.

I have lots of pain in my femurs.  I had radiation twice on thr right side in the last year and the surgery in September.   Now my left side is beginning to experience pain too.  I suppose I will start with radiation to get rid of some  of the cancer and then if I have to have surgery (if necessary).

Great news! I just got my path report from the bone biopsy today. There is no evidence of a neoplasmk or metastatic breast cancer. The bone just shows degenerative change. This is the best Thankgiving gift for me.

Vicki26 - this is the best news! It is always heartening to read when someone has had GREAT news and not the dreaded confirmation. I agree with the ladies who said how hard the fear is - I know after years of dealing with this that the fear is as hard to bear as the news - ever iota of good news is appreciated - thanks for sharing and have a great Thanksgiving :)
