Hi, Cheryl ~ First, good for you for arming yourself with everything that's available! I haven't been to a naturopathic doctor yet, but my 27-year old son recently found a really great one, and I'm anxious to meet with her soon.
I guess the one thing that I would question (although I am far from an expert) is taking Green Tea Extract or any antioxidant in high doses while you're still on chemo. My thinking is, can it possible protect cancer cells? I know some institutions go so far as telling women not to even use Vitamin C during chemo, which I tried (stopped my daily 500 mg. of C), and regretted b'cuz I got very sick. I do take Green Tea Extract now (well post chemo & rads), but not sure I would have used it while I was on chemo. And I've never heard of the other thing you mentioned -- astroy coden. What is it? Hi Cheryl,
I see a naturopath and went to him before I even started chemo! I too take green tea and did take it during chemo. Check with your onc though to be sure he/she believes it is ok. Mine did so I continued.
Be sure to use EVOO (extra virgin olive oil) and of course organic is best. Here is what my guy recommended. Not sure if this is right for you but you could ask if you were interested. Note: the tumor I had was TN. Supplements: IP6 (8 pills 3x / day); Lumbrokinese (3 pills 2 x / day); Immunokinoko (4 pills 3 x/ day); curcumin (raised dosage to 4 pills 4 x/day ever 2 hours); green tea extract 4 pills 2x/day; Vit D3 4000iu's per day. He tests my blood every 2 - 3 months and adjusts quantity/supplements accordingly. Also, the breast cancer diet; green drink - I drink Berry Greens by New Chapter.
A friend also suggested that white tea is even better than the green tea so I drink white tea on occasion too.
I am curious to know what astroy coden is too? Chrissie

Well my Onc (big surprise) nixed the Naturopaths medicine ...I was feeling really good yesterday ...now I am confused...The astoy coden (probably wrong spelling is to ward off colds like a nuturo Cold FXI I am assuming..the Naturopath i went to had his PHD. in botany so i think he knows his stuff. I will keep on with the olive oil.

Hi Cheryl
I went to a natural path right after I started chemo. I told him nothing why I was there and was totally amazed at what he knew about me just from the biofeedback. He knew my cancer, what side it was on, my GI issues, and emotional issues. I was started with a drink (can't remember the name of it now) full of vitamins, minerals, along with carbon and the like. I also took some homeopathic drops for energy, stomach issues. I also took Inkberry. He also recommended olive oil which I to this day put on the soles of my feet. He gave me a diet high in alkaline and low in acid to balance PH. This really helped with the stomach issues I had with chemo. Basically say no meats, ice cream, beer, after 3:00 PM. Lots of leafy greens, melons, citrus, almonds, berries. He suggested a handful of seeded red grapes and spinach or argula every day. Also, eating a slice of fresh pineapple before every meal helps with the acid. And, taking a couple teaspoons of organic apple cider vinegar every afternoon helps with stomach issues and energy.
I talked to my oncolgoist and fist she kind of poo poo'd it mostly because she said that she fears many get taking advantage of by naturalist. However, she had her pharmacist come look at most of what I take and she was fine with it all. My first radiologist/oncolgoist said no antioxidants because it interferes with radiation. I ended up going to the University of Michigan for radiation and the radiolgoist/onc there was totally find with the antioxidants. She said that is totally unproven that they protect cancer cells. I took alot of antioxidants all the way through chemo and radiation and to this day. By the way, I was NED (no evidence of disease) after three cycles of chemo and remain NED to this day 17 months later. Note, I am Stage IV with mets to liver and bones.
I am not recommended you go against your onc; however, sometimes I think you need to do what you feel is best for you.

Hi Jennifer,
I love NED - so happy for your to read that!! Has your naturalist modified your regimen since being done with chemo and NED? I went off the healthy wagon mid-July and am really have a difficult time getting back up. I keep trying to commit but then I the block of cheese in my fridge calls my name (I hear it, do you? - yes, that is a joke I am not really hearing voices from my fridge). I am planning to have my blood tests redone and then go back to my naturopath but am just curious what your guy is recommending. I always like to ask. I also drink New Chapter Berry Green green drink daily. very yummy and good, vegies!

I have gone back to my naturalpath a couple times since finishing chemo. He tells me he still sees cancer but it is on a cellular level so it will not be picked up by the pet scan. So, he still wants me to take InkBerry drops. which I did but have been out for some time now. Just no $$$ to go back to him but I really want to. He also helped me out last winter/spring. I was feeling bad ... couldn't describe why but my body felt off. I went to see him and he said I had too much yeast in my body. Yeast is a fuel for free radicals. He gave me some drops and within about a week, I felt normal again. He wants me to come for mini bio feedback scans every 4 months I am way over due but will try to get in before the end of the year. He could recommend a whole ton of things for me to take but he understands my financial issues and he really only gives me the most important. I like the homeopathic drops. They seem to even out my whole system ...emotionally too.
Yeah, my fridge calls to me all the time. See StageIV forum in a post called FAT FAT FAT. That is me. I am on a big time diet right now. I can't stand all this extra weight. My natural path told me to move all the time as much as you can. It is so imortant to stay in motion whenever possible. I am doing the Wii Gold's cardio workout. Just started last night and really like it. Hope I can stick with it.

Why does it seem like the cancer stays out of the soft tissue organs for a long while for some women? I heard of a 15yr survivor who insisted on staying on AI's. When she had progression it was only to her bones, it wasn't easy but finally when it got too unbearable she stopped all tx's.
One thing for certain is, I don't think we will ever be able to figure out why we got this disease and how long we will survive. But one thing for certain is that it is a rotten disease. Maybe, I'm wrong but I don't think it is comparable to other cancers. This is just my opinion but I think people feel that women have more control over fighting this disease, then other diseases and that is not the case at all. For instance, I saw an early stager put up the quote, "Early detection is the cure". Not as easily done as said. And there is also the sexuality component to this disease.
Best wishes to all of us.
