Immediately after surgery, I used a Neosporin gel on my incisions.  In about 2 weeks, I used Mederma on my lumpectomy and SNB scars for about a month, then I started radiation and used only the aloe lotion on the whole area.  My incision scars are thin and only faintly pink, so they should fade even more over time.  Would I recommend Mederma?  I don't know.  I never tried another product to compare it to, plus I don't have trouble with excessive scarring anyway (keloids and such.)   That was the only time I tried a scar cream.  I can say I didn't have any trouble with Mederma, at least.

I use Bio Oil, a vitamin E oil.  It really helped with the lumpectomy scar, but isn't making much headway on the port insert/removal scar.  I am thinking of trying Mederma - anyone out there have any luck with that?  The Bio Oil can be bought at Walgreens, Walmart (I think) and CVS.  It's also good for the cuticles, etc. so it's a good item to have.

I did not use any scar cream, but here is a website that is helpful.

    http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/wordsearch_free.php?hq=scar+treatment

it shows that DERMATIX ULTRA ADVANCED SCAR TREATMENT would be the best choice.  If you are PR or ER+ you want to stay away from any creams that have "Parabens" in them.  Parabens act like Estrogen.  This would include your regular daily moisturizer, which most have parabens in them.  There are companies now that are making "Natural" products that are Paraben-Free.  I use a Jergens lotion that is Paraben free for my body moisturizer.

I think you will find the site helpful.

    Good Luck.

I use Bio Oil on my port scar, it has helped some with fading.

My Plastic surgeon recommended anything containing coconut oil or vitamin e.  I found a lotion and oil made by a company called Palmers that had both....I figured what the heck.  I've found the oil to be nice and light, and the lotion to be rich...also has spf in it.  I found both at Target and the local grocery store.

By the way, my surgery was a year ago and the mastectomy/reconstruction scars are very faint now.

    Hi

I used vitamin e oil straight. You can get a liquid from Walgreens so that you don't have to open capsules. I can't use anything else where I had radiation without getting pink and sore..
