morning all - Was in my first deep sleep last night and the phone rang. I jumped sky high - my son is traveling and I hadn't heard from him and all kinds of things went through my head. It was the boss and he is out of town. A guest had fallen and no one could get in her room. I got dressed and drove back to work only to find out the cops broke in the room. The lady is fine. Then I had to come home and start over again. What a night! So moving slowly but already have one walk under the belt. Only five more nights and then off for a few days. I think I have worked hard for this time off. I hope to be able to walk in the mountains while home. Everyone have a great Sunday.
I don't do everything everyne else does but just reading what all is being done it makes me move more.
-
Allie, forgot to mention that I did research the iodine, and some of the stuff scared me. My multi has 100% of it so I think I'm fine, but I will discuss it with my onc next month. I trust her. Thanks!!
Joy, you need some sleep!
-
Kari--yes me too so I am waiting for now.
I am SO sorry to hear about your DD's friend. That is just heartbreaking--esp since she was fine after the accident. Will send good thoughts her way....
-
Morning everyone,
Kari - I am so desperately sorry for your DDs friend - I can't even go there thinking of the pain of losing a child. How strange the world works - we had friends over for a bar-b-q yesterday and my friend had to leave early to help deliver a child (she is a midwife in training). ((hugs))
As for comparing workouts etc. I lurk every day to read and get motivated to get out and exercise because, even though I don't need to lose weight (please remind me I said that!!!) I need to lose the bad energy that invades my mind. My brain and emotions need to be motivated, it is as much a struggle to shift that as it is to shift my butt some days.
And Spring 2 miles !! That is exactly what I mean ... just awesome.
Can't walk outside today as it is raining, which we desperately need so will get on the treadmill.
have a great day/nite, big hugs
Helena

Thanks Allie and Helena, life is just so hard to understand sometimes...I didn't get to talk to my DD today to see how her visit went, and she's at work now, so hopefully tomorrow I can get an update on Carissa.
Helena, I understand completely and this thread helps with my bad energy too!!
Drove and met my best girlie and her mom was with her as she was meeting her best girlie. So we all hugged and laughed. My friend's mom is 82 and still looks great!! She said I look the same as always, that's a good thing!! We spent a normal feeling day, shopping, talking, lunch, dinner!! we have always had the gift of gab, I really needed being with her today. I'm really tired now, that was a long day for me and a long drive. Nighty night cuties!
-
Kari, my thoughts and prayers go to your DD and her friends Carissa and her husband. I can't imagine losing a child, that would truly be the most horrid thing to go through.
No exercise today but go back to work tomorrow, it has been 7 weeks so about time. Anyway the time of laying around eating bonbons all day is over.
Joy, used to do call, getting calls in the middle of the night really sucked, sometimes it was hard to get back to sleep, sometimes it didn't matter because I would get called in for the second time. Glad I don't do that anymore.
Have a great week all.

Today DH and I walked one "lap" around our old park route! We used to do 2 loops (4.4 miles) but today was 2.4 miles. 20 minutes first mile, 19 minutes second mile. IT FELT SO GOOD to be out there again, even if only half as much and slower ... Like a milestone in any case!
I also baked 3 loaves of pumpkin bread... !!!! I think I am really starting to feel more like my old self.
-
Hi, all ~ Just checking in, and I'm so sorry, Kari, about your DD's friend, Carissa. I can't imagine the pain she and her family are going through, and I'm sure she will always wonder if her accident played any part in it, or if they missed something about her baby's condition back when it happened. What a tragedy.
We finally have some normal temperatures here, so I was able to walk almost 5 miles this a.m., and thoroughly enjoy the 60 degree temps and very strong breeze. We get so little "weather" here; I love it when we have wind or rain or anything that feels like weather or a season besides summer.
Hope you're feeling better this week, Brenda. And, Spring, two miles already?! What a way to celebrate the 1 month anniversary of your surgery!! Your DH must be so proud of you!
Hope everyone has a great week! I am still waiting to get my SUV back -- since 9/17! Deanna
-
Spring, 2 miles - YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can you share the pumpkin bread recipe? I made 2 more loaves of zucchini bread, last big zucchini...plants have been ripped out for the season
Deanna, YAY for 'WEATHER'!! When temps are sunny/hot everyday, anything different must be a celebration! My DH emailed me earlier with the subject line ROAD TRIP AGAIN...and the content of the email was the forecast for Palm Springs!! We really want to get down there! Did I miss what happened to your SUV?? Hey, how is your son doing??
Love to all!
-
Allie, kmmd, Ivorymom, Ainm, pk, Kari, Helena, Deanna--Thanks for the words of support! It helps me to hear "reality checks" from you all. (And a special thanks to Ainm, who added that special workout for me!)
Kari--I am sad to hear about your DD's friend and all that she and her husband have experienced, knowing the grief they will have for a long, long time. Your daughter may want to mention Compassionate Friends to them, since that organization consists of parents who have lost children at any age. Perhaps being supported by others who have experienced a similar loss would bring them comfort. I know that being supported by others living after breast cancer diagnosis has been very helpful to me, because you all "get it"!
Spring--Congrats on your recovery and walking 2 miles! And Helena--I know about the "bad energy" that seeps in, sometimes before I even recognize its full force. I think I have mentioned here that my commitment to more physical activity and workout is in part because of my mood lifting when I do so. I also get the "crazymaking" thoughts sometimes, and walking especially helps me to have more peace of mind.
Here's to uplifted moods, peace of mind, and stronger bodies to all!
-
Brenda, thank you for that suggestion for Carissa. I emailed my DD with the info just now. I know I was in denial, shock, etc. and my onc referred me to BCO and I just couldn't bring myself to post at all until I hit the Rads part of my treatment. Then it was like a whole new world opened up to me and I felt 'at home'. Big hugs to you!
I met my DD for a salad after work at an indoor/outdoor place at our mall. Its very dog friendly around here, so she brought her pups, and when they saw me they went crazy! I just love seeing her and them!! haha Then I went home and threw on the tennies and hit the pavement, did my 30 minute walk, I have to say at the 20 minute mark, my body just kind of melted...I was done but I managed to get home but slowed my pace down. I was so pooped. Did do my stretches for 30 minutes afterward and got a little band workout for the arms in also.

Wanted to post a big "Happy Birthday to Meg" today...I know she is getting an 'ooph' for her birthday, but not sure if that is today as well...!!! Good thoughts and hugs to you sister!
Diane, best wishes to you in your surgery today! Speedy recovery I hope! Big hugs!
-
Oh, you ladies are soooo motivating. Thank you.
I am bringing my gym bag in from the car after my post, so the darn thing can stare at me the rest of the afternoon from its perch across from my desk. Maybe that will provide some motivation. Speaking of motivation: our local Making Strides walk is this weekend and I plan on bringing my DD (a choc. Lab) with me to the walk with him sporting a pink bandana.
Helena - Love the pic with your DD!!! And my oh my, yes those arms are buff. Nice guns.
Finnegan and Joy - thanks for asking about my appt. It went well! The spots are apparently some genetic type of discoloration to the skin, but non-cancerous, thank goodness.
Kari - I am so sorry to hear about Carissa. Simply heartbreaking. You, Clarissa and her family will be in my thoughts and prayers.
Ok Ladies - Sorry for the short post, but I've gotta go and earn my keep around here - hope everyone has a great rest of the day.

Meg - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
And Diane, best wishes on your surgery today!!
Raye (I am sorry, I was rushing).
-
Meg--happy birthday and hope it all went well!! :)Diane--good luck!! Raye--love the use of DD for the dog! I will do that too esp as I don't have a "regular" DD!
Spring--you continue to astound...and same to you Ainm--20 lbs, woo hoo!!!! You ladies rock.Brenda-you have wise words always--I love "uplifted moods, peace of mind and stronger bodies for all".
-
Not sure where I've missed it (was it mentioned on this thread???), but HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Meg! Aren't they sweeter after bc?!
And thinking of you, Diane, cause it sounds like you're having surgery today -- again not sure where that was mentioned, but sending strong positive vibes, wishes and prayers for a flawless procedure and speedy recovery!
Thinking of you both ~
And Helena ~ Don't remember if I mentioned it already (chemo brain), but what a beautiful photo -- you, your DD and the scenery! Deanna

Well, I find out next week how much long I have to wait for the exchange. In the meantime, if I am not careful, I over exercise and the te tightens up. I have discovered the lebed method stretches help that out, but egads I don't like putting off some kind of exercise.
Speaking of pets, it is raining here in Michigan and my long haired kitty is walking around in the pouring rain and I just had to drag our labrador outside for once today. I dragged the cat in and she begged to go back out while the lab stared mournfully at from outside. What is up with that? The sweet little beasts are a bit mixed up.
-
Deanna, the B-Day and the surgery were mentioned on another thread and on FB. However, I know they both read this thread as well and wanted to make sure they get all the good wishes they deserve!!
I believe our beloved Meg was getting an 'ooph' for her birthday, but not sure if that is being done today?? Best wishes to you Meg!!
-
how about Dd for Dear Dog?? although I think I can figure it out once you describe the situation, haha!!
-
Happy Bday Meg!! (( I missed that too!! ))
Are any of you getting flu shots? The nurse navigator at the cancer center said i should go in as they have flu clinic hours M W F 2-4. I think I am going to do it this week.
-
Hi gals this is going to be a double errrr triple post.......Surgery went pretty well today. I got my TE put in on the L and my simple mast on the R but the PS couldn't go straight to implant so I have a TE on that side too.....I was told this could happen but was hoping to be done with the one side. SIGH......I was a BIG baby while waiting to get taken back to the OR. I teared up everytime someone came in for my preop CRAP. Oh, and I love my surgeons....on my paperwork it said I was having breast augmentation...YEAH right I am hear for a boob job but not my flipping choice. SFBC! I have 2 drains and a lidocaine pump for 4 days. So far I haven't taken any pain meds. I hate the feeling of them. I just asked for some tylenol and for the nurse to take the Dilauded pump off so I can have a Tylenol with codeine if I need it.
Now looking forward to the healing process. I am going to miss picking up my little (almost 2 year old).
I gave all 3 of my kids LOTS of hugs and holding the past few days to make up for what I will miss in the next few weeks....
I have already taken a walk around the unit and boy did that help me feel a bit better! Going home tomorrow around noon time to start the home recovery!
Diane
-
Meg......Happy B day and hope all went well for you with your surgery.
hugs
Diane
-
Diane wishing you all the best in your recovery, you will figure out a way to get those hugs in!
Meg happy birthday and speedy recovery to you too.
My first two days back at work have gone well. Day off tomorrow, yeah!
All the best to everyone else.

Diane! You are amazing! Can't believe you're on the computer already! Thanks for letting us know you're out of surgery; it sounds like you're doing great! Big, gentle (((hugs))) to you, and glad the worst is behind you! Deanna

Meg, I am 7 weeks out of hystero and ooph. My choice to have the ooph or do tamoxifen (hystero for edometriosis-killed two birds with one stone). The only real issue I am having as a result of the ooph are the warm moments. Four days after surgery they started along with the night sweats and body aches. Some mornings it took me an hour to get moving, some nights I had to change my pj's. Some of the hot flashes made me feel sick. My gyn didn't give me anything to combat these SE's but told me they will get nasty before they get better. Gradually, it took me less time to get moving in the morning, the nights sweats have almost subsided, still get really really warm around 3 am, haven't had to change my pj's in the middle of the night for about 3 weeks. Even the sick feeling with the hot flashes are very minimal. That is my experience with the ooph. Today, feel great and life is good. I wish you luck with your decision and if you have the surgery, I hope you sail through like me.
-
Hi ladies.
Kari- love the "Dd" idea...
We just got back from the park.
Did you all happen to see that NFL is doing a BC awareness by wearing pink hats, using pink towels, etc. Funny to see on all the big guys! Good for them...
I am getting a flu shot--think I have an apt at the cancer center at the end of the month so will get it then...
-
Just have a quick sec, Kari so sorry about Carissa and the baby, always a heartbreaking experience but has to be more so with those circumstances.
Happy Birthday and well wishes to those recuperating from surgery. I'm sorry I don't have time for individual shout outs, I thought they were killing me at work before but this week and next have set new heights. However, have managed to stick to the exercise goals, I am getting that in, just not room for anytings else. I'd pay money for a pedicure and time for a long soak in a tub right now. : )
-
I've never had a flu shot...hmmm Wonder if our oncs are recommending?
Diane, awwwwwwww you cried everytime they came in? Well you sweetie, I would have probably done the same, maybe the reminder of the last surgery? BUT you DID it! And check you out, walking around and posting!! YAY!!!! Just let your kiddies give you lots of hugs and kisses!!
Meg, my DH and I did the same thing on our celebratory night out a while back with the chocolate cake, it was huge and delicious! Don't do that very often!!
What a sad story of your coworker...gosh that is just dreadful. They are doing an autopsy but will release the body any day and there will be a funeral, but not sure when yet. I guess a member of the family had gone in and taken all the nursery stuff and put it in the basement. They also took a photo of the baby, but Matt (daddy) said he didn't want it. My DD said don't make that decision yet, put it away or give it to a family member because one day you might want it and if you throw it away, that's permanent. Heavy sigh... Good luck on the ooph, has to be hard when you don't want something but the medical community is saying you need it.
Penny, sounds like you're doing much better. Do they prescribe Effexor for hot flashes like they do with Tamox? I don't really get many hot flashes so I don't need anything. Hugs
Allie, loved the pink stuff that the NFL is doing! Loved the pink cleats!!
kmmd, geez you work for slave drivers!!!!!! Sending you a virtual spa day right now....ahhhhhh deep breath girl!! Hang in there.
Saw the medical asst to my onc at Trader Joe's after work...of course she always comments on my hair and always brings up how they all loved my wig...oh but your hair is cute now too....sure...HAHA!!!! She is a nice lady, a bit older than me, took her a minute to recognize me. Went home and walked, even ran some steps here and there...and then made a stir fry and brown rice, bought some Thai red curry sauce and organic chicken...but lemme tell ya, I was still hungry and hungry all night!! shoot
Love one another and help others to rise to the higher levels, simply by pouring out love. Love is infectious and the greatest healing energy.
~Sai Baba -
The breast care navigator at my ONC office recommended flu shots. They apparently have flu clinics MWF 2-4, I am going on Friday. She didn't even want me to wait until Nov when i had an ONC and ZOMETA appt. So it goes!!!
-
Hi, you amazing ladies!
Kari - I have been thinking about your DD's friends baby - it is so sad and I think the advice your DH gave about the picture was very appropriate. I hope they do get some support and help in dealing with this. I was like you I discovered BCO soon after I was dx but it was at the end of my rads I started posting and it has been such a help to me. Now I've joined a small BC support group too (well it's just once a week for 7 weeks) and I'm finding that helpful.
Meg - Sorry I missed your birthday - that cake sounds delicious - my mouth is watering just thinking of it. My Mom had visitors at the weekend and they brought a lovely coffee cake - I had two big slices!!!
Pk - Hope work is going OK for you. I've started back to do half days lately but I'm not killing myself. I work for my DH - I do his admin - we have just a small business, him and me against the recession. Business is very slow anyway - I joke with DH that if I hadn't been unavailable for work because of this previous engagement with BC he would have had to sack me due to lack of business!!
Hi Spring - I must confess to still not getting out exercising, each time I read about your progress I feel ashamed!! But I am still doing Wii every day and I am losing weigh at an average of about 2lbs a week so far. I hope you continue to have a good recovery. Oh and my onc recommends the regular 'flu shot for me but he said he hasn't decided about the swine flu shot yet!!
Sorry for missing out on so many of you but I can't remember all that I've read!! A big hello to everyone especially any newbies or fairlynewbies!!
Diane - gave you a shout on the Bottle o Tamox thread but hi again!!
Had an appointment with my rad onc today and he doesn't want to see me again - one less dr on the list!!
Thanks to all.
