METS Question

If you have breast cancer then get ovarian cancer is that METS?  Is it only certain places that is considered METS? Sorry to sound so ignorant but I am kinda at a loss here.

Thanks Much Love Deb

If your ovary develops cancer...after surgery the tissue would be tested. The pathologists can tell if it is BC that has metastasised(breast cancer with mets to the ovary) or primary ovarian cancer.

Deb, I had an opposite situation...very early stage ovarian cancer 17 years ago...about the equivilent of DCIS. Ovary removed, clean margins...nothing else needed.

Sixteen years later, breast cancer. Now they may be related in some hormonal, genetic way, but they are not the same cancer, and the bc is not considered metastesis of the oc.

Nancy~ Can Ovarian cancer metastesis at all?

Mazy~  So if you are stage 4, then you get METs are you then considered stage 4?  Or is it only called METS not stage 4?

    chern,

My onc always biopsies new tumors to make sure what it is. When we found the tumor on my spine, she biopsied it to find out if it was breast cancer mets or a new primary cancer. Also to find out if it was ER positive as it was before etc. Hugs, Mazy

Cherneski, ovarian ca can metastasize. Ovarian ca is called "the silent killer" because early symptoms are vague so it's ususally not found until it's already spread.

Thank you all so much.  After I had sx, I got aKiss PET, no other cancer but 3 areas of concern.  Onc was gonna wait till I was done with rads to do more testing but I told her I cant wait I am a nut and need to know NOW!

So next monday I get an u/s on my ovaries because of a 4.3cm "cyst" and another u/s on my thyroid.  The word cyst kinda flips me out because I was told I have 2 cysts in my breast last August, come back in 6 months I did and here I am.

At some point I will be getting a colonscopy too, I just dont know when on that one.

Thanks again all.  What would I do without you Kiss
