After searching on bc.org about flax seed it seems that there are two trains of thought...one is that FSO binds to cells and blocks estrogen absorbtion much like tamoxifen does-so that would be a good thing, and then the second thought is that since FSO is a phytoestrogen it can "feed" the growth of ER+ breast cancer which would be a really bad thing. Sometimes it takes the logic of youth to see through all of the confusion. When I was talking to my 17 year old son he asked what the benefit would be and I replied "maybe no more hot flashes". When he asked what the worst thing would be and I said "maybe another battle with breast cancer" he just looked at me like I had two heads. I guess I won't take it.

    drgnfly,

I already like your son. That gave me a good laugh.  I too believe, when in doubt, go without. Most of the soy grown here in the good old U.S.A.(about 90%) is genetically modified.  Any research they're doing using soy isn't from GM soy.  I'll bet my last dollar on that.  The soy we get in milk and other food sources more than likely has too much Roundup on it, in it and around it.  I go out of my way to avoid it for that reason alone.  If I lived in Asia, different story.
