IBC with open draining lesions

Mario, open wounds under any conditions are awful to have. I have never heard of topical chemo or freezing being used with IBC wounds. It is not at all like the types of skin cancer where those treatments are commonly used. I am assuming that her oncologists are aware of and have seen her open wounds and if not, they certainly need to? It would be normal to think and hope that you can do something to make them heal. Unfortunately, getting open wounds associated with her IBC to heal may not be an option at this time. Her body is going through a lot right now and the systemic chemo does need time to kill the cancer cells. Her medical team should teach who ever is caring for your Mom how to keep her wounds clean and covered for the time being. There are wound care protocols in medicine for care of open wounds to prevent infection and it is important to have a trained professional either doing the dressing changes or to have the person doing them at least be trained by a professional, in order to keep the situation from becoming complicated by an infection. That person can teach what supplies to use and how to obtain them. And, make sure her doctors know her level of discomfort so that they can give her pain meds if needed. Is someone responsible with your Mom at all times? Tolerating Chemo and Breast Cancer treatment is a challenge even to a lot of younger women and under the best of circumstances.This is a good time to seek and follow medical advice from the oncology doctors and nurses and to possibley have visits from a home-health nurse if needed.
