Meredith, your scarves look wonderful. I really like wearing the scarves, I have some that are already tied like yours and some that I tie. I get lots of complements and I think they look elegant. I got some big ear rings to wear with them and I feel very comfortable in them. I think the sites that sell to cancer patients get them out in a hurry.

Hi All,
Did any of you have itchy little red bumps (kind of looks like pimples) on your head as your hair was falling out? My hair started falling out a week ago (which hurt a little by the way), I still have some stubble left but now have these little itchy red bumps all over that are driving me bonkers. Maybe it's from the hats/scarves I've been wearing... Anyways just curious if any of you have experienced it and if so, how long did it last and what did you do to make it feel better?
Thanks~ Holly
-
Yes, Holly, I was just going to ask about that. I have little red bumps. Not so itchy, but bothersome if touched. I had my daughter look at them . . . they are little ingrown hairs that pop like pimples! Gross, I know. I am now encouraging her to be a dermatologist. I think I got mine because I was a little exuberant with the razor when I shaved my head. Wash your head with a salicylic acid cleanser (like Neutrogena) and it should start clearing. I use the exfoliating one to clear out the ingrowns. Downside is that it is rubbing off my henna tattoo. Better that than head pimples any day!!
And good morning to all! No real plans for this, the last weekend before tx#3. Maybe dinner tonight. Definitely Costco at some point to stock up on chemo supplies.
Side note - if you haven't watched that show "Glee" yet, you should! Watched for the first time last night (I downloaded it on my appleTV). It is so cute and funny. I forgot all about bc for awhile, and it really takes a lot for that to happen!
Thinking about you all and wishing the best. Mary, Jaclyn, Jean - I hope you are feeling better. BB - Welcome! Let's get some fun in this weekend!
Laura
-
Hopbird - it's good to know someone else has tons of allergies like me.
My husband likes to joke that I am only allergic to 4 things - vegetable, mineral, animal and man made.
Onty- I think I handle the allergic reaction so well because I know my body. I have been a severe asthmatic with allergies since I was a child so it's a bit of "been there done that". I get frustrated, but I remind myself that being surrounded by nurses really is the best place to have an allergic reaction.
Hollycan- I have some of those bumps as well, but mine seem to be more of a heat rash kind of thing than acne like AZdiva. I think it's from the warmth and rubbing of the scaves. I just put a little aloe very on it and wash my stubble with my face wash.
Welcome BBSoulfull2 hopefully you will find this a place where you can relax and let out your feelings about BC and the ups and downs that come with it. We're all ears!
1L - I totally agree that big earrings help make the scarves work. It certainly makes me feel more stylish. Also, I hope your bulldog gets better soon. I would hate to have to live 4 weeks without my kitty snuggles and I'm sure you feel the same way about your puppy.
JoJo - you have such a good attitude. I can almost hear you when I read your posts. It's like you are so excited that there is a rush to get the words out. I love how you look at the bright side.
I, too, have reached the side effect days and feel like I am 95 because all of my joints hurt. Maybe I'll just sit in front of the computer. My house doesn't really have to be cleaned today, right? (always looking for an excuse to ignore housework)
Have a great day ladies!
-
SnuziQ, have you looked into cleaningforareason.org? I signed up for the service, and got a call from the cleaning service yesterday. They are coming next Wednesday, and I'm SO excited! Who ever thought I could be too tired to vacuum and mop? But it doesn't take much these days to wear me out.
Laura, my daughter watched Glee this week and said it was really funny, so maybe I'll catch it next week. Anything that can distract you from BC is a good thing in my book!
JoJo, Let's hope that your se's are minimal this time around.
Holly, I've used my facial scrub on my head, on the advice of the hairdresser. I'm still trying to get rid of the stubble - there are balding patches, but still lots of stubble left.
Meredith, I agree, the franceluxe scarf is my favorite so far. VERY pretty. I got a new scarf this week at Marshall's, they had some really pretty silk ones for $15. I love that color on you!
Good luck and good wishes to everyone else - I'm thinking good thoughts for EVERYONE here!
Peace to all....
-
Dear SnuziQ,
I am glad you can laugh about your allergies.
I LOVE the bit about being allergic to just 4 things...
Dear TXStarDust,
Thanks for reminding us of cleaningforareason. I had registered with them but never sent them the doctor's letter. Will ask DH to take care of it :-)
Lots of love to all,

Hi girls,
I hope that everyone is enjoying their Saturday! It is a glorious day on the sw coast of FL today. We are finally getting a bit cooler weather and the temps have dropped into the high 70's with nights in the 60's. The air is less humid and I can finally wear scarves comfortably as it is not too hot.
The good news - my blood counts were adequate enough to allow my FINAL ddAC on Friday!!!! I am done with those bad boys! My husband was so cute, he is trying to help me gain weight so he got me a layer cake decorated with "Congratulations! Goodbye AC, Hello Taxol!" Of course, I am not a sweet lover so he is mainly the beneficiary, but it really did bring a smile to my face.
As for my lump in the right breast...yep it is still very much there. My onc and bc are coordinating what will be the best time to have the biopsy. My surgeon actually wants an excisional biopsy and that will require anesthesia and an incision so my blood counts will have to be at their best. We will figure it out next week and in the meantime I will try to remove it from my bald little head and rest well after my chemo yesterday. Neulasta shot at 8am tomorrow and then hopefully another sunny day to enjoy.
Thankfully the se's from Friday's AC are not too bad. No migraine this time at all so I assume the tegretol is working. (It always had in the past been good for seizures so it produces no additional se's that I can recall.) I do have the accumulated fatigue, however, as the worst se; not to forget dry eyes, itchy eyelids, a sore stubble head and nausea. But hey, we are fighting the nasty little cancer cells with big guns so I guess that some battlefield injuries are to be expected as collateral damage.
Thank you so much for all of your positive thoughts and your prayers. I can feel the warmth and understanding that you all have extended and I send it right back at ya.
love and peace,
Jaclyn

LADIES
Ive just had my NEULASTA shot should i be taking anything to stop SEs ????
-
Jaclyn - Your pic looks great!!
Heading out for dinner with the kiddos. My "last" Saturday night before chemo! I feel like I should do something adult fun, but I think I had enough of that last weekend!
After my huge breakfast this morning (there are 2 Village Inns very close to my house), some ice cream, and some grapes (had to throw a little healthy in there), my daughter and I watched the rest of the Glee episodes. So cute and they even brought a feel-good, happy tear to my eye. If I wasn't firmly entrenched in chemopause, I would think I was getting pre-period, hormone emotional. But you gotta love a quiet day spent on the couch with cuddly daughter and little dog. My son is too cool at 14 to sit all day with his Mom and Sister so he will probably watch them later!! He did admit he thought the show was good.
Yes, lazy day is good! Hope you all have a restful night and a peaceful day tomorrow!

Hello everyone. I am happy to say I am much more my old self. I am still run down but feel a lot better. This morning I even painted one wall in my livingroom! It was something I have had the paint to do for a month soooo did it. I am not going back to work until after the Thanksgiving Holiday (chemo is this Wed Nov 18) so I have lots of time to do the three other walls!!
My hair is falling out like crazy, really thin and lots of bald spots. For some reason it doesn't make me sad anymore. I think I am going to buzz it Sunday. I went with DH to do a little food shopping and wore my wig. It looks nice. I also got my free francelux scarf but haven't worn it out yet.
Hope everyone has a quiet Saturday night. Thanks again for your concern when I was so sick.

Dear Jo,
I take Tylenol for managing Neulasta's main side effects - bone pain and elevated body temp. Some say claritin works for them. Try them and see what works for you. I usually wait until the pain/temp hits me before taking anything. -
ONTY
Thanks for that ill wait and see ,i think Tylenol is the equivalent to panadole here , and guess what has just happened to me , my bloody back tooth has chipped in half , ill have to go to the dentist Monday and see if he can do something about it , i know that its not good to have dental work done while on chemo , so well see what he can do ,oh shi,t ah oh well just have to swim with the current ah .
Jo Jo
-
Hi Jo,
Yes Panadol is same as Tylenol. I hope your dentist is able to give you some relief right-away.
-
thanks for your support the other day - it was lovely
I ussually just try and get n wih it but i think too many things were gong on that dya.
Well the good news is that I can change one frowny face to one smiley face (or wht about a green smiley face whch turns gradually to its yellow colour aftr a few days.
So 2 down and 6 to go, though i realise that change regime afer four.
warm wishes and smiles to you all, we are all warrior princesses with wimpy, wobbly moments

Hello Ladies!
Jaclyn it was good to hear from you and read that you are coping with this new hurdle in your own way.
1L & Meredith - I haven't tried the scarves but you make it look/sound so elegant. It's cold here right now and very rainy so I'm not sure if the beautiful silk scarves would work for me. I'm getting by with my wigs and the little chenille beanie hats that my Mother-in-Law has knit for me.
Jo - I take clariton before my neupogen injections and tylenol as well as needed for bone pain. I'm not sure how it works with the neulasta but my bone pain doesn't start until almost the end of the injections (I'm doing 7 injections - days 3-10).
Jean, Laura & Holly - it's nice to read that I'm not the only pimply head around. I think they are ingrown hairs too and eventually will go away.
I had another unexpected but quick trip to hospital this morning. These PICC line dressings are giving me grief! Not sure if it's the tagaderm dressings or the stuff they rub on to prevent a reaction to the dressing but something is causing me terrible inflammation and blisters along the edge (top and bottom) and this morning I noticed several blisters & inflamation near the insertion site. Either way I could not stand the itching (even after taking a Benadryl) so I popped over to the hospital to have the IV nurse change the dressing to something else. As a precaution she only used saline solution to clean the area and I noticed immediate relief as soon as it dried. The nurse also used a mesh plastic film against my skin before applying the bandage type dressings. Tonight just the blistered areas are giving me a bit of trouble (trying hard not to scratch) but the new dressings are not causing any reaction at all. Hopefully this will work and I'll be able to keep my line in for the duration of my treatments.
I'm being super vigilant about my PICC line - now that I've got it in I don't want anything to happen to it! It sure does make the infusion go so much better and faster!
Well it's almost 3 am here and all the laundry is folded so I better get myself to bed and try to sleep.
Have a good day everyone!
Marie

Hi to everyone
Hope your weekend is going well. I am feeling good. Had my pre chemo blood work done on Friday. WBC was high. I was anemic. I had my second acupuncture session, so I don't know if I can attribute my feeling good to that or not, but I had a lot of energy on Saturday and felt great. Went out shopping for some clothes, had friends over and went out Sat. night for a couple of hours. It is going to be a beautiful sunny day around 70 degrees here in the DC area and I plan on enjoying it. Next chemo is Thursday, so I want to enjoy the feel good days as much as I can. My two best friends from childhood are coming in to be with me for chemo and to hang out for a couple of days. They came after my mastectomy and really lifted my spirits. MY francelux scarf arrived yesterday. It is beautiful. What a lovely company. They send a card and recieving the scarf was so nice.
Jo Hope your teeth are ok. Dental work is tough enough without chemo to worry about. I took tylenol for a few days when I had lower back pain from the Neulasta shot. I didn't have any pain at first. I felt pain 5 days later. Nothing too horrible.
Marie Could the tape being giving you a reaction? I had a terrible rash after my lumpectomy because of the tape that was used. I was allergic. That was the toughest part of healing from that surgery. After my mastectomy, they used different tape and I didn't get a rash.
Jaclyn Hang in there. Great news about your blood count. Keep up your spirits. You have a great attitude and a great husband.
-
Marie, like lainieo, I have developed an allergic reaction to the tape. I had the same symptoms as you, blisters along the edge of the tape and ITCHY. The nurse when I was in the hospital started using something called "opsite", it's a different kind of tape, and it worked great without the allergic reaction.
Jo, I took Claritin the day of my Neulasta shot and two days following. It worked for those days, but several days later (after I stopped taking the Claritin), I experienced the pain in my hips and legs. I tool some leftover Vicodin that I had from my surgery, and it took care of the pain in about 30 minutes. I hope you are able to avoid that bone pain! And good luck at the dentist!
Jaclyn, how sweet of your husband to give you the encouragement! Good luck with the surgeons.
Today is Sunday, so we'll likely be watching football today. That's ok with me, gives me a good excuse to veg out on the couch. I can't wait until I get some energy - this tired/lazy stuff is bothering me, I've never been so exhausted all the time.
Peace to all....
-
Good morning Ladies....
Lainieo, how do you like accupuncture? I am a big chicken and would pass out at the idea of doing that. Does it hurt. We have a pet hedgehog, so I think I would feel and look a lot like him.
Jojo, ouch on tth teeth thing. I hope your dentist is able to do something for you. I went to my dentist before treatment and made sure to get eveything cleaned, scrubbed and checked out. Just before I was diagnosed, I was checking out orthodontists to get braces...I had to put that on hold for a while. I just couldn't imagine dealing with chemo and braces pain...the image of vomiting with braces sent me over the edge.
gotta go..

...ZI'm back
Azdiva, I have been dying to watch that new Glee show...I hear it was good. Perhaps I watch it today.
Jaclyn, I love your new picture. You look so happy and cheerful. Pink is your color. I also have a super great husband as my support staff. It helps. He makes me laugh and keeps my sane.
Meredith..great picture as well. You look good in every thing you put on your head....speaking of head, what is the thing about Francelux....
Michele

Hope everyone is doing OK today. The rain clouds have lifted here and my mood has improved too. I think I was just hit with three things at once - hair started falling out on Friday, Friday/Saturday would have been my typical low days after chemo anyway and then I got the news that the onc wanted to extend my chemo sessions. Now I've given myself a good talking to and realize there is no reason I should be feeling so sorry for myself. We all have the down days after the chemo and I'm lucky to only have two, most of you have already gone through the hair loss and come out smiling on the other side. And as for having my chemo changed from ACx4 to ACx4 plus Tx4, many of you are on the AC-T regimen and don't complain, you just get on with it.
Jo: I love the way you are able to encourage the rest of us when we are feeling down. I know you said you rarely used a computer before but you are taking to it like a duck to water. I took Tylenol (acetaminophen) and Claritin (loratidine) aftter my first Neulasta shot and I had very little pain. This time I didn't take the Claritin and had more aches and pains. It wasn't anything debilitating and Tylenol did help. Sorry to hear about the tooth chipping. I think you should check with your onc before having any dental work done.
Marie: I'm another one how had allergic reactions to tape. I had a port put in before my first chemo treatment and the area under the dressing became very inflamed. I also had blisters in the area around it. It's no longer sore but skin is still red. It sounds as though you are finally getting some relief but sorry to hear it took a trip to the hospital to sort it out.
Jean: glad to hear you are feeling better. The fact that you painted part of your livingroom makes me think I should do something like that instead of sitting on my butt.
Jaclyn: Great that you have the AC behind you. Will be thinking of you as you face the biopsy on the other breast.
Laura: what is Glee?
Meredith: the scarf looks lovely on you. I e-mailed franceluxe for a scarf. It was hard to decide on a pattern.
Michele or anyone else ... franceluxe have a program called Good Wishes where "If you are a woman or girl experiencing a loss or thinning of hair as a result of illness or treatment, we'll send you a scarf in the pattern and color of your choosing, on us!" Just browse their site, choose a scarf and e-mail them with your request.
About the pimply heads, would it be ingrown hairs causing this. At the LGFB class, they told us it wasn't a good idea to shave our heads when hair started to fall, but rather to just crop it. The woman at the wig shop said the same. She said there was a danger of nicking the scalp and also of hairs becoming trapped. I don't have the guts to shave my head anyway. I used of the those Wahls clippers to cut my hair pretty short. (ok strike the word pretty, it just looks nasty!). I got my wig on Thursday but I'm not sure I like it. The color is good and very similar to my own but the style is like something from the 70s. But it will have to do as I can't afford to buy another one.
Welcome bbsoulful2. Since you started your treatment in November, you might also want to check out the thread November 2009-Starting Chemo.
Juanelle, Onty, Hopbird, Michele, Shelby and everyone else ... hope you are all having a good day.

Michelle Acupuncture does not hurt. Most of the needles that are put in I do not even feel. There are a couple where you feel a slight pinch. I do think it is helping me. I had such irregularity issues that were extremely uncomfortable. My energy is also better.I am definitely feeling better, my cough is bettter too. The Dr I went to is wonderful. He talked to me for a long time before doing acupnucture. He got the total picture and told me that through the acupuncture he was trying to get balance back into my system to fight the poisens that are circulating through me. If you do go for acupuncture make sure it is someone who is reputable. Also check your insurance. Some have healthy reward programs where you can 25% off of services. I called a few doctors and spoke to them before going and asked if they have experience with Cancer patients.
-
Mary, maybe you can take your wig to someone who will trim it up for you and make it look less 70s? I think people do that a lot.
I also had allergic reaction to the bandage. Now that they know that and use the hypoallergenic one, life is good.
I got my Franceluxe scarf Friday as well. It is lovely, and the little personalized note card hand signed by all of those lovely people was so special. I enjoy the scarf thing if I can use it as a fashion accessory. I had a satin-y scarf with fall leaves on it that I've been wearing. Turns my khakis and black t-shirt into quite the fall statement!
Hope some of you are getting the gorgeous weather we've had for the past few days. I go in tomorrow to get the details on my tests and start my new drug. Someone commented that they thought they could feel their tumor shrinking....my nurses say that is definitely something that happens. They asked me about it, but my tumor wasn't one I could feel before we started. It is nice to get some feedback mid-chemo, but I think the only reason I get to do that is because this is a study and they need to measure one drug and then the other. Tomorrow's drug is Navelbine, which hasn't been used much for early BC, but they've used with late BC for awhile. Apparently it does really well with Herceptin, which I'm taking with it. It's supposed to be more easily tolerated, especially given weekly, but I guess I'm like those switching from A/C to Taxol, a little anxious. We knew what to expect before, hoping things actually DO go better as expected now. Anyhow, hope everyone's Sunday is a great one!
-
Dear Mary,
A wig stylist should help you fit, cut and style the wig to your liking. They charge between $15 and $80 depending upon whether the wig was bought from them, extent of rework needed etc. You will need this wig for close to a year so a good fit and style is important. Wear it every day, try different styling options yourself and then go to the stylist. This way you will have a better idea of what you want it to look like.
-
Hi everybody -hope things are going ok - the week begins so lots in store for many of us. I still have a week 2 go til tx. My brother flew in from LA to support me - should be here in about an hour. Decided I'd wear the wig so he wouldn't freak (going out 2 eat) - but I'd really rather wear a hat- I'm protective of my family which is a little piece (I mean my family of origin) I didn't quite realize. This trip teaches alot. Have a good rest before the week starts.
oh Onty my husband agrees not to disclose at the job interview - huh. That seems like a tough decision to me.
Bewell- Valerie
-
Hi Ladies.
Well the SEs have kicked in from my first taxol tx. I am having bone and joint pain in my lower body and the tips of my fingers are tingling. Tried advil but that really didnt help so now I am taking 1/2 of a percocet and that is helping some. When I go to bed I will take a full dose so that I can go to sleep. Havent had a chance to read through all the posts but I am wishing everyone minimal SEs and a wonderful Sunday.
-
hollycan, I did not have any bumps, but my head was very tender when my hair started falling out.
snuziq, you do not have to clean the house, if it is like at my house, it will wait on you, because no one else will do it. Hope you get to feeling better.
jaclyn, glad you have finished one tx and ready for another. Hope you have mild SEs, I am also hoping that for myself.
laura, I am glad you got to spend a restful day and have some cuddle time with the kids. Good luck next week with the TX.
Onty, how are you doing? I hope you have had a really good weekend. My husband came down with a cold, so I am staying with a cousin until he is better. Didn't want to get any koodies from him. Especially since I just had tx on Friday.
jo jo,sorry to hear about your tooth, what a bummer. Hope you are doing well from you Tx and that the dentist can get that tooth fixed.
philippa, congrats on 2 down, I am also there, I am half through, so far so good. Hope you have mild SEs.
marie, you look beautiful in your wig, I am sure you would look beautiful in a scarf, but you might be right about the rain and cold. Hope you get it all worked out with your PICC line. I have a port and that is really easy.
lainieo, it is so good that you friends are coming to be with you. They will be such comfort.
Hello to everyone, Mary and Michele, if you miss a day getting on here it is hard to catch up.
Hope everyone had a good weekend.

I have heard that Vitamin B6 helps with the finger tingling (neuropathy). But you might want to check on that with your Onc.
