Estrogen Blocker Medication,Breast Cancer, Alcohol
Has anyone heard that alcohol feeds cancer cells, therefore it is not a good thing to drink? Any advice would be appreciated!!!!

From all things that I have read, alcohol is a known carcinogen and there is a correlation between alcohol and breast cancer. If you google breast cancer and alcohol, lots of things will pop up.
Try www.aicr.org.

It doesn't "feed" it, but there is a correlation between amount consumed, and risk of BC. the more you drink, the higher your risk. They currently recommend no more than one drink a day.

I read that it is the way our bodies convert it to sugar that causes an increase in estrogen that may be the culpret, not to mention that it taxes the liver which is needed to keep cooties our of our blood.

I've heard conflicting studies; some say there is a correlation, some say there isn't. I've also been told that taking folic acid will counter the relationship between alcohol and breast cancer. Who knows what to believe sometimes! I decided that I'm just going to live my life; overall I eat well, I exercise and I usually get plenty of sleep. I still drink alcohol....in moderation.....and I still eat sugar....again, in moderation.

I've heard the same: lots of conflicting stuff out there. I think the same way; balance in all things. A glass or two of wine on the weekend is probably fine. Two or three every night probably not.
I'm pretty sure that there will be something along to tell us soon that standing on our heads whilst yodeling is a sure fire cure, or that eating branches causes cancer or gargling....
I'm just going to live.
. I don't drink my breakfast, or live on bacon, I'm pretty sure we shall all be OK.

I agree with Linda. We all need to live and I really mean live our lives. If that includes some alcohol once in a while, fine. If that includes some sweets, that's fine too. I think that for us (bc survivors), it can be really hard to keep things in perspective and not to go to extremes. I get caught up in this so often. I'm trying very hard to live by my own words and really LIVE!

I'd still be having my nice glass of wine if I hadn't quit smoking (cold turkey) 5 wks. ago. I will not touch alcohol until I'm sure it won't lead me back to nicotine. In the meantime, it's water for me.

If you are ER+ and taking a drug to block estrogen, then my med Onc says to limit your alcohol consumption. The alcohol raises the body's estrogen levels, just the opposite of what you are trying to do medically. She suggested a drink or two on the weekend was okay, just not every day.

Krissy, congratulations on quitting smoking. That's a big deal!

I am a white wine drinker, and from what I have read, all the information is pretty much the standard recommendations for any "healthy" woman. Drinking everyday isn' recommended, moderation is the key. I try to only have a glass or two only twice a week as I am a runner and need to keep on top of my fitness levels. But I do slip up every now and then for parties or special occasions, but I'm also not a saint, it is very hard to be perfect
Well done Krissy!!!!!

Pam is correct. For hormone + girls... alcohol is not really the best. It does raise estrogen., which you do not want.
I did a lot of asking about this at my center and others as I am a wine drinker... i was never gonna touch the stuff again... but I was 100% hormone-...

Hi Advice Friends....
Thanks for all the feedback. I do love my glass of wine at night. I'm thinking I will try to enjoy the spirit a little less, maybe just on the weekend. I'm with you girls in that I want to LIVE my life each and everyday. I love this saying...Yesterday is history, Tomorrow is a mystery but Today is a GIFT, that's why we call it the Present. I know I don't have any control over this cancer so each day counts. You all are in my thoughts and prayers each night. Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with me!!! Good Work Krissy. Congratulations on your accomplishment. I love this girl talk!

I recently found out that I have Menaire's disease..it involves the inner ear. The ear speclst.has me taking a diruretic for 30 days to see if this will relieve the pressure in my ear. I have heard that diuretics are not good because of the mineral loss and potassium. However I am on Femara and I have talked with my onc. I have to get a total blood panel on Nov. 2 to see how my levels are. I am 7 years of NED and want to keep it that way. If the diuretic doesn't work, I will just live with the stopped up ear feeling. Has anyone else had this Menaire's problem?
