Radiation and former smokers

Does anyone have any advice from a professional about receiving rads after lumpectomy for a patient who was a former smoker? Any info greatly appreciated!

My rad onc never once told me to quit smoking and I havent.  I had a lumpectomy and rads for 35 days.  I guess at this point , does it really matter?

My radiation onc told me that women that never have smoked have x amt of risk, women that used to smoke but have quit have xx amt of risk, and women that are currently smoking have xxx amt of risk ... all for developing lung cancer...

I'm not trying to get lung cancer too, but damn!  Don't they know our cigs are our nerve pills ?? LOL

I asked my onc about this as I am a former smoker. He said that the risk is there....as with everything else, but having radiation the benefits far outweigh the risks of getting lung cancer.
