Cancer as a trigger to PTSD?

Options

Hello everyone,

I hope you don't find the following intrusive but I would really like your help.

I am a PhD student at the University of Nottingham in the UK and my research explores the psychological impact of cancer, particularly in terms of traumatic stress. An increasing amount of research is demonstrating that the experience of cancer can serve as a trigger to the development of posttraumatic stress disorder symptoms. I am interested in exploring the levels of PTSD symptomatology in people with any form of cancer, in order to more fully understand the psychological impact of this devastating disease, with a long term view to gaining insight into how best to work with people who are dealing with the cancer experience.

I am looking for people who have any form of cancer who would be willing to participate in the first phase of the project. This will involve completing a short online questionnaire which asks about the impact of cancer on the way you feel about yourself, your life, and how your life may have changed since your cancer diagnosis. The study is completely anonymous and strictly confidential, and has had full approval from the Institute's ethics committee.

If you are interested in taking part, or would just like to know more, go to http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=t97XT_2fK09tETnxPTcQf3vQ_3d_3d

where you can find more information about the study and my contact details should you need to get in touch with me (you may need to cut and paste the link into your URL address bar for it to work).

I would be absolutely delighted to hear from you and there is space at the end of the questionnaire for you to give me your feedback and ideas on this issue if you wish to.

With grateful thanks and best wishes,

Hannah
