HI all
Sounds like everyone who had their first TX went really well seee not that scary ah. Next time i go for my #2 next Friday I'm going to make a date loaf and share it with everyone else in those big chairs and make it a nice time for everyone . For the first 5 days after my TX i felt like i was kinda drunk very foggy in the head a little sick in my tummy and EXTREMELY tired, by the 6th day it all lifted and slowly back to normal I'm expecting it to be the same next time and ill be able to handle it a lot better its all the unknown that is so scarey .
keep on doing well ladies
LOVE YAH LOTS JOANNE

Hey hey, I was wondering when the "bombshell" might fall since today, 1-day post TX, I;m feelin' pretty good. I'll have to watch out for that 3rd or 4th day hit that some of you, guys, are having.
More importantly, I'm trying to decide when the best time is to have my hubby give me the Neupogen shot: evening or morning? When do you take the tylenol, before, after, both? Desperately want to keep the SE at bay as much as possible. Can't find any info on Clariton and Neupogen on the internet, just on this site. Does it work? And if so, when to take it, too? Chem-Nurse just said get injection at night, take two Tylenol and go to bed. Not sure that is good advice? Help?!

Hi ladies-
I too just had my first TCH today. It went well. Very thirsty/peeing a lot and eating watermelon. Can't really complain yet....Brenda-can you include me on these updates?
Thanks

Welcome newbie, sorry you had to join but your in a good place, lots of caring sisters that will be more than welcome to give advice any time!!! You can whine, scream, cry or laugh whenever you feel the need. Glad to see your side effects are minimal so far. Hope they continue to be the same thru your journey. You have already earned your first
smiley!! CONGRATS jkwick74
Can you give me a little more info for your update, how many (TCH), do you have it every week, or every other or every three? The watermelon, good idea for a source of liquid! I hadn't thought of that. I tried honey dew, but it kinda tasted YUCKY to me, watermelon should be better, I shall try!
Welcome again to the "Warrior Whimps" and proud of our fight, we will win!!!!!

Shel/Shel we will be with you in spirit today !!
Portergirl... Hope you are feeling ok and getting ready for tomorrow ~
TOGETHER WE CAN DO this girls ~
Have a good day. Hope everyone is managing and feeling as good as can be expected. And if not come here and complain we will listen.
My hairdresser made a housecall and cut my hair into a boy cut so when it falls out I won't be so devastated (at that point I'll buzz it off immediately) I needed to feel in control. But damn' do I look ugly ~

Alicia, I did the same thing and got my hair cut real short. I figured the transition to bald would be easier with a little "rest stop" on the way.
Got my PET scan and port put in yesterday, little sore today, hopefully on target to start chemo next week.
-
Melinda... yes that was my hair theory as well. I wanted to be in control. And thought it would be to traumatic to just go from my nice hair to a crew. So yes this is the transitional or as you say "rest stop".
Get some rest today, I am sure yesterday was a stressful day for you. Try not to think about next week too much. I drove myself crazy. The anticipation and fear of the unknown was torture. The 1st chemo wasn't that bad.....
Hang in there ~

Good morning everyone. I am definitely whimp this morning. Yesterday afternoon started feeling really yuck, couldn't walk 100 steps. More of the same this morning. Zofran and Ativan holding off the urps. Took some MofM a little while ago hoping to move things along. It just feels like a really bad case of stomach flu. No major pain from the Neulasta other than randon aches. Definitely in "poor baby" mode and wishing my grandma was still around. This just made me realize how fortunate I have been. I have rarely been sick my adult life, certainly not to this degree. I can remember catching the flu only twice within the last 30 years. Nothing like saving up for the big one, hmmm? ;-> I hope all of you are doing great today! Alicia, glad you are doing great.
I did the preemptive short hair cut, too. This way, a short wig will not be so shocking, if I decide to go the wig route. I am hoping for a fairly smooth head because I dislike wearing hats if I don't have to.
Time to wander around to get the muscles moving.
(((((((((((bcsisters))))))))))))Sue

((((Sue)))) I am so sorry you are not feeling good today. Move around a bit and then try to sleep. Do you have the compazine, I find that one helps when my stomach starts to feel yucky. I have real dull headache today and am constipated. Laying in my bed with the laptop. Sue I hope you feel better.

Thanks Brenda. I am having 6 (now 5) treatments of TCH every 3 weeks for then maybe radiation for 6 weeks....Herceptin for a full year to two. Took an Ambein CR last night and still was wide awake - tired today but not working so now that the kids are in school, I can nap. I too cut my long hair shorter and will go shorter in the next week or two.
Take care ladies!!
-
JustmeAlicia and Suein FL, so sorry to hear you guys are feeling down today but so Proud of you for fighting the good fight! Thinking of you both today and hoping you feel better.
Seems many of us did the proactive thing and cut our hair early. I had long hair for years, this is my first time in ten going short and I kind of like it! So that is a good thing. I had my port put in yesterday and I don't mind saying I earned another WIMP Warrior status; cried and cried on the table in recovery and then had to take two Darvocet. Back at work today mighty sore but powering through it. Chemo TCH tomorrow at 11 AM. I'm ready!! Baking my banana bread tonight and gonna make some new friends in the AM
Joanne, your experience was especially helpful -- I can make it five bad days if I know it's going to lift by day six or seven. Thanks for to everyone for lifting my spirits today. We are so going to do this and come out better on the other side -- promise!!!!!
I 'borrowed' by brothers treadmill as I don't see myself going to the gym during hte next four months. I plan on walking at least ten minutes a day on bad days, and 45 on the good ones. Everything I've read says exercise is the key to beating off the fatigue, irony!
Much love and strength to all you sister warriors. I can't tell you the comfort I am getting from reading your stories.
-
jkwick74,
- I did your update. Just a suggestion with your long hair, you know there is a place you can send you hair to have a piece done. They sew your hair into a comfortable piece that you wear with a hat, any hat you choose. It only needs to be 10". I had mine cut my 1st day of chemo TX, earlier in the morning. I sent it off and I got a call yesterday (1 week later) that they where shipping it to me. So, within a smidge over a week, I get my own hair back. I'm over the trauma as well of losing my hair. I appreciate the fact I TOOK MY HAIR, NOT the CANCER!!!!! It gave me a little bit of what felt like control over this crap!!! Another lady on the site had ordered one also, just not with her own hair, but it was human hair, she said it was sooooo comfortable!!!! Just another option to consider. Glad you are feeling OK other than tire. Get some peaceful rest and take care. If you do want to know more about the "Hip-Hat-Hair" thing let me know!

Hey hey, day 3 for me, post tx day. started feeling bad last night, kinda like getting the flu. was a bummer since I had had a great day until then. took tylenol and that helped. better today but shaky. took the emend and decadron as prescribed and then followed 1 1/2 later with Ativan to stop the shakes. am already dreading the neupogen shot tonight, but, oh well.
As for hair, I had long hair in Aug. Was diagnosed Sept 1st. Cut my hair pretty short the next week, pre-lumpectomy, to prepare for the possibility of chemo, though not knowing at that time if I would have to have it or not. Shorter hair was definitely a good move since it made up-keep easier after that surgery and then after the re-excision (to take out more tissue), and again after the mediport implant. Big decision for today... I already have a wig ready to be fitted on a bald-head, so I am debating on going to the wig place, getting the buzz cut to just get it over with now instead of waiting for the clumps-in-the-hand. They'll shave my head, trim/style the wig, and I walk out with it on. I plan to go the "wear the wig outside the house, wraps/caps inside" route. Oh, and I also have bought "fringe hair," which is a strip of hair that looks like bangs and side tendrils for wearing with wraps and scarves. I've always had bangs was worried about having the no-bang look with the wraps. With my favorite over-sized earrings, I'll have to change my name to "Gypsy Nette.'' (my signature for this site, doronet, derives from Annette, but my nieces/nephews call me Nette.) Cool thing is that I'm always changing my hair styles anyway, so the wig won't be a shock to people who know me. They'll just think I've changed styles yet again, though the wig is a little longer than what I have now, but still a short do. Enough about hair, though couldn't we all talk about it forever, especially now that it such a major issue?! However, it's been nice to know what others are doing/have done with the hair issue. Has been very helpful to see what has worked for them.
Happy thoughts are with the today's TX women. Power to the WARRIOR WIMPS! doronet

doronet,
Please explain to me about the neupogen shots. You said you get like 32 right? How often? Why do you have these in addition to your chemos (AC) & (TAXOL). I was thinking (BUT, then again, when I had hair I was BLONDIE) anyways, I was thinking why are some getting these shots? I thought these where for when your WBC where low they had to give you these shots. Help me to understand. Sorry if I seem ignorant!!! Blame it on "Chemo-Brain" I can say I'm thankful I don't have to go through that. I'm already not happy with how many shots I've had since this whole nightmare on Chemo Street started.
Sorry to pester!! (((((HUGS)))))

portergirl,
I understand how you feel about the "Port" girl!!!! No pun intended. The PAIN of the PORT!!! I'm surprised you even went to work. When I had mine placed, I wish I had stayed overnight in the hospital. It was BAD. I thought a MACK Truck hit me smack dab a doo in the middle of my chest. The next morning I still hurt ! Had my DH call in sick for me, as I couldn't get out of the bed without assistance!!!! By noon I was better somewhat and went in. BUT, OMG don't want that type of pain too often. Oh yeah, I finally got my Onc's RN to call in the EMLA cream for me!!! Donn't want to get stuck again without it. Every pit of pain we can avoid we need to do so.Again it was a case of just INSISTING! I do realize the port for me is necessary because of the Adriamycin, but still I don't want any unnecessary pain.
Good Luck tomorrow!!!! Sure you will find some peace when it is over.~~~~~My heart is with you every second of the journey as with all the sisters! Make us"Warrior Whimps" proud!!
Banana Bread mmm'mmmmm good, I don't know what's wrong with me, all I want to do is EAT EAT EAT especially cakes and breads, and toast,
OH BOY or is it DOUGH boy I will look like when this rolly polly chemo muncher done
I just wonder if it's just me that stays hungry as all get out, like it's my last meal, can't wait for Thanksgiving, lots of leftovers just to eat, yum-yum, OMG going CRAZY
Sorry all, I just lost it there for a second

Hi, fellow Warriors! Thanks to all for the kind welcome...I really look forward to checking in and hearing how everyone is doing.
Well, today for me is day 14 post-chemo#1, and the hair is coming out right on schedule. Not in big clumps, but when I run my hand through my hair, I get 10-20 strands each time. It's gonna take a while for it all to fall out, though, since I have always had super-thick hair. In a way I'm relieved that it finally started to fall, because me scalp has been KILLING me (think allover bad sunburn), and it does seem to hurt less now.
Just for fun, DH and I were adding up how much I'll save over the next year in hair product, cuts, bikini waxes, etc....made me feel a little bit better! Gotta find SOMETHING to smile about!
Hugs and virgin martinis to all!

BRENDA-my hair was less than 10 in and now cut it is short....I also ordered a wig.
My little sis is prego with her second baby and I swear we have the same symptoms. The day she found out she was pregnant was the day I found out I had cancer. Her baby has the same due date as my daughter --- odd. She e-mailed me today about wanting cheese fries and I have not been able to get them off my mind --- so far day #2 is like being pregnant!!
Stay strong ladies!!
-
Joanne...you gotta wait. Most of us noticed hair departures somewhere between days 15 and 18.
Portergirl, glad you like your short cut. For me it was an introduction to my face without a lot of hair around it and was a bigger adjustment than no hair.
If you are handling port discomfort, the chemo is going to be fine. Just remember that most of us found it easier than expected......although I think we all had nightmarish images........
GOOD LUCK.......wish I lived closer to Piedmont, I'd head over to get some of that banana bread!
-
Hi. I just met with my oncologist today. My first chemo will be next Thursday, November 12th (one of my kids' birthday).
I'm going to go read what all you've written up to this point then hope to join you all for information & support over the next several months
Thanks!
-
Welcome to our group Sherri... sorry you had to join us. But you will find great support and caring here.
I am having a crappy day today. Day 4 post first treatment. Hating my big old face without my hair over it.... and having horrible stomach cramps. (STILL can't go to the bathroom) I have taken stuff to try to get things moving so to speak.
The headache is just brutal. Tylenol does nothing. I can't even watch tv it makes it worse. So I lay in my room with a candle on. I am up helping my son do homework and feel him dinner. Feeling resentment DH is at a dinner meeting for work, and my daughter is off to work. So here I am ~ This too shall pass.
Hugs to all my girls.... !!!

To my fellow Warrior Wimps, I have completed my first tx! So far so good. I had no troubles while getting the infusion and although I feel different than usual right now, it's not bad, no pain, no nausea. A little bit energetic in fact. This must be the steriods. I am hoping to get through a day of work tomorrow and then take it easy over the weekend. If I stay still I feel sleepy. But, yeah, one down!
menevermind, I hope the rest of your tx went well. Were you able to work today?
Thanks to all of you you wrote to encourage me this morning. It really meant a lot.
Shelley

Post tx 48hrs and 24hrs post shot feeling just blah and a headache that will not go away. I am having trouble with food too if I smell it being cooked then I dont want it. I cant afford to eat takeout every night so I guess its Ensure for me. Any food options going good for you sisters?
Kuddos to you who are going to work I whimped out on that and took a loa.
Hope everyone has a great night You all are in my prayers.
-
Portergirl Thoughts and prayers go out for you tomorrow its not that bad just the unknown.
Dornet My onc said the claritan helps because the shot is like when you have allergies and your immune system is in overdrive. So far 1 day out havent had the body and bone aches just a dull headache that wont go away.
-
Hello fellow Warrior Whimps!
I hope you all are doing well tonight. I was taking a hot bubble bath and each one of you was on my mind so naturally I said a little prayer for us all. I'm feeling really good now (have some stomach issues...possible ulcer) but I've been working and pretty much doing my normal routine. I am going to a Look Good Feel Better class tomorrow at lunch and I'm actually excited about that. I have really fine thin hair so I'm thinking about just shaving it this weekend so I don't have to even deal with the hair loss thing. I'd rather just get it over with. Now my eyebrows and eyelashes....not so much. Hopefully, I won't lose much there.
Just wanted to say "welcome" to Sherri! Sorry you have to join us but you will find a great support network here.
Shel - Glad you are doing well today. Congrats on completing your first tx!
Portergirl - Good luck tomorrow, my thoughts are with you!
