Oncotype dx should I get it done?

I am just curious as to how you got your Oncotype dx.  Did you ask your doctor to do this lab or did he do it automatically and give it to you with your path report?  My doctor hasn't mentioned this to me and on this site is the first place I've ever heard of it.  I have a hx of cancer myself other than the breast cancer I've just been dx with, so I'm not sure if this is something I need to follow up on or not.  Just wanted to get some thoughts on this.

Thanks

My oncologist recommended it when we were determining if I needed chemo to treat my cancer.  Luckily my score was low and in addition to the other factors of my tumor, chemo wasn't needed.  It will help you make an educated decision.

    Good luck!

I had to ask my onc about getting oncotype testing for both of my invasive tumors.  He would not have had the tests run without  pushing for the information.  I am glad I did because the scores I got (16 and 8)  allowed me to opt of chemo, which he was recommending.

Assuming you are node negative, you should ask your onc about the test if he has not brought it up.

If my memory serves me correctly, mine only recommended it because I was a) er/pr + b) no positive nodes. My score came back a 49, so I'm glad I had it. Otherwise I would have opted out of chemo as well.

I got my surgicall path report today, and there is no oncotype dx listed, but since I'm HER2+ it's a moot point, I guess. I have to have chemo.

    I'd be curious though.
