MRI/CT Scan Potential Mets???

Options

I just got the results of my CT and MRI of my Sacrum.  They both show a lesion approx 3 X 2cm. But there conclusion is that it is potential metatstasis.  Now what??? MY GP is sending me back to the Cancer Clinic. Anybody else have this in their report?? What type of tests will they do now to confirm or rule out mets? I am scared half to death!!!

I had a CT and bone scan.  CT scan said, suspicious for mets, and the bone scan said concerning for mets.  My onc was going to wait for three months and do the CT scan over because it was only in one spot.  I was okay with that until I got home and re-read my reports. I could have had an MRI, but to have a definitive answer  I decided to have a biopsy.  They did it on L1.  It was mets.

For me this was found by accident.  My onc ordered the CT scan looking for something else..I was complaining about my LE arm.  Then she threw in the bone scan.  I had no symptoms...no pain.  I still don't.  Right now I've only changed my Arimidex to Aromasin.

I can't calm your fears.  But, if it is mets it's better to start doing something.

I can give you a big {{{{{HUG}}}}}  Hang in there.

I had a PET scan and bone scan which confirmed a lesion about the same size as yours. Surgeon did a biopsy under ultrasound and it has been confirmed.  Waiting for treatment.

I am so sorry for your news, but they seemed to have caught it early. Did you have pain??? I am now waiting to have expander out so I can have a MRI to see whats going on. My bone scan showed some hot spots in the same area as you have. Mine radiates to the hips. I was asked if I wanted another scan but if I do it will be a PET/CT scan to make sure I have dotted all I's. So now the waiting begins.

I wish you the best of luck and know that you have caught it early which is good!

I'm sorry, I just had one suspicious area show on a bone scan so had an mri and am awaiting results.   I assume if this also is positive a bone biopsy will be next to determine hormone and her2 recepter's.

    Good luck!

    Dear Mugwa,

I´m sorry to hear you are going through this. I have bone mets to my cervical spine that were first picked up on a bone scan. The scan also showed two other areas of concern. I had MRIs that ruled out the 2 other areas but was not entirely conclusive about my c-spine. Because of the location my onc said a biopsy was very risky (could end up quadraplegic) so I had a PET/CT scan. PET scans show areas of high metabolic activity. The idea is that since tumors are actively reproducing themselves, they show up well on this test. Well, my c-spine lit up like a lightbulb and so it was that my mets were diagnosed.

Hope this helps. Hang in there!

Thanks everyone for your comments. Its seems as if a couple of us are in the same boat! Not a nice place to be. I had my bone scan back in May and it has taken this long to finally get some more testing done. The weird thing is my bone scan says the Right Side and MRI and CT scan say the left. My pain is on the Right Side.  From the comments from the radioligist, I think he thinks the bone scan is wrong.  He recommends more MR imaging and maybe another bone scan. I am curious to hear what my oncologist will suggest. I don't have my appt yet.

Have any of you had the ct/xray/mri's show something on one side of your body and have pain on the other? Can it radiate that far??? The lesion there picking up is on my sacral wing.

Thanks again everyone.....We'll all hang in there together!!!Foot in mouth

    Hi Again,

The results of my mri (pain in thoraic area, one hot spot on bone scan) came back inconclusive.

I'm now awaiting a date for a pet scan, I wish he had sent me for this first as the waiting is torture and I can relate to how you're feeling.

My pain radiates more to the left, but on the right at times and also shoots down my thigh:(

keeping good thoughts for both of us:)

    Hi Tricia

Your right this is torture!!! I feel so alone, I haven't said anything to my kids (who are all adults now). I don't want to worry them, especially if this turns out to be nothing. So I worry in silence.....I don't even tell my friends because I don't want them to worry either.  So at least on here, we can go crazy and worry together!!! I am keeping good thoughts for both us too!! Thank you for your response....You have no idea what it means to me!!! Right now the tears are just coming and coming................

    Mugwa,

We'll both handle it no matter what news we get!!!

Try not to be upset, I know it's hard though and I'm owrried too.

I told my adult daughter's, I wanted them to be aware of the risk rather than give them sudden bad news.  I like to be prepared and think they 're like that too.  They're very supportive, our kids are stronger than we think and you should'nt worry alone.

When will you have results?   I'm hoping they arrange my pet for next week to get it over with.

At this stage I'm  sick of worrying and just want to know.  I also buried my beautiful Maine Coon cat last weekend who was hit by a car. He got me through all this the first time:(

    Had better months....

    Hi Tricia

I just read the wonderful news!!! I'm so happy for you, what a relief!!!  Your worrying is over and you can relax and look forward to a wonderful Christmas!!

I don't have my appointment with the Oncologist until Dec 9th, so I will have to wait until then.  I'm hoping I get the same news as you!!! I went for blood work a couple of days ago and he was testing for all kinds of things, so he'll have the results when I see him on the 9th. Wish me luck

    Hi Mugwa,

Thank you so much but how awful this is dragging on for you. Maybe you could try calling to see if the results are in sooner?  or get a quicker appt.

You'll be in my thoughts, I was totally convinced I'd get bad news especially when they called back so fast so remember...good news does happen:)

Please keep us posted and try to put it out of your mind as much as possible.

    Hi Everyone

I was able to pick up the results of my blood work the other day. My protein levels are just above normal. My calcium is low and my ca15-3 is up 6 points to 28. I know that is still low.  And according to our lab, 28 is the cutoff and 28 is flagged as high. So now, I'm even more worried. I see my oncologist(who I haven't seen in over 4 years) on Wednesday morning.  I don't know, this blood workd. combined with the results of my scans, to me its not looking too good at this point...........
