Upstate NYer need help, no insurance

Options

Hi all,

Does anyone know who can help an up state NYer get a biopsy with no insurance?  Momzybaby has been told to wait 6 months to watch and see.  Some of us were told that and the results were not very good.  She has no insurance and we Americans unfortunately know what that means.

So any help will be great.  Lets help her get what she needs.

Much love Deb

Cherneski every hospital has a financial services number. I would suggest calling the local American Cancer Society.

Waiting is an option medically sometimes but not b/c of money - she needs to be aggressive!

    Good luck

    Deb,

I'm a downstate NY'er here, Long Island to be exact. Hopefully they have them thru out the state, but here on Long Island, they have a county hospital that will take you without any insurance. Not sure how you can find out if the whole state has them, but if she's not that far from Long Island, Momzybaby might want to check out the Nassau County/University Medical Center. I found a "general" phone number for them which is 516-572-6051. Hopefully this will work out for you and Momzybaby. Let her know that she's in my prayers.

    Hi Deb,

I was an Up stater many- many moons ago,  my DD just moved from there about 52 miles weast of Albany,  I know that they have PLANNED PARENTHOOD programs up there that assist with a ton of things,  my DD was going there for her last pregnancy and they assisted her with a mamo and US once I was DX, also many moons ago, Albany Med and Cooperstown used to have some assistance programs. Not sure if she is close to either.

    GOOD WISHES

Due to our fiscal crisis and criminal legislature, I don't know how long NYS's hodgepodge of public supported health insurance options will continue to be available, but as it stands today, there may be something available for Momzybaby. I have listed three possibilities. There are others, depending on her individual situation, ie are their children who also need coverage??

    Anyway, here is a start:

http://www.health.state.ny.us/nysdoh/bcctp/bcctp.htm for info on NYS Medicaid's Breast/cervical Cancer Treatment  Call The Cancer Services Program at 1-866-442-2262.Although it is a Medicaid funded program, the income eligibility levels are much higher and you are enrolled through a specially designated organization, not the local department of social services. Here is a url for the agencies by county. Momzybaby might have to go back to square one ie a mammogram to get covered by this program. Depending on Income, Momzybaby might be able to qualify for regular Medicaid, which would cover all needs, beyond breast cancer.

There is also Healthy New York, also available throughout the state. It is intended for working people who have no insurance and for small businesses. You apply through a participating HMO, info about the various options is available on the website.   http://www.ins.state.ny.us/website2/hny/english/hnyeci.htm  I believe,if you apply by the 20th of the month and are found eligible, your coverage is effective the first of the following month.
