Paulding Mom - Go for the cupcakes; the reaction will be worth it ! Some nipple suggestions in addition to hersheys kisses (or maybe mini kisses): chocolate non pareils, mini gumdrops, cinnamon sombreros, gummy raspberries, and strawberry haribos. The haribos are shaped perfectly but somewhat obscene, very erect. I used strawberry gummies with a mini gumdrop cut in half and inserted in the middle.

How exciting to be done!  I remember my daughter when she was little saying "Me Done Now!" very definitely when she was through with just about anything-food, potty, playing, napping, etc!  So Sakura, you can announce it to the world " ME DONE NOW!!!"  You too Little Red.  And I get to, next Friday.  I've never been so happy for a Friday the 13th to get here!

My skin under my boob is getting pretty weepy so they started me on my boosts today & tomorrow, then I have the weekend to recuperate!  Then my last 2 regular rads Mon & Tues and then the final 3 boosts, Wed-Fri.  Yesterday my rad onc told me to mix equal parts hydrogen peroxide & water, soak a washrag, lay on my back and soak the skin under my boob for a minute or so with the solution and then lay there and air dry-he said to try doing it a couple times a day over the time frame until Monday.

Good luck to all of us!!

Eph3_12 - You have the MOST clever radiation techs !!! Giving you boosts instead of regular treatments makes absolute sense but I've never heard of any of the facilities doing that. (Of course, I'm far from an expert, just reading on this Board.) Most just get extra days off, which, of course, is a mixed blessing since it prolongs things.  What brilliant creative problem solving !

It was actually the partner of my rad onc who I saw yesterday instead of my regular doc.  The techs acted like it was no big deal and even suggested if on Monday the weeping isn't better checking with the doc about doing a couple more of the boosts on Monday & Tuesday say, then 2 regulars with a final boost on Friday!

Like Eph3 they switched to my boost today.  I've had 23 of 28 regular treatments and need 7 boosts for a total of 35 treatments.  I'm really red although the skin so far is holding up.  Anyway, apparently it is not unusual for them to switch to the boost if the skin becomes an issue.  Gives it some relief to the rest of the breast while they just treat the scar.  So it will be interesting to see how the skin holds up for the final five treatments after the 7 boosts.  Yea for Aloe and Vitamin E cream.....must be doing a good job since my skin is ok....just extremely red and sore.  Patti

Thank you ladies.  Yes, it IS a good feeling to be done with the rads.

I brought in goodies for my rad techs and nurses to say thanks for all their care and then went next door to the infusion center to have my port flushed - had to bring those girls something good too!!

I'm so glad to be done with chemo, and so glad rads is finished, but I will miss seeing all the wonderful women and men who have been there to care for me - day after day, week after week, month after month - and help me through the treatments, the SEs, the emotional pain...they have made me laugh, hugged me when I cried, and help me keep the faith!

Just want to give a shout out to all the nurses, doctors, techs, and staff at our medical centers that do such good work taking care of us!!  I am so very grateful for those that put so much heart and soul into their work!

PauldingMom you are nearly there - Yeah!!  (ME DONE NOW!!)

Suzanne3131:  It is easy to forget...I have to remind myself too...but they're words to for us all to LIVE by...

    Be good to you -

vtmom - Thanks for the tip to visualize the rads killing the cancer while they are doing it. That may help.  I also have changed my attitude big time  and do things differently now. I am not always in the fast lane and know when I need to take time for me and slow down. Who cares if my house is a mess, it will eventually get done. I would much rather talk to you guys and read here right now to continue to get encouragemnt.

MTG - Thanks for letting me know that things improve very fast after radiation is done. I can see the finish line with 4 weeks left. I will make it through.

Collette37 - Still hope you are doing okay with your treatments. How many do you have left?

Sakura73 - Way to go, that must be a great feeling to be done with your treatments!

PauldingMom - I also hope you are doing okay with your treatments and hope you are nearing the end.

Congrats to you and all those who are done with the roasting.  19 down 14 to go for me--but the end is in sight.  Then I have the aromatase to look forward to.  That and 6 more months of Herceptin  Darn.  I wish visualizing this whole thing as completely over would make it so...

Blondie...I still have 11 to go.

I have started peeling.. : ( I also have a small blister that I didn't know what it was until after I rubbed it!  So I am now having to deal with that issue too..I also am not feeling the greatest since I just realized what stage that I actually am in.  I am freaked out about it and so scared.  I am only 37 fricken years old and I have a 9, 5 and ONE year old!  What the f8ck?  I am so tired of it all it isn't even funny..and to make matters worse, no one in my family knows what I am going through because they were able to catch their cancers early and all of their kids were older and able to take care of themselves.  One thing that I am so tired of is when someone says "But they were able to catch it early"  (Yes, I have had people say that to me)  I am exhausted and I can't deal with this cr*p any more.

    Blondie:

I am so sorry you are feeling scared.  This is scary business.  All I can say is you are not alone in your concerns.  We are hear for you.  Did you do chemo, or did they say only rads?

Ask your rad onc for some Auquafor mixed with Lidocane.  It will allow you to keep your skin moisturized, but it won't sting when you apply it and it will ever so slightly numb the areas that are sore.

    Be good to you -

Little Red - Yes I did 4 of AC and then 12 weeks of Taxol/herceptin and will still have herceptin every 3 weeks until next July. My rad onc said only corn starch until it is uncomfortable/showing red and burning and then they will give me cream/ointment, otherwise nothing but cornstarch until then. Since I was starting to turn pink end of last week I am thinking I will be asking for the ointment/cream soon. At this point the skin is just feeling tight.

It sounds like your doctors are on top of the situation and being aggressive, so you are in good hands.  It is scary, but remember you are not sitting still on this!  All these treatments are killing off the beast.  I know it's hard and you're tired, but you are doing it!

Vtmom - I think about the rads zapping those cancer cells too. Initially I was really against having to have rads, but thinking about the microscopic cells that could still be there, well the rads won out. I just found out last week that I am er/pr negative, so for me rads is the only thing I can do. I am halfway through, 2 1/2 weeks to go and I am done, so I am focused on that. I definitely try to work less, and spend more time with family and friends now, this was a big wakeup call.

congratulations to little red and sakura!!!! All the rest of you, just hang in there and your day will come too.

I have been battling the swine flu all this week.  Then on Friday, I thought I felt okay to take a drive and drove to my home town to put flowers on the graves of my mom, dad and brother to thank them for watching over me and it was a beautiful day.  I got there late at night, got a hotel room and spent the night hacking and coughing up a lung.  Didn't sleep the whole night.  So I got up at 5, drove around town until the sun came up, put the flowers on the graves and was home by 3 (this was a 7 hour drive both ways).  I took a bath because when I cough I pee (TMI -- too old) so I smelled like a nursing home. I went to bed and again I have a fever.  Almost went to the hospital but got OJ and overloaded on vitamins and tylenol.

Today I have no fever but am as weak as a kitten.  I am afraid that I may actually have that fatigue they talk about and if it is, you guys watch out.  It is a killer.  I walk around the house for 10 minutes and have to sleep for 2 hours.  I am okay just being still but any activity like brushing my hair or brushing my teeth or getting my dogs water is a burden.  Does anyone else out there have any fatigue like this????

Besides this, I thought my boob would be better by now because I moisturize it to death during all this too.  It is hotter than ever and weeps!  I bet I could iron a shirt or fry an egg on it, it is that hot.  I did see the onc surgeon on Thursday during all this and all she said was, boy it that ever red.  That probably cost me $300.  Oh well, I'm still alive for now.

Let me know how you are battling your fatigue.  I HAVE to work.  I just don't know if the fatigue is from the swine flu or radiation.  I am so lucky.

Littlered yay for finishing! yes, it is late spring in Australia, and this week the weather has suddenly brightened and we are having a week of 30 degrees plus days. It does feel totally appropriate to be done with all treatments just as the flowers are out and the sun is shining.

brookside sorry to hear about your red hot boob! And as for the fatigue, I found mine improved a LOT after I started an iodine supplement.

    Sending happy  thoughts to everyone.

Brookside -  I know I sound like a broken record by now but please try mixing 2 & 1/4 cups cold water  (from the frig) and 1/4 cup Apple Cider Vinegar in a bowl (I suppose regular vinegar would do in a pintch) , dip a wash cloth in it, wring out and lay it over your breast. I will literally suck out the heat. Repeat as needed. (The wierd thing is the water will actually ger warm from the heat it draws out) This is an old folk remedy for sunburns and regualr burns. My BS saw me 2 days after radiation finished and was so impressed, he asked for my research and wants to do a trial.

I hope you feel better soon.

What a ride we are on.  In some ways the rads are much tougher from an emotional point of view than the chemo was.  I get very tired with other folks' encouragement that I should have a positive attitude!  So long as I can climb out of bed and get to treatment I consider that a positive attitude.  I am bound and determined to save my own live.  On the other hand, if I want to whine and b*tch and moan, I'm gonna.  When folks tell you it's a good thing you caught it early, or you're gonna be ok.  It's their way of insulating themselves from the reality that this could be them.  And at the rate we are going with BC, they will be next...Hang in there any way you can.  Those who crawl across the finish line are still winners.  Right?
