My mom

Options

I stumbled on this site looking for information. My mom was diagnosed with bc 3 years ago. She had a modified radical and had 9 positive nodes removed. She opted out of chemo, but took some radiation. Eighteen months again, it reappeared in the lung (same side) and she took some chemo. She has been on Herceptin since. Now, after another 18 months, she has "multiple" mets to the brain and the doctor is doing whole brain radiation. Can anyone tell me what to expect from here? I don't know what the etiquette is on this site, and I don't want to offend anyone. Just want some answers and the doctor is not very forthcoming at this point. He did look totally demoralized and deflated when he gave us the news though. Mom's is really fragile right now, and already tired of the fight. She will though IF she has hope, but if not she is ready to enjoy what ever time she has left. Does anyone have a similar story to share, and the outcome?

Thank you.

I am at a lost as to what to say.  With nine positive nodes and no chemo...wow! However, even with chemo we can get it back.  I did a boat load of chemo, mastectomy, rads and Arimidex for 3 1/2 years.  I now have it on one spot of my spne.  I had 5 positive nodes.

Herceptin is one of the newer drugs for Her2+ gals.  However there's no guarantees.  I am very sorry.

Someone will come along to five you more answers.

please don't worry about offending anyone.  Lots of family members come on here.  It is very important that your mother receive some emotional support.  Depression can be part and parcel of cancer treatment, but it is at least something that can be treated.  Onw place to go for help is an oncology social worker, which most cancer centers have.  there are no right and wrong decisions, but she should get the emotional support she needs before making any.

There are long term survivors of every form of metastatic breast cancer.  there is no reason at all to give up hope.
