Ovarian Mets

Options

 Hi

Im 45 yrs old and Dx August 08 with Left Breast cancer 2 tumours Grade 2 ER/PR +ve HER2 -ve. No nodes. Had Left mastectomy.

Treated with hormone therapy only

Have been on ovarian suppression therapy and AI as part of the SORT trial since Oct 08.

Had my ovaries removed as part of the SOFT trail last week, and they have both come back as positive for cancer 5-10% in each ovary.

I know I am extremely lucky, as if I had decided not to go on the trail, been ranomdised to the other 2 arms, opted to have the monthly ovarin suppression injections for 5 years instead of having them out, or not have had the ovarian suppression therapy for the the past 12 months , things may be a lot worse. Ovarian cancer is often caught late when symptoms occur, and with mine everything looked normal during the operation.

Am having staging CT scans next week to see if the sneaky thing has struck elsewhere, then see the oncologist.

Dont know what to expect next, and wonder if I may have the BRAC gene which will have huge impact on the female members of my family (I have no kids).

Anyone else out there with a similar story - no nodes on diagnosis but with mets 12 months on.

What treatment options am I to expect.

cheers

weha, are you sure it's mets?  Or, could it be a new cancer.  There was a gal on here some time back who had ovarian cancer.  However, it was not mets.  They found it early and she did very well.  And, I'm sure she is still doing well.  I think she left just because she needed a break from the "cancer scene."

Weha, I too am wondering if it's mets or new cancer.  I had ovarian cancer first, 7 years ago.  I was stage III and, obviously, am still here.  My doctor said I beat the odds.  It sure sounds to me like you've caught it early and that has to be good.

It totally sucks that you have cancer again, no question, but hopefully you will have a good outcome.  I know what it feels like to get cancer twice.  You think you've been through hell and back and now it's over, then BAM it strikes again.

    Good luck to you.
