Please explain this decision by Susan Komen Foundation

    I do not know all the facts other than what I have read here but.... I find it hard to believe that anyone can be totally unaware of the tensions in the middle east. How can a group (of intelligent, educated people) have a conference in Egypt & be "surprised" that a group was barred from attending?

    I am really doubting the leadership of Komen these days (for this and many other reasons).

    Sorry once I found out the CEO of Komen makes over $450K per year, I started looking elsewhere.  Dont get me wrong the are raising tons of money, but IMHO that is a bit much.  Makes my head wonder into crazy places about what is really done with all the research money and what is being hidden.  I realize that is a little off topic, but I am chatty today.

    That is eye opening.  If the salary for this person is $450,000, then I imagine the extra perks and benefits bring it up another 25% or so.  That just doesn't seem reasonable for a charity.  I have a relative that heads a very large "charitable foundation" and I have gotten a close inside look at how they function.  They seem to have such a small benefit - to - dollar - raised - ratio.  It almost seems as though the disease has turned into a business model.  I hope that is not true of Komen, although this last bit of news makes me wonder.

    Very often these "non profit" organizations pay a lot in salaries but it is generally not made public. I would guess that other non profit CEOs make even more money than that.

    When I worked for the public broadcasting system I found that the CEO in past years was paid way better than the CEO of the commercial station!  I know because I worked at both places in human resources.  It wasn't here but in another city but when it became known, there was a big uproar as well there should have been.

    I think it is one thing if you happen to set up your company as a not for profit and you are not soliciting funds from the public and you want to provide huge salaries and cadillac-style benefits (worked for one of those too).  It is quite another when you are begging money for a cause and then not spending it on that cause.

    What really ticks me off is the big salaries and bonueses paid to men who drove the business into the ground and the government had to bail them out!  What are they being rewarded for?
