My onc. is recommending me to join a study for Tykerb and I was just reading up on it a little bit. I knew about the side effects of diarrhea, rash, fatigue but I didn't know that Tykerb could cause liver damage.

Anyone that is on Tykerb... are you limited in what kind or how much pain medication you can take because of the Tykerb?

As always, thanks for any info you can offer!

Anita

I'm taking tykerb (1250mg) along with my herceptin and side effects haven't been too bad.  Nothing compared to TCH!!  I did have a problem with the diarrhea the first few weeks - I took immodium and that helped control it for me.  Now the problem seems to be better.  As for pain meds, the pharmacy that dispenses tykerb to you has a nurse on call and you can ask any questions like this to be sure.  I ran all my meds by this nurse and they were all safe, so it hasn't limited any of my pain meds.  I do have to be careful not to eat grapefruit.  Best of luck to you!!  lisa

Been on Tykerb (1250 mg/day) with Herceptin nearly a year. Very tolerable. The worst side effect was the Tykerb Trots and immodium really helps. My onc said nothing about interaction of pain killers. Actually, the oxycodone usually counteracts the "trots." Good Luck!
