    October Rad Ladies

    Yeah Yeah Yeah; Joni is done, ((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))) and I am done too,my last one on Friday the 13th. Now I plan to laze around and sleep, eat, sleep eat all weekend long.

    Congratulations to all finished getting their bazoomas zapped!

    I still have 9 more to go. My skin has been holding up just peachy.... up until yesterday. My incision was very close to my nipple, which was getting rougher and more tender with each zap. Yesterday took it over the edge and the skin has finally broken. Really glad to have 2 days off, but feeling very nervous about next week.

    It's a truly miserable day outside... gray, cold with non-stop rain since I woke up. Kinda matches my mood.

    Does anyone else have 6 days left (5 of those being the boosts) and have the weeping sores?  There is a white film over the sores..one under my arm pit and the other on my breast bone.  I am so nervous about going back in tomorrow, it isn't even funny!  I have to get herceptin on top of it too..I am so tired of all of it!

    Kimmer-I can only state what I have experienced and what I have been told by my staff. The peeling, blistering and soreness from this will be on going for a few weeks. As you doctor for something else. Most of us have been given Silverdine (SP) It helps with healing and has some pain relief. 

    I am feeling much better, thank you christct and linn56. Got outside this weekend as the weather was beautiful. I am so pale!!! I bleached off the front walk so wore some old white shorts and I couldn't tell the diff. from my skin and the dang shorts!  But it was great to get outside. (I saved a little lizard from dome too:)

    Yes, I too have one more treatment, and 5 boost to go. Skin under my arm has turned white and peeled and keeps on spreading. Also got a little infection there. Also under my saggy boob. Do your best to keep these areas dry and get yourself some meds. from your doc.  

    Hip Hip Hooray to Eph3_12!!!! Way to go girl. You heal up and keep in touch.

    Colette37 - 6 days left, 6 days left.... let this be your montra for the day. I'm so sorry your skin is breaking down... I just have a small break under my nipple and I'm scared shitless to get it zapped today... and your skin sounds way worse. Sending you lots of (((((((HUGS)))))))) and best thoughts for strong, healing skin.

    I have 9 left...they haven't told me of these 9 when they switch to to boosts.

    Are the boosts better or worse then the regulars zapping?

    Thanks everyone!  I keep trying to tell myself that, I don't know WHAT the techs are going to say today...didn't help matters that I had a touch of the flu over the weekend and I had a low grade fever...How in the hell can you take a warm shower when you are shivering from the fever and you have a major burn on your chest?  I don't get it at ALL!  I ended up taking percecet and waiting 2 hours for it to help with the fever before I did it!  I have to be thankful that I have that at my disposal!

    I will be done this Friday!  I was told today that I would be doing straight rads through the rest of this week, that they were not going to end me with 3 "boosts" as I had previously thought.

    Has anyone ever ended their rads treatments without the boosts?

    OMG Girls!!!!!!!  I have been out of the loop so long I couldn't possibly go back and read ALL of what I missed.  I'm happy to say I have 3 more radiation treatments and I'll be DONE DONE DONE!!!!!!!!  I was diagnosed May 11 and started a chocolate business in August....OMG I have been sooooo busy.  I'm sorry I haven't kept up with posts but am going to start reading them every morning.  Good to see all of you are making it through this journey!  I got my Port out today...YIPPEEEE!!!  I think I need to celebrate Thursday night when I'm all done.

    For those of you who aren't there yet.....keep on keepin on!  There is light at the end of the tunnel.

    Dear October Rad Ladies

    vtmom: regarding boosts, mine was directed at the tumor site only, so not the whole breast radiation anymore, it was even a different machine they used and it seemed like a short boost.

    Of course everyone is probably treated different., I did luck out and had no major skin breakdown although my skin is fair, (redhead with freckles) I am healing well, get little stabbing pains on and off but have read from others that is normal, the techs said the radiated breast "cooks" for about 2 weeks after last treatment.

    To all of you who have the weeping sores or lots of pain, I am so sorry, use the meds they give you and you will be back to normal soon. Some day soon you also can yell Yeah I am done with rads. It really is so great to be done with rads, I wake up each morning going Yeah, I DONT have to go to rads., let's celebrate.  It was a long haul, and I am putting on the aloe vera still, then at nite I put on the udderly smooth, lol, made for cows originally I read, sometimes I use pure Vitanim E oil, I was told I could use whatever made the skin feel good now that I am done with rads. I still wash gingerly, mostly just squeeze mild soapy water over the breast and let it run over it, then a fine soft spray from the shower head, and only pat dry, finish drying with a fan.

    I recently went back to taking showers after switching to warm baths during rads. The hot water never felt so good ! It's the little pleasures in life !!!!

    dsgirl - you're right about the boost. I asked my techs about it today, I start my boosts this Thursday. It is a different machine, different type of radiation and will be directed to the sight of my incision. The tech felt it would much easier on my poor, brave, broken nipple. So only 2 more regular zaps & then 6 boosts.

    Colette37 - how are you doing. Been thinking of you today and hoping you're doing OK.

    Alaina - only 4 more zaps! WOW. Did they tell you why - no boosts?

    PauldingMom - 1 more zap & then just your boosts.

    We're on the home stretch. Hang in there my pink ladies!

    VTMom ~ They said something about me only being a "chest wall" radiation.  I don't know.  I see the radiation oncologist tomorrow, so I will ask her then.  The way the tech explained it, it made no sense to me.

    vtmom...I have had better days..they did do the rad today so now I only have the boosts to do..but then the Dr. looked at the sores and said that I should have a day break.  I used the silverdene cream once, but then it was SO hard to get off..I took the skin away when I washed up...so then I started using the medihoney over the weekend...which at leasts made it easy to wash off.  I got chastized from the nurse today for doing it and told to only use what they gave me.  She also got on my case about the fact that my kids were the cause of the biggest sores.  I am a mother and things like that will happen because they are only 5 and 1 and don't understand what is happening...ticked me off for the fact that I have no reason to tell her that I am sorry for being a mother.

    The Dr. at least understood.  If they don't start again on Wed. I am going to tell them they will not do any more then because I am not going past Thanksgiving to finish the rads.  I am going to need time off to heal while my husband is still at home to help out with the kids.  I am exhausted with all of the drama!

    You poor girl Colette.  My rad onc had me soak a washrag with a solution of 1/2 hydrogen peroxide and 1/2 water and I would lay that washrag on the places where I was coming apart and then air dry.  I healed quite quickly using that remedy.

    Ya would think that drs & nurses would have enough experience to know how emotional and vulnerable someone going through radiation is - specially that someone who is having a physical problem to boot. I'm soooo sorry your having such a hard time Colette. Sending you big ((((hugs)))) and warm thoughts.

    SO sorry Colette, ya should have socked her in the boob!!! You don't really need to scrub the silverdine off, just use a tiny bit of mild soap on your hand, It will come off. I use a glycerin soap. Do not apply it 4 hours before treatment. It does work, but it takes some time. Don't give up, for the sake of your children if not for yourself. 

    White 929- do you have a web site for your chocolate business?? Would love to see all your delicious treats. Had some Chocolate wine a couple days back. OMG was it the best of both worlds.

    Colette - sorry you are having a hard time of it - I second the opinion of socking the nurse! Shees, you would think people in the medical profession would have some more empathy and understanding.

    I just broke out with an itchy rash under my radiated breast over the weekend, I went in for # 18 yesterday and the nurse said to try 1% hydrocortisone cream, she said if that didn't work they would give me a prescription - I see the dr. today for my weekly check and will ask him about it - anyone used anything to help with radiation rash.

    Pauldingmom - Where did you find chocolate wine, that sounds great!

    Tomorrow is my last regular treatment and then I head into 6 boost- and just in time. My poor nipple is all dried out, and underneigh it the skin has split and is slightly infected. I will only get 1 day of rest this weekend, cause I will get treatment on Sunday to be done before Thanksgiving.

    The nurses & doctor looked at it, and suggested I get some 'Domeboro'. It is this powder that you add to water, soak a soft cloth in and lay on the open sore for 15 min. Suppose to draw out the puss and dry it out. I did this, and then washed if off and layered on aloe.

    Hoping it doesn't get too much worse. The sore is kinda close to the incision, but the doctor couldn't tell if it would get zapped during the boost, until they set me up for the boost.

    Anyone have any other suggestions?

    I feel for both of you.  VTMOM: will send healing thoughts to you.  I'm so sorry about your soreness.  PaulingMom: thanks again for starting this thread.

    Boost #6 tomorrow - finishing up on Thursday.  Since my rads unit doesn't do anything for patients on their last day (last week, I gave a standing "O" to a nice lady with bone cancer - on her last day), I'm going to wear a Christmas bell around my neck for the day and will RING IT whenever I want to during the day.  My two new waiting room buds (prostate and lung cancer) plan to ring bells with me on Thursday.  If I ever write a book about this experience it will be called "Rads at Noon".

    I have not read many posts from you lately so I've been worried.

    I finished Monday.  Now I just want to hibernate.  All I seem to do is put Xclair on my boob.  It is better today--Wed.

    I have never been through an experience like this before and hope to never again.  I am so tired.
