bone mets hurt all the time?
Do bone mets hurt all the time or does the pain come and go? Tami

That's a good question...one I'd like an answer to also. I was recently dx with a recurrance to femur, lilum, and other places. I did alot of reading about bone mets and pain and most of what I read said once the pain starts it's a constant pain. But then other articles I read said it can come and go. So which is it? I have an appt with my onc coming up this coming monday...then a 2nd opinion from a well known onc...I plan on asking both of them. But until then...if anyone has an idea...please let us know.
I am told I have mets in my rt femur yet it has had mild pain now & then but it usually doesn't hurt at all? It's strange...the hip that is suppose to have mets doesn't hurt...but the one left one with NO mets is killing me. I can't even lay on that side. (I hate living in cancerland!) I've read it both ways and I'm going blind researching this.

Chelee,
We both have a very same diagnoises, and I often wonder about my pain which was explained to me as after effects of chemo. ( nerve damage). I have since had a second scan in Feb. 2009 and I did have changes. Arthirtis as I was told. My pain has increased and is moving, so now I am wondering. I have not been that happy with my after care. I declined a 6 month scan cause it causes me such anxiety, but am now thinking of requesting one. I can not have a MRI due to having a expander in. I think it would give me some piece of mind if I actually knew what was going on. I was due to have reconstruction done in Nov. but due to loss of weight I am unable to do it. So I am thinking of having my remaining expander removed so I can have a MRI. I am due to have a bone density scan done, yes it was a after thought on my Onc. part since I have been on Lupron and Tomox. for yr. I am on constant pain meds nd really just want to figure out what the heck is actually going on, been seen by many DRs. but NO answer's. So yes the scan is coming back into my thoughts and the changes they saw. How can they tell the difference???? My first scan had no dye due to not able to get a IV. So what the heck!!! Am I crazy???????????
Thanks for letting me vent!!!!!!

It comes and goes. Or waxes and wanes. At least it does with me.

Thanks 33skidoo,
Mine is for the most part constant. Hurts somedays more than other days. I can't seem to get any real answers which frustrates me. I do not like living on painkillers. I m trying to be a mom and also work and find it so difficult to keep up my spirit. I fought the battel and now I am left with more pain than before! It totally S***S!!!!! and I want to move on with my life but this is a constant pain.
HUGS-Bridget
