How can I get 2nd opinion radiology reading?

    Hello everyone:

    I recently underwent an MRI with contrast on left breast for spontaneous "water spots" I'd been noticing on my T shirts.  I also have some breast pains that happen once in a while.  No lumps felt.  My MRI came back clean.  Problem is, this radiologist doesn't make me feel warm and fuzzy.  He is the same one who read my mamogram last year giving it the OK, and then 8 months later I'm having a mastectomy of right breast and 2 positive nodes and undergoing chemo.  Does anyone know how to go about getting a second opinion on reading the MRI?

    I'm curious to see the answers you get.  My personal first step would be to call my insurance company and ask about it. 

    I have heard that one problem with one stop radiology departments is, when the quality of a scan is  bad, which sometimes happens,  no one on the "inside" will speak up about it. 

    I think you are wise to seek out second opinion.

    I would request a copy of all your records from radiology.  They can give you copies of the written reports, as well as put your MRI on a disc.

    I don't know how your insurance handles this, but you can certainly take your records and disc to another facility and ask the radiologist to review them.  After your first experience with this radiologist, I would recommend this.  Hopefully someone will post who knows a top notch radiologist in MI.

    Vavoom, make sure you have the benefit for a second opinion. Most insurors will approve this.

    I was a nurse casemanager for a nation wide insurance company and my best advice is to call your insuror and see if they offer casemanagement. Most are usually RNs who can direct you appropriately.
