Got my test results!!!

I posted a "frustrated" post earlier.  My surgeon called me at home tonight @ 7:15!!!  I can't believe that.  I will sleep MUCH better than I have been AND I won't have to delay tomorrow's oncology appointment!!!

Here's what he told me:

My tumor is ER/PR+, which he says is favorable.  I also have P53 (no idea what that means but he says it is also favorable).  Finally, the tumor IS HER2/neu, neither good nor bad, just is.

Does anyone have ANYTHING you can tell me about the above?  I'm so new to all of this BC stuff and it's confusing :)  Especially, P53...

    By being ER, PR positive that means you will be able to be treated hormonally which in my book is good.  Some women don't like the AIs, but I responded very favorably to them with few SEs.  I have no idea what the P53 is.  Her2/neu means you have the gene which would allow them to use herceptin as a treatment....at least I think that is what it si.  I had the test a long time ago and was told I did not have Her2/neu gene and I think they did the test to see if I could take some drug  and have a chance of respond to it.  Sorr I could not be of more help.

    No idea what P53 means will have to google that one :) . I am also ER, PR + and HER++ .. or was rather now that I am cancer free. :)
    The ER, PR means they can treat you with either Tamoxifen (premenopausal) or something like Arimidex if you are postmenopausal. Yes to the herceptin.  Her+ cancers tend to be thought of as more aggressive but Herceptin is the miracle drug for this.  I had 6x or TCH which is Taxotere, Carboplatin and Herceptin and after 1 treatment my dr could not feel anything anymore in a physical exam, by treatment 3 it was not evident on an ultrasound anymore!

    What a great post!  I feel very positive about everything right now.

    I went to my appointment today.  The oncologist says that the HER2/neu was actually too close to trust result so my sample has been forwarded for a FISH test.  We'll know for sure about the positive nature (hopefully) of it next Tuesday.  My first chemo is scheduled for next Thursday.  So, either TCH or TC -

    3 months of chemo, a break for surgery (not sure if lumpectomy or mastectomy yet) then 3 more months of chemo, followed by 2 months of radiation...that's the plan.  So, fingers crossed, I should be finished with the bad stuff in10 months when you add time in for healing from surgery :)
