IBC after ILC - Mastectomy
Hi everyone~I've been away from the discussion board after mastectomy (12/07) and reconstruction 04/08. All this time, I've had my checkups with the oncologist and all has been clear. Well, today I noticed a mass of tissue on R breast (where LCIS was originally found and after surgery was found to be ILC). It looks like a welt about the size of a quarter...thick and pinkish in the center...while the edges are light/skin tone..but still a raised welt. Does this sound like something to be concerned about? I did have nipple reconstruction in Oct 08 and everything healed nicely. I know that I need to get it checked out, but just looking here to see if this is familiar to someone else. Thanks!!

I think it's best with a history of bc, to get things checked out just to be on the safe side. Praying it's nothing.

Thanks Ladies...I do have a different area this morning...(left breast) that is not red, but a raised welt...a bit bigger than a quarter. The other side went down yesterday, but I definitely will get this checked out. Hopefully, it is just allergy or something benign. I did think at first that it might be a bug bite too..but, it went away and there was no "bite" mark in the center etc...I'll keep ya posted on what develops and appreciate your responses! Thank you!

Hi..after reading a bit more, I haven't found any stories of anyone dx with IBC after total bilateral mastectomy and implants. Has anyone heard of this happening? I thought all breast tissue was gone? Have you heard of scar tissue becoming infected this long after surgery? I'm just letting my mind consider all the possibilities. Of course, I've been laid off of work and my insurance coverage ended yesterday!! (Isn't that the way it seems to happen?) I need to pick up Cobra and get this checked out...good thing that I have 60 days to elect Cobra and 45 days to make the payment...prayers are appreciated and hopefully this is nothing!!

I called my oncologist and they got me in yesterday...I did have to see another Dr. because my onc was out. She went ahead and had my blood drawn (since my next check up was scheduled for Dec anyway) and ordered an MRI that will be done in a couple of weeks. She didn't seem to think it was anything to be concerned about and also suggested I see the PS in case it's just something to do with the implants. (Not a relief to hear that either)... Is the MRI going to be able to tell if there are cancer cells in the skin area?? I guess my thinking is to do a biopsy anyway instead of MRI...
Here's hoping it's just irritation and nothing serious with the implant or worse. I'll keep ya posted on any results. Thanks for listening~Vicki
