Congrats Susan, only 2 more rads!!
I got my pathology report today, 2/21 nodes positive, clean margins. My sentinal node was positive, and so was it's neighbor node. The other 19 were negative. I've already been through 5 months of chemo, so when I heal it's on to radiation. I am having some increased inflammation at my surgical sites, the drains are draining fine, but I developed a hematoma under my right armpit (ALND side) they drained it today, that was painful. I still have so much swelling, I sure hope it gets better soon!!
-
Susan--Thanks for the good vibes last night during my MRI--it worked, the MRI was all clear! Congrats on finishing your rads tomorrow!! How is your skin holding up? Wow, you won't know what to do with yourself without all those ferry rides over for chemo and rads!
Towhee and Patti--thanks for the info about Harmony Hill, I've wondered about it too. Sounds amazing!
Hugs to all,
Jean

Jean - woohoo!!!! Great news!
Jessica - clear margins are such a good phrase to hear - sounds like your surgery was a success. I I'm sorry about the hematoma - hope you feel better soon.
Towhee and Pat - thanks for the Harmony HIll info - I think I need to attend a retreat there!
I am so happy to be done with radiation tomorrow and off of the ferry for awhile. My skin is very burned - I was told I had an extreme reaction I am such an overachiever (ha ha. Regardless, done is good!
-
Jessica,
I think we must have been posting at the same time last night, just seeing your post now. Congratulations on the clear margins and I'm glad it hasn't gone beyond the first 2 nodes. Sorry to hear about the hematoma, does sound painful. Hopefully things will settle down soon.

Hi All,
Congratulations on the good news all around-MRI's last day of rads....Hope everyone is keeping dry in the weather.

It's a lazy Sunday here in Poulsbo, and thankfully not quite as wet and windy as yesterday !!!
So I ended up getting a rather surprise phone call last week from the PS office. Looks like my long wait for recon surgery has been moved up rapidly. I'm now scheduled for Jan 14th "yikes" !!! Actually the timing is great, after the holidays, before spring .... a good time to be laying low for about 6 to 8 weeks.
I thought I'd give my two cents worth on Harmony Hill. I went back in 2008, while I was doing chemo. It was a day retreat with all types of cancer patients. It wasn't necessarily a warm/fuzzy experience to be a rather "newbie" cancer patient and listening to a few others that we're basically dealing with late stage 4 diagnosis. I do believe that they may have a bit more specific agenda for some of their day retreats. Just something to ponder. The grounds we're beautiful the food delicious and the staff very sympathetic.

Carol-
That is great news on your surgery!! Glad you found someone that can help you out and get it done and over with so you can move on. Congratulations.
-
cheers -- Glad you have at least one drain out! Take care.
-
Cheers - hope your other drain in out and your healing is going well -
Carol - that is such great news! Wow - January is just around the corner! Thanks for the info on Harmony Hill.

Hi Washington ladies, I have both drains out now, but I have been feeling so blah lately, healing is so slow, I'm not recovered from my chemo yet, and trying to recover from all this surgery. It looks like I'm going to have some trouble with lymph edema on my BC side (21 nodes removed there). I'm going to physical therapy, a program at Swedish for breast surgery patients. They seem to know their stuff. I hope you are all doing well!! xoxo Jessica
-
cheers247,
Congrats on getting the drains out! The lymphedema therapy is so important. I went for pt for 6 mos with a lymphedema therapist in Oly and would reccomend it to anyone who had nodes out. Even though some women never have problems with it, being educated about it is a good thing for all. There are tools and techniques that can help manage lymphedema. Hope you feel better soon.

Hi Jessica - My heart goes out to you for all you are trying to handle at one time. Glad the drains are out, it is a sign of progress! Hang in there and take care of yourself, one hurdle at a time.
-
Are you in the Active Program, Jessica? Isn't it amazing? I did that as well as art therapy. In fact, I'm still doing art therapy. It has been a godsend. The Swedish programs for cancer patients are excellent and FREE! Gotta love that. They do a Yoga class, but it's not ongoing. That I would attend for sure. You are feeling blah because you've earned it! You are doing so much in a short time. Don't forget to breathe!

Jessica, I know .... easier said then done to hurdle over some of those "blah" days. Stay the course gal ... the light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter !!!
Carol
-
Jessica, you have the right to feel "blah" - and today's gray skies don't help. Swedish seems to have amazing programs and hopefully the pt works fast. You are one amazing, strong lady and every day you will be getting stronger and stronger (healing from surgery and chemo).
edited to add that I am STILL waiting for that "new normal" happines to kick in......anyone? When does that start?????!!!!!
XO
Susan
-
Carol--what a nice surprise that you can get your surgery done in a reasonable time frame! I'm leaning towards getting an implant with the same surgeon so I'll be anxious to hear how everything goes. I've heard great things about him.
Jessica--ditto what Susan said about you being an amazingly strong woman; you are definitely allowed some blah days. I think the stress from dealing with this illness and the treatment is cumulative and it takes a long time for it to wash out of our system.
Susan (and Christl if you're out there)--I'm sorry I had to run out on your celebration; let's get together soon!
We've had a sick household around here (except me, and I'm knocking on wood as we speak) so I hope all of you are avoiding H1N1!

hello ladies! i am not originally from seattle - but we have been stationed here for a few years and will have a few years left... i am inspired by your strength and positivity. i figure i have lurked long enough and should come out of the shadows at some point.
i am brca1+ and have had abnormal biopsies since i was 18 years old. my most recent mammogram showed a lump on the left side that the surgeon wanted to remove. i finally made the decision to have a pbm. the path results confirmed that i had made the right decision with cancer on both sides. my margins are clear and systemic treatment is now my choice. i am currently trying to do reconstruction - roadblocks making it difficult. i have done so much research that i cannot absorb anymore. i seem to not fit the mold of 'normal' anyway. if there is such a thing...
anyway - you ladies are amazing! you give me hope and courage just knowing that you have fought and won. thank you for sharing your lives and your fight.
-
Hi Armywifeandmommy!
Glad you found us. There are too many of us here in Seattle, but we are glad to have each other. Glad to hear you are doing well and I hope you will keep in touch with us. It is a great group.
Tracy

Hi Armywifeandmommy, I too am glad you found us! It does seem like there are lots of us in the Seattle area.
I am 3 wks post bilat, and had more fluid drained out today, so gross, and painful! The hyst has completely healed, if I didn't have scars I wouldn't know I had it. I'm going to start rads ASAP, but have to wait until all of this fluid is under control. I am having my PT at Swedish, but not the Active program, it's the breast surgery/lymphedema prevention program. I now have signs of lymph edema in both arms, and have to wear compression sleves on both, and one around my chest. BLAH!
Try to stay dry with all of this rain! xoxo Jessica
-
thanks for the welcome cheers! I am already ready for the rain to stop - although I welcome the option for sweatshirts and cardigans
. I have not been given the authorization to move outside of the military treatment system yet - but I am working on it - it sure seems by the information that I am gathering from here.. that things work a whole lot different on the 'outside'
again - thank you for the welcomes! I am so glad I came out of the shadows

Hi Ladies
I am looking outstide and it definitely looks like winter is on its way! Cold, dark, my grass is covered in leaves and pine needles. Can't avoid it any longer-time to go into hibernation!
OK, pull out your calendars, time for us to get a date on the calendar.... here are some options
December 2
December 3
December 4
December 14
December 15
December 16
Also, while you have your calendars out, I am attending an event at Swedish on November 4th called Many Faces of Breast Cancer. It is a panel discussion with several people from Swedish (Dr. Rinn included) about current research and also survivorship issues. It is totally free (free admission, parking and appetizers). It is from 6:30-8:30 at Swedish-Glaser Auditorium 747 Broadway. Let me know if anyone else is attending, I would love to see familiar faces.
Other than that. Laying low today as my week has been pretty busy. Well as busy as you can be when you are UNEMPLOYED!! Sheesh, there has to be work out there somewhere right??
Hope everyone has a great weekend.
Tracy

armywifenmommy - welcome! I am also glad that you "came out of the shadows" to join us. Somehow, the comfort of knowing that I am not alone is empowering - so I love this site and this thead in particular. I learn so much from everyone! How long have you been in Seattle?
Jessica - so sorry that the fluid is still draining and painful! Hopefully, the lymphedema will subside as you continue recovering....
Tracey - I am interested in attendind the Swedish event next week (even though I am not a patient at Swedish).
December 3rd or 14th are my best dates. The3rd is probably the best for me.
Hope everyone has a happy Halloween weekend!
-
Hey Tracy (the leader of the pack) ..... I'll keep it short and sweet this eve .... looking forward to a group gathering as well .... and I'll go along with Susan, the 3rd looks good to me, but pretty flexible during weeknights !
A pleasant weekend to all my SIS friends !!!!!!
