Can a bone lesion be arthritis??

HI Everyone

I've recently had an MRI & CT scan. They both show a lesion. Its about 3 x 3 cm. Could this just be arthritis? I'm being referred back to the Oncologist, I guess he'll decide what to do next.  This not knowing is driving me CRAZY!!

Also, those of you with Adult children. Do you tell them when you have abnormal results, but nothing definate. I'm not sure whether I should worry them or not?

    try to breathe. Nothing is difinitive yet. We always go to the worse case scenario right?

    there is a thread under the section Not Diagnosed with Met But Worried...its titled Arthritis VS Bone Mets. Its a big thread but if you post your concerns there,,,,I think you will get a lot more help.

    I have an 19 year old and 21 year old.   When first diagnosed, I found this was the hardest thing I ever had to do to tell them.   I was very open about it and they asked questions etc.  With each checkup I do if there is further testing and things, I don't mention it.  So far things are good but I think if I knew something definate then I would tell them.  Just my opinion.

    My bone mets (cervical spine) were first picked up by a bone scan. My onc sent me for an MRI but it was not entirely conclusive because it turns out I have a lot of benign spinal degeneration--osteoarthritis, compressed discs, herniated discs, you name it. So it was not clear if the lesion they were seeing that they thought might be mets could have been part of that stuff.  It was not till I had a PET/CT scan that the mets diagnosis was definite.

    I had lesions that was picked up on my hips. They were picked up on a Pet Scan but not xray not MRI, Not Bone Scan.  Lesions can be caused by arthritis, infection, injury.  It was inconclusive so I had a decision of "wait see" or have a "bone biopsy".  I went to a specialist in another hospital and he said that everything that he can see tells him it is not cancer.  That was 2 years ago.  He was not a lover of the Pet Scan.  He said he sees many patients each week that the Pet Scan sends up red flags and it turns out to be arthritis.

    Monitor but don't panic.

    Sassie, my onc didn't want to do a PET scan either for the same reason as your onc.  But, I my bone scan and CT scan did find a suspicious area.  Instead of waiting three months for another CT scan or immediately have an MRI, I chose a biospy.
