Crafts after BC is good for the soul

Hey spar, you are doing a great job with the snowflakes.  I told you it was pretty easy, didn't I??? LOL.   A friend wants 6 can covers for Christmas presents,so my fingers are busy.   Sorry about the tree one -- I never could get it to look "nice" either.   Every year I think I am going to make a Flag tree for Veteran's Day and it has come and gone again.  On my concrete slab/patio, I have 3 fake trees and maybe I will do some snowflakes to hang on them.  I have not done a Christmas tree in 6 years - spent 2 Christmas' in Vegas after my DH died.  Just not the same.   

I have one son - the reason I moved to this area - to be closer to him.  He and his wife are expecting my first grand baby in March.   We found out it is a girl on Monday.   Olivia is at the top of the list of names.   I will go to my son's in laws for, Thanksgiving.  

I was always the hostess for holidays and we often invited those who would be alone.  There is no way I could do that kind of entertaining these days.  My apartment is too small and the stove would have to be dusted off...   What are your plans for Thanksgiving?

There are probably spider webs in the broiler - bottom of the stove.  I have been here 3 years and never pulled out the broiler shelf.   The George Foreman works great for one person and mine is immersible - soak for a day or 2 or 3...    I live alone and am not Susie Home maker...   

I thought that was the only one who thought the George Foreman, a countertop oven, and a microwave were essential pieces of kitchen equipment! My husband started driving truck 4 yrs ago and I was by myself all week long until my son got out of the Navy last year and moved back home. Before my son came home if I didn't have anything planned for supper, I would pull out a couple of frozen chicken tenders, throw them on the grill to cook while I prepared the salad mix with cheese on my plate to make grilled chicken salads. Now that my son is home, I actually have to plan what I am going to fix for supper before I actually get home!  About 2 yrs ago, my loved George, got knocked off the cabinet and the cover shattered, I was lost until I got it replaced the next paycheck.

I found out this week that the ladies group at church are planning a craft bazaar for fall of 2011. The lady that has organized them in the past is giving us plenty of warning so we can all start crafting and looking for the next best thing to make. I am going to start working on my crocheted snowflakes now so I can have a good variety ready. I may gather some woodworking ideas from this thread and pass them on to the woodworkers in the church, if that is ok with everyone who has contributed to this thread.

Spar I have some of these snow flakes that someone sent on packages- I love them , do you have the directions? (referring to Nov 11th posting)

Spar, I sent the directions to Hollyann. I have started working with the thread again. I just found a good website on crocheting with crochet thread, what is used to make the lacy snowflakes. There were good tips on blocking and starching your flakes as well as a bit on how to work with the thread and small hooks. http://crochet.tangleweeds.com/ 

I may try to put some glitter on my next ones. The ladies of the church are having a small craft sale next week at the library and the president wants as many crafts as we can make between now and then. I have about 15 snowflakes ready and will be working feverishly on more.

I really wish I could get motivated to get back into crafting.  I just sit around like a bump on a log, so to speak.

Sheila - good for you.  And what do you mean didn't do anything.  You were helping people in need.  Mother Teresa spent her whole life doing just that, for goodness sake. You don't ever hear people say "that Mother Teresa sure had a clean house.   I bet those snowflakes are just precious.

Happy December 1st!  This morning I dug out my Christmas themed satin wall quilt for the office. I didn't quilt it by hand but plan on adding some detail snowflake quilting designs sometime in the blank spaces. I will be unveiling my newest wall quilt in March for Easter, I am calling it ' Easter Egg roll and a peep'. I started it in February before my dx in 2007 and am just getting it finished. I had the hand quilting done about a year ago but couldn't find the fabric I cut for my binding after my son moved back home. I finally bought more reproduction fabric for the binding and finished that UFO. My next project will be the vintage 1930's handerchief wall hanging (like I made for my grandmother's birthday) only bigger than I made for her.

Your pictures do not bore me, spar.   I used to "haunt" the craft fairs and shows.  Loved it when the indoor malls had craft tables set up.   Although I have cleared out a lot of things, I still like the home made things more than "store bought".   I am working on a scarf on the knifty knitter -  for one of my "senior" friends who has been a good support this past year.
