Meg - Best of luck from me too!!

I noticed a few newcomers. Can I offer this as motivation?  When I first posted on this board just over two months ago I had absolutely no expectations!!  I needed to lose over 100 lbs and I really didn't think I could do it.  The lovely ladies here gave me wonderful encouragement.  I got lots of advice and I adapted it to my lifestyle and I started exercising, being more aware of what I am eating and portion sizes and I ensure that I get at least 5 fruit and veg a day.  Since the start of August I have lost 26lbs!!  I can't believe it myself but I know I could not have done it without the help, support and friendship I found on this thread.  I only post every few days - but I am always welcomed as if I was posting more regularly.  I usually only post when I want to report my progress (and am looking for praise!!) or when I need support - in other words I take alot more than I offer.  But the point is the support is motivating, unconditional, 24/7, positive and encouraging.  So if you are new to this thread and are looking for motivation let me assure you if the ladies here have managed to motivate me enough to lose 26lbs and counting!!!  Well you can do it too. Whether it's weight loss, or improving your fitness level or just to go from one day to the next - you've come to the right place!!

Ladies - thank you, thank you, thank you - you are the finest!!

Goodness, I'm all teary eyed at Meg's and Ainm's posts!!....first for Meg, I can't imagine what you are feeling, the apprehension of it all, but I hope you feel us all with you tomorrow.  I wondered what you did for a living, with all the traveling you do!  Are you ever out in Calif?  second for Ainm, you have come so far and are doing so well.  You always say you take more than you give, I don't believe that for a second, you give more than you think, you are such a kind hearted soul...I was just wondering how you were doing on my lunch break, and there you were here when I signed on!

Here's to ovaries being history and exercise and portion control and undying support 24/7!

    What Kari said!

Meg ~  I will be thinking about you tomorrow, praying for a picture perfect surgery and very speedy recovery.  You're in such great shape, you should sail through this.  Does it require a hospital stay?  Time off work?

Ainm ~ Your weight loss is an inspiration to me!  When I was trying to get re-motivated to get out and walk yesterday, you and Spring were uppermost in my minds -- probably because you've both stuck with exercising in spite of the challenges.  So, as Kari said, you just don't realize how your presence has influenced us!     Deanna

Good Evening -- Meg best of luck and you are in all of our prayers. Need any help? I'm looking for a job that I don't work my tush off for. (The reason I worked a weird schedule was because the other  desk clerk told the boss she had to see a lawyer about  her divorce but I can't see why she needed Fair Tickets for that!!!)

Slept 11 hours last night. Dd slept too. I woke up with her head on my stomach snoring. Her not me! Walked Dd twice today, yoga and even did some weed pulling. Unlaxing now. If I get energetic I will go kayaking on Thursday.

Ainm you are doing great. When I feel low and down I log on and see how everyone is doing and pick myself up. Have a scratchy throat and hoping it is allergies. Night to all. Yes I am still tired!

Meg--I will be holding you in my thoughts and with the hope that your surgery will go well and your recovery will be smooth. Ainm--You are so hard on yourself! I remember a quote to the effect of "You can search the entire universe and not find another person who is more deserving of compassion than yourself." It's a great reminder to be as accepting and kind toward yourself as you are to others. Thanks for showing up and speaking from the heart--that "counts" for a lot! Mumayan--Here's to finding new motivation after getting a cancer free path report; I hope you will heal well and grow stronger each day. Deanna--I find that my gratitude for working out is even greater when I have to push myself--but not too much--so I hope that your working out as you recover will really lift your spirits. Joy--YIKES--what a schedule. I would be brain dead. I'm glad that you got good rest and enjoyed walking and yoga; even weed pulling is a good work out! I hope your Thursday brings you exactly what you need! dharmamama--Good luck with the 2nd opinion. Let us know how you are doing and how we can help!

Ditto what everyone else said! Meg, good luck!! We'll be thinking of you! Mumayan--so glad you got a good report back. Deanna and Spring--you ladies are motivational!! Joy--so sorry your work schedule is crazy. Hope that doesn't last too long--remember to push back sometimes where you can. Hate to think of you being taken advantage of b/c of your work ethic and kindness...love the image of your Dd sleeping on you! :)

I am tired too just from running around and prepping for the family visit. Parents arrived today and am picking up my brother at the airport tonight at 10:15--am falling asleep already!!

    Night night ladies!

Meg, thinking of you. I think it must be over now and you must be recovering. My thoughts and prayers Meg!!!

Mum, cracking me up about the too big belly, but so glad at your good path report. What a load off your mind!!!

    Allie, ENJOY family!

    Joy, that's some good sleepin!

Yesterday walked 35+ min and 1hr+ of Yoga. Yesterday was not as good a day as it has been recently in my recovery. I was really struggling on the walk! DH was pumping 2 10lb weights and I was struggling to keep up! We walked later in the day and I felt pooped for some reason. (Had a Dr. appt for 2 hours that am, maybe I was just wiped out!)

Hoping today is a better day.

Mum, I forgot to tell you that I'm happy for you!!!  I'm very forgetful at times.

Joy, I had to laugh a the Fair Tickets comment...so cute the image of you Dd on your tummy snoring!  Hope you have a nice day!!

Allie, enjoy your family, where are they all coming from? and for how long?  Have a GREAT time!!

    Brenda, great quote!

Spring, that's a lot of exercise and with the long dr. appt. that is overload!!  Don't be so tough on yourself...you are one determined chickie!!

I'm on a vacation day tomorrow so we may go 'play' for the day.  Today is lunch with a coworker from our Sacramento office, when I worked in that office, she and I walked every day for break.  I really miss her and that walk together.

Last night I didn't have pup duty, DD got out of class early!  Went for a nice long walk, and it was marvelous, the sun felt soooo good on my face!!!  This a.m. did a Pilates workout, back is still sore, but it felt good.

    Make it a fantastic day!

I'm also thinking of Meg this a.m. -- looking forward to hearing that everything went perfectly.

Spring ~  Of course you will have ups & down in the healing process.  My goodness -- all those hours of surgery -- your body has been through so much!   To quote my PS, after surgery, "Your body is p*ssed off!"  And overworking it is probably p*ssing it off even more!  It's great that you are capable of doing so much already, but it will probably take you several months to get back to where you were.  A month for every hour of surgery (to really get back to where we were) is the rule of thumb I've heard.  So, be prepared to go with your energy flow, even if that means no exercise on some days.  Your body needs that energy for healing.

I've found that if I don't get out early, even though it's cooler now, I'm not getting around to it later in the day.  So this a.m. I got out and did a 2.8 mile walk/run -- the first time I've tried to run (jog) since my surgery.  If felt great, but I'm also going to take my own advice and not expect that of myself on a daily basis quite yet, but just go with the flow.  As long as I can get out there and move my body for at least 1/2 an hr., I've decided that's my only requirement of myself for the rest of this month.

Kari ~  Enjoy your vacation day!   Allie ~  Enjoy your family!  Joy ~ LOL about the Fair tickets!   Make it a great day, everyone ~   Deanna

Meg, glad to have you back! I have been sending good thoughts up to the ether for you! I am sorry about your level of pain. Hang in there.

Did you have the DiVinci method? I hear the recovery is "better" with that, so will be interested to know if you had it or not.

Yesterday, 40+ min walk. No yoga! Today both! I hope!

    Hi Ivory,

Good to see you posting so soon. I too tried to get a bit of lipo during my hyst and ooph, but no such luck. I wanted her to take my appendix too and get rid of that possibility, no luck there either. Not unlike many here, I have had way too many surgeries the last two years and got through them very easily, but the hyst and ooph was different. Follow the post op instructions, don't think you can do more than you should, I did and it cost me 2 days with my feet up  and a popped stitch!

So take your time and heal, you will be up and running very soon.

Big hi to all, don't post much but read daily. Everyone seems to be doing great and that is the most important thing.

    Have a great weekend all!!

(((MEG))) ~  So glad your surgery is behind you!  kmmd's words are very wise.  You not only keep up a hectic work pace, but this whole journey has surely taken an emotional toll.  Rest up and soak in the relief that it's all behind you now, and you are on the path to complete healing...  Deanna

Great to hear you are doing good Meg.

If we can beat BC we can beat anything!

I am still walking but have a little set back. I have one h--- of a cold. And I am miserable. I'm working days and go to bed around 8:30 and get up at 5:15. Feel like I could sleep longer but can't. I blame it on the loss of rest when I was flipping back and forth on the schedule. My next day off is Tuesday and I hope to put some plastic on the windows and get ready for a long cold winter and hope that is isn't cold at all but getting propared.

My DS called and he is in the Saltwater Sportfishing magazine (Nov issue). The guy fished with them last fall and it was published now. You can go to saltwatersportfishing.com and there are pictures on the web too. I'm proud. Made my yucky day better anyway.

My Dd has decided I make a great pillow and now falls asleep with her head on me. I keep telling you all she is rotten!!

Mum and spring - you girlies take it slow. You will be back to norm before you know it.

Big shout out to everyone and have a great weekend.

Meg: you are amazing. back online so soon. But take some time out for your body to heal itself.

We have pouring rain and I am a coward so I only walked this morning, before the downpours.  Hopefully the weather will be better tomorrow.

    Take care all.

Meg, so happy to see your posts!  I hope your discomfort dissipates soon!  You sound like such a go getter, one who can't be kept down for long.  Praying for a clean path report!!  Lincoln is about 20-25 minutes from Sacramento.  Stockton is about an hour from Sacramento and Vacaville is about 50 miles from Lincoln.  You get around!! haha  big hugs

Mum, glad to hear that you are cleared for exercise! yay!!

Joy, bummer about the cold and your Dd sounds just darling...I tried looking up the sport fishing but it brings up a page of links....HELP!!  I'd like to see those pics.

    Spring, you are doing great!!

DH and I took off on Friday to see the Fall colors, but had to get deep into the Sierra Mountains to see any!!  What a beautiful drive though and overnight stay we had in the mountains.  It was very cold at night! brrrrr....

So happy, my younger DD called Friday night and wants to spend today with me, so I'm outta here, driving to meet her part way!!  BUT I did get my exercise and treadmill action in already!!

Make it a great day cuties!! Hugs and love to all!

    Big Hi to all,

Glad to hear everyone is doing well, especially our recent surgery gals! Joy hope the cold passes soon.

I think I am back on the exercise train, I say think as it has only been a week of steady exercise, already lost almost 2lbs, not much but a start!

We are painting today, our master bathroom. Thought I wanted a very light shade of purple so that is what DH painted yesterday. Right now he is at Home Depot picking out another color. What was I thinking (apparently I wasn"t) Oh well it's only paint.

Sun is shining here today so I am going to go enjoy it. Would love to see those Sierra Mountains too. Kari you should come see our beautiful mountains, the Rockies are beautiful anytime of year. You would at least have a place to stay!

Have a great day and week everyone.

Hi, can I join this thread? I finished treatment (chemo & rads) about 6 weeks ago and now I am finally having some energy to get back in shape. My DH and I joined a gym a few weeks ago and have been going consistently. I've lost one pound- whoo hoo! gotta start somewhere! DH has lost 5.

Ultimately, I'd like to lose about 55 lbs. I am also in training for a big hiking trip next spring. My DH and I plan to hike the Appalachian Trail- its about 2178 miles long Georgia to Maine. yes that's 6 months of backpacking!

We had planned to do it in 2009, but my bc dx changed that. I love hiking, I have hiked the AT before in 2001 and it was one of the best things I have ever done.  It's also a great weight loss plan- I lost 45 lbs the first time I did it.

Alyad, welcome, I'm thinking maybe I need to find that trail.  Lost 2 of what I put on with the Tamox but its been slow going.   If you're getting your energy back after 6 weeks you're doing great.

Penny, I would LOVE to see the Rockies!!!!!!!!!  Ok...its on the list!  That's funny about the purple, we did the same thing years back and kept it for a while, then changed over to the mocha brown color scheme.  Congrats on the steady exercise and 2 lb loss!  Awesome!

Joy, that link worked and what GREAT photos!!  thanks for sharing that link!!  Hope you continue to get better and rest up.  Your Dd sounds adorable.

kmmd, you made me smile!  That's great you found the pilates routine on cable.  I am soooo bummed.  For years I did exercise with the TV, now I have satellite and have NO exercise shows anywhere with the pkg I have.  So stupid....I have my dvd's but I loved the variety of the tv shows.

Alyad, BIG welcome!! I've never backpacked, WOW that sounds intense!!!  What a wonderful goal for the Spring!!!!

Had the BEST day yesterday, so happy!!  Spent over 4 hours with younger DD, we laughed so hard, shopped, ate, talked, just enjoyed the day.  Then stopped and visited with my Dad on the way home, we was surprised and very happy to see me.  Then stopped at my older DD's house and visited with her and her fiance and pups.  I was just smiling ear to ear and laughed so much during the day!  85 degree weather, it was gorgeous.  78 today and then it changes tomorrow, winds and highs in the 60's...

Just a quick note - My son is living proof that vitamins, exercise and eating healthy can help you live longer and that the doctors don't know everything. 18 months pass Dx. Plan to rest and relax the next two days before going back on 2nd shift.  Will be back to check with everyone in the am. Hopefully I can get some rest and get rid of this nasty cold crap.

May I join you all?  Motivation has been my problem all my life.  I don't really care for exercise, but I love to eat.  However, I don't want to get any bigger than I am ..... I'm 5'6" and about 130 on an accurate scale, so I think I'm just right.

Last year a couple of months before we discovered my tumor I went to the doctor and his scale said (gulp) 146!  I immediately bought a new scale ..... mine was saying 133 and a pedometer and upped my exercise.  I'd already lost 5 or 6 pounds when we discovered the lump in a routine mammo. and truly easily lost the rest of the weight because I stopped eating!  I actually had to push myself to eat during that period because once I skipped a couple of meals I completely lost any desire for food.

I exercised all the way through ...... skipped the days of surgery, of course.  (I had two, first a surgical biop. followed a month later by a slightly larger surgery to make sure that we got enough tissue for the clean margins.)  I did exercise during my 33 days of radiation .... probably more than I normally would have during the holidays.  I think I was using exercise as a coping mechanism.

Now I had my very first mammo after BC .... exactly 1 month ago yesterday!  Yesterday was also the anniversery of the offical lump,  (OK, I was really, really lucky on this one.  It was "only" DCIS and it was so very, very early that the biop. actually removed the whole thing.  Rads were a piece of cake for me.  But psychologically, wow, now that wasn't easy.   In fact, I couldn't really talk about it to anybody until the last couple of months.)

Well, the problem I'm facing is that my motivation to exercise totally dropped as soon as I got a clean mammo.  I'm hoping by 'talking' with other women like me I can bring it back.  See, I still love to eat and I know if I don't exercise I'll grow again ..... and I bought new clothes for the smaller me and I don't want to go back to the bigger me --- even if that wasn't so big.

    Thoughts?  Motivators?

Thanks for letting me rant away.Laughing
