I've heard a lot of great things about wheatgrass juicing & would like to give it a try.

Unfortunately I don't have a way to obtain fresh wheatgrass on a regular basis.  I found a few kits online to grow my own, but I live in a fairly small place and have no yard.

Just wondering if anyone has tried any of the kits available, and how satisfied you were with them if you were tight on space.

I also didn't see much info about the environment that is required to grow it...

Thanks for any help you can give me - JulieR

    Julie,

Do you have a Trader Joes, Wild Oats or any other health food store? I buy them regularly from there. My mom who is visiting these days to help me juices them for me. If you have a Jamba Juice you can buy fresh juice from them--they sell shots--but they are expensive. I do not know how useful this is. My mom insists I drink. So I do. I tried growing this but it was too much work.

I decided to try some wheatgrass for the first time at a local keva juice.  There was a partial flat of nice green wheatgrass right there on the counter.  Then the juicer wouldn't work.  It was a kind of juicer I hadn't ever seen before.  I watched as the girl disassembled it when it clogged, and there's an auger inside.

I have a champion juicer at home, which does great for carrot juice.  I keep reading about the important of being more alkaline, and green veggies are vital in getting there.  I like some parsley juiced with my carrots, but the juicer doesn't seem to like it much.  Celery and cucumbers go through pretty well.  Fresh squeezed juice daily is a wonderful thing to do for your health, and there's lots of options available that will taste better than wheatgrass.  You could probably grow wheatgrass indoors easily enough, but getting it juiced might require a dedicated juicer.

    Buster's Mom, try this website.

I think they sell the wheat grass by mail order.  I have a friend who had stage 2 non invasive cancer, had 2 surgeries, as the first did not give her clear margins.  She refused all traditional therapy from there as she had lost a sister to b/c 20 yrs. ago and said she would "find another way"

Anyway, she has been very generous with her information and while wheat grass isn't one of the things she did, she did turn me on to this website and has experienced their healing/cleansing retreats and says they are wonderful.

One of the things she does to now is take a "barley green" 'type supplement, though not that one.  I will look for the site for the one she does and add it.  She did Reiki, used iridologist, meditations, etc.  She is cancer free 10 years!!

Good Luck.  I beleive knowledge is power. I also believe it takes body, mind AND spirit for us to be healed.  Medicine alone can't do it!

I love wheat grass!  But I don't have the time and space to do it at home, so I buy it from Jamba Juice, or other places that sell it.  It is about $3 for a 2oz drink, but I don't drink coffee, have given up alcohol, most sugars etc, so I don't mind paying for it.  I drink 2oz a day about 5 times a week.  I always feel better when I drink it, and notice a difference if I am out of town and cannot find any.

    Skbaker.

Here is the link to the healing retreat. thundermountainretreat.com  (Soory, my browser won't let me do a cut and paste)

My friend also takes a  blue green algae supplement  that she gets from Simplexity Health.  You can also Google that.  The company is based in Oregon and the algae is from a spring fed lake up there.

    Hi

I grow my own orgainic wheatgrass and barleygrass on the window sill in propagators. I usually have four on the go, with a delay in seeding two. I live in Ireland and there is a lady here who sells live wheatgrass so perhaps there are people near you. I found her on the interenet and I buy my orgainc seeds from her.

I  feel it is very important to keep the body alkaline as they say cancer cells find it a challenge to grow in an alkaline body as they cannot find anything to feed on.I do this with jucing and chlorella vitamins

As far as the juicer, I have been juicing for several years and I have a Twin health Juicer which is a mastigating one.  It is fine with wheatgrass as long as you don't put too much long grass all at once. Juicing is a wonderful way to get all the live enzymes your body needs. Eating all the veggies I juice would take me ages.

Fresh wheat grass juice seems like a good idea but I don't think I'd be able to grow it at home.

Are wheat grass juice powders that are sold in vitamminshoppe any good? Can I start having it while I'm on chemo?

Hi Buster's Mom....you can buy frozen wheatgrass juice in bulk and have it delivered.  I don't have a source but www.lef.org has a recommended listing I think.  Or, you can google it and see what turns up.

I did the wheatgrass thing for about a year. It was fun &  is easy to grow if you have losts of free time, but takes a lot of space & TLC to keep it from getting moldy. And it takes a lot of fresh wheat grass to produce just a few ounces! My neighbor was an expert and taught me a few tricks. I usually had 3 trays growing and had a small stacking indoor greenhouse type of thing. Plus you need a special type of juicer, which I did buy. There are also places where you can order a weeks worth of fresh cut wheat grass online. They deliver via mail in special packaging. Some grocery departments also sell wheat grass in growing containers in the produce section.A days supply runs about $3 or so give or take. The book that came with my juicer said it is best to use wheat grass that has been harvested and allowed to age a little in a cool, dark environment before juicing to get the most nutrients out of it. Something to do with the sugar. But, it sould be consumed within a few hours of the juicing process. I juiced consistantly for a year, but developed an aversion/allergy to the taste. Now,I can detect it in any product and it still makes me get nausiated. I did not notice an improvement in how I felt while was drinking fresh wheat grass juice daily and I really did give it a long honest try! My neighbor had been juicing for years and swears by it. He still juices every morning. Unfortunately it just wasn't my cup of "tea" Took me 30 to 40 minutes a day to do the juicing and then clean everything up as the juicer had intricate parts to dismantle and keep clean. A nice hobby,  and fun for a while...but I burned out on it. Sold the juicer and now just take wheat grass in supplement form. Still makes me gag though! I would suggest you try the frozen or powdered versions 1st to see if you can tolerate it before investing in all the growing & juicing parafenailia. For me, it was just too sickenly sweet. I know it is a dense nutrient food for anyone who can stick with it, and wheat grass sprouts are good in salads and on sandwiches.GOOD LUCK!

Thanks. I am gonna get the powder first and see how it goes. The growing and juicing sounds like too much work. I do have a juicer but I don't think it will be able to do grass.

Would it be ok to puree the wheat grass in a blender rather than using a juicer.  I put spinach, carrots, etc in a they come out great.
