Eyebrow trouble
Hi ... it's been a while since I've posted anything on this site. Finished rads on 8.11. Finished chemo on 6/3. I lost my eyebrows and lashes in July. This was so devastating. I remember looking in the mirror and feeling like I had been erased. The good thing was that they came back fairly quickly. Now I have about an inch and a half of hair on my head. Finally enough to look like it's an actual short hair style and now my brows and lashes are falling out again!!!! Is this normal??? I am trying so hard to "move beyond cancer" but with these reminders it is so difficult. I know that it is purely a vanity thing ... but it really bothers me. I am so sad. Has this happened to anyone else?
I was a frequent flyer on this site for a while, but I've been trying to move on and not focus as much on this disease. Emotional ups and downs have been difficult but I was doing so well until this setback. Trying to remain positive. Thanks for listening ladies. You all know the pain and heartache that this disease causes.

I recall this too, I think it is that the lashes are all on the same growth cycle. I'm a year + out from chemo and they're all filled in nicely again.
I'm sorry you're facing this.

Hi Nancy,
This has been happening to me too. I think Kath has it right that they are on the same growth cycle. It is happening to me less now (finished chemo a year ago) so hopefully it will taper off for you too. I've thought about getting some good falsies from MAC if it happens again. Sorry your dealing with it.

Dear Nancy:
A number of the women here have discussed this topic. (see Hair, Hair, Hair ...)
As azsunn said, it appears to be common because they "turn on" to grow all at the same time, so their life spans are on the same cycle. As time goes on, they eventually move to a staggered life span, so they come and go individually.
So sorry - I feel for you. I'm just waiting for mine to grow back in. I finished chemo six weeks ago. I know it will be discouraging if they all fall out again at the same time. The good news is that it's not permanent.
Hang in there - we'll get there!
Be good to you -

Nancy, I can tell you that my eyelashes have fallen out, less and less in synchronization, every three months since I finished chemo in mid-May, 2007. Eyebrows have not been affected since the first time about 6 weeks after chemo.
At this point, only about 3-4 of my lashes bite the dust at the same time but it was a full year or more before it stopped being so obvious. I really hated that part. Grrrrrr.

They do grow back... Usually not like before... Make up works great for filling in the gaps...

Nancy,
I thought for sure that loosing my eyebrows would put me over the edge.. The last straw lets say.. They did grow back pretty quickly though... I thought the same thing, now what? Because of make-up though no one else knew I had lost my eyebrows and eyelashes, but for me all I could do was cry... Look at it as a last Howrah to chemo.... The best is yet to come... It does get easier with time... One day soon you'll be holding someone who has just been diagnosed and helping them in anyway you can to ease their pain... That in itself helps you....
Keep up the looking forward... The pain never goes away, but it does become less intense...
The new you will be awesome!

Thank you ladies. This too, shall pass. Just another hurdle to jump over. And like all of my bc sisters, we are getting very good at jumping!
