Biafine
Started my second week Monday, the nurse told me she called in a prescription for Biafine emulsion cream. I'm to apply it 3 x a day. When I went to pick it up at the pharmacy, they told me the Biafine was not covered by my insurance (Aetna). I had to pay the $51.69 for the tube so I could get started, and have been calling everyone I can at Aetna to challenge it. It's on their exclusion list. Has anyone else run into this problem with Biafine? I'd be interested to know if other insurances are covering it.

I used biafine but the center I went to gave me samples. Try and ask for samples.

I have an HMO and it covered it except for a $10 co pay

Thanks, the nurse tells me every insurance except Aetna pays for it. They are going to give me some samples. I'm still going to file an appeal with them. It just doesn't seem right. Maybe I can change it for future patients.

Hi
I have Kaiser insurance and they refused to pay , I paid the full price , I used 2 tubes throughout my treatments. Mine was $71 a tube! Crazy , but I needed it .

It seems incredible to me, that they don't pay for it. I love that you're willing to try and change the system for the future of others
My center just gave it to me and keeps asking me if I need more. Please do ask for samples.

I actually was given Biafene by my rads doc - but interesting to note - Biafine contains parabens which are xenoestrogens - this means that when Biafene is rubbed into the skin, it acts like estrogen in the body - since I was ER+ I thought it would not be a great idea to rub more estrogenic cream on my boob. Instead I used three things that worked well - Aloe Vera, Castor Oil (I would rub on boob after treatment and put warm cloth on to absorb) and Calendula gel - I had no major burns and skin looks great - good luck!

Caremark will not pay for it either. They claim it's a surgical supply...My med health insurance would not cover it either...I'm going to file a complaint with the state ins. bd.

Hi, I was dx'd in jan 2005 with IDC stage 2, went through chemo and rads after lumpectomy. In the last 6 months-8 months or more I have had come and go left shoulder pain that sometimes responds to massage, accupuncture, NSAIDS, but not very well. I have had bone scans and MRI about a year ago that were good. I've been writing off this shoulder pain as muscle, cipro overuse, rotator cuff etc etc. It does not seem to get better with rest or get worse with heavy exercise or lifting. Sometimes it just goes away for a while and sometimes it comes back for no reason. The pain feels like burning all across my upper shoulder, middle of my shoulder blade, and one point under my arm near the shoulder blade. Now I feel a very tender area on the left front lowest rib area which may be a bruise. I'm starting to freak myself out, and I hope someone will tell me about what their pain feels like. I do have an appointment with my lorazepam oncologist in 2 weeks, and I'm sure that she will order a bone scan. I did have all over bone pain with neulasta, so I know what that feels like and this is not like that... This pain feels like it is in the muscle, but it does not get better much with massage. It goes away completely with percocet (which I took for a couple days for a foot injury), butbuy diazepam ibuprofen does not help it. The pain also completely went away when we went to Hawaii recently with the warmth.
