Sammy, maybe you can ask to have lupron shots to turn off your ovaries while you're on chemo.  I think I've read on some of these boards that doing that can actually protect the ovaries from the effects of chemo.  I'm not sure though, so better to research it and ask your Onc.  I know 2 women who were young at the time of diagnosis and were advised to have ovaries removed, which they did.  Both of them tell me how it has affected their sex lives and bones.

Rose, I'll look into that, thanks. Smile I just posted at the Tamoxifin board -- after going through all this, I have a hard time imagining dealing with 5 years of more drugs.  The chemo is already more than I can imagine, but I'm going to do it, but the Tamoxifin seems like overkill -- GRRRRR!  The MAJOR decisions seem NEVERENDING!

    Have a great week!

I've decided on TCx6 for my chemo regimen.  I have ILC with 2 of my 3 nodes positive for cancer (I know I've written that about a billion times!  Forgive my constant repitition.) What kind of chemo did y'all have?  I'm trying to start my first trt. next Friday the 16th.

Hope all is well with y'all!  (Can you tell I'm from Texas?!!)  Laughing

    Take care,

    Sammy

I had 4 rounds of AC--- but I was node-negative- so that is why no taxol was recommended. I am on lupron which shuts down your ovaries--- I have had very few side effects from it..... sounds like you are getting started, which is great--the sooner you start, the sooner you can be done!   Keep us posted.

Hi Sammy,  I was 57 when I was diagnosed, so our situations are not the same.  I had an aggressive form of ILC, pleomorphic, Grade 2.  My chemo was AC (dose dense) x 6.

    Hi Sammy

I am having four rounds of T/C and I was node negative - I was 59 when diagnosed. My second round is scheduled for next week.

    Carole, Gitane, and Delaine,

Thanks for the info. on your treatments -- it's so encouraging to hear and know of people who "made it through" chemo and are on the other side of their treatments.  Can't wait to get there!

Funny, my cycle started a week early (I'm usually like clock work!) -- almost like it wanted to have what could be a "final" appearance in my life -- kinda sad to think that this may be my last one, but I'll remain hopeful that my ovaries will start back up again once this is done.

Take care and have a great weekend!

Perhaps your period showed up so that you can focus on the things you HATE about it, to help you possibly feel better about it being gone, even if just for a while. And again, as much of a pain in the butt as it is to tamper with hormones, at least we have that option...

I hope it all goes well for you!

    Coleen,

You're so right, and I try to keep that in mind -- at least, I do have options.  It could be a lot worse -- I'm just working through the massive change that my life and body is about to endure.  I'm going to hope for the best, and I hope that some day soon ALL cancer patients have life saving options.

    Take good care,

    Sammy

Just wanted to let y'all know that I've finished my first chemo treatment; I'm almost a week out.  I'm more tired than I've ever been in my life, but I'm making.  Thanks again to all of y'all -- it's been a rough journey, and I'm pretty much still just beginning, but it's so good to have y'all's support.

    Have a great weekend!  Laughing

Hi Sammy,  Very good of you to come back and check in with us.  One chemo down!  The fatigue is a big part of the whole chemo adventure.  Sleep lots, drink fluids, eat healthy and please come back to let us know you are O.K.  Hugs, G.

Thanks, Gitane.  So far, so good -- I guess I can say "good" since, thus far, I don't have any debilitating s/e's. . . knock on wood!

I see that you're over 4 years out from your Dx -- I hope you're healthier than ever!

    Take good care,

    Sammy

Hey there!  Well, I haven't posted in months, but I wanted to post again to thank all of y'all who've helped me along this crazy journey!  I've finished chemo, and I had my bilateral mastectomy two weeks ago, so I'm on the mend.  My path report showed no cancer (YAHOO!!!), so now I will consult with a radiation oncologist and ponder whether or not I"m going to have radiation and take Tamoxifin.  More major decisions to make, but at least I can see light at the end of the tunnel, and it's not the light I was fearing months ago!  Ha, Ha!

I hope you are all well.  Again, thank you for "being there" for me.  Smile

That path report is as good as it gets!  What a fantastic feeling to know that the chemo worked for you.  While your radiation oncologist is pondering and you are recovering take a little time for yourself.  You have done so much to fight this.  There is a very bright light at the end of this tunnel for you.  I'm really glad you came back to check in with us.  G.
