Chemo Question...

I had my first chemo last Thursday. BEFORE getting my FISH results. Turns out my tumor is HER negative. So, today, my oncologist called me at 7:30 a.m. I was still in bed. We had a conversation but I don't remember it all. She said that my cocktail will change and then said something about the next treatment and "3 days" - NOT "in 3 days", but something that sounded like I'll do something for 3 days. Does that make any sense to any of you?! I will call her back tomorrow but I'm really having a hard time thinking about anything else right now (she works in another city on Tuesdays).
Any educated guesses would be appreciated ~

Sherri, I can't answer your question. I doubt anyone here can. The only way to find out what your onco said is to call her back. Maybe you could call the clinic where you're being treated and ask to speak to your onco's nurse tomorrow.
Our guess about what your onco might have told you on the phone this morning would be anything but educated. I'm sorry. You will learn the news in a day or two. For one thing, finding out that your tumor was not HER2+ is a good thing. Try to distract yourself and do something you enjoy in the meantime.

I called the dr. on her cell this a.m. She was wonderful about it and told me that she is treating me as if I were one of her family members. She said "do not worry about calling me with questions". Made me feel good.
My cocktail is being changed to cytoxen and taxotere when I go back in for 2nd treatment next Wednesday. I'll have to take an oral medication 3 days in advance of chemo.
Discussed steroids and she will give the minimum dose as I already have weight issues.
Thanks for responding, otter, just knowing that someone has read my thoughts makes it a little easier

Sherri, Taxotere & Cytoxan is the same chemo I had. The oral med you'll need to take 3 days in advance is probably dexamethasone (brand name Decadron), which is used to reduce the SE's from the Taxotere. Yes, dexamethasone is a steroid, but many of us didn't have any problems with it. My onco didn't have me taking it ahead of time -- she gave it to me as a premed (i.v.), a few minutes before the chemo drugs were infused. I had to take oral dexamethasone for 2 more days after each chemo treatment. But that schedule is kind of unusual -- most oncos give the dexamethasone ahead of time. Some women do find the SE's of dexamethasone troublesome, though, so be sure to call your onco if it gets to be a problem. If you haven't found it already, go over to the Chemotherapy forum and look for the thread called, "Anyone on Just Taxotere and Cytoxan?". You'll find lots of company there.
