Flu Shots and Swine Flu Shots
Has anyone talked with their doctors about receiving the regular flu shot and also the new Swine Flu Shot?
Family doctor says getting normal flu shot is no problem; he says doctors are still out on the Swine flu shot. I asked because of having had radiation and also am on Arimidex. Don't want to do anything to make Arimidex any less effective.
Blessings to all of you,
Mona

There is another thread regarding the H1N1 shot and flu shots that I posted on earlier, but I wanted to let you know that my onc wants me to have the regular flu shot, but told me she would not recommend the Swine flu shot as she and her husband (another doc) were not taking it as they felt it has not been tested enough on humans - she won't have her kids get it either. From that, I decided I would do reg flu shot only (which I do every year anyway). Hope that helps a bit.

My son had swine flu in the spring while I was going thru radiation treatments.I kept him confined to his bedroom for 5 days. No one else in the house got sick. You have to be very diligent w/ the hand washing. I also sprayed a alot of lysol & kept windows open. But I am considering getting the shot myself & my son once the vaccine is ready.

I was interested in knowing the similar thing about whether it is ok for me to get a flu shot. Scheduled to do one in about an hour! I was recently diagnosed and am still trying to figure out what my treatment will be (radiation or radiation/chemo). Any thoughts? Thanks

Hello Donna:
Hope you have made your decision as to your treatment; I know this is hard to do, but always remember, you are in charge of your life so your decision will be the right decision. I have had 36 treatments of radiation along with the Boost treatments; for me all was a piece of cake. I had no ill effects at all. I am now taking Arimidex and so far so good as far as side effects.
I have checked with my family physician about the H1N1 flu shots; he told me he was not taking one. I have also checked with my medical oncologist's office; they say that some doctors are still out on that decision. Check with your oncologists and your family physician; they will be able to guide you in the right decision. I will be taking the flu shot I get every year, however.
Be well and take care.
Blessings always,
Mona

Mona, thanks for the information on the flu shot as well as the encouragement for dealing with radiation. Glad to hear that your went so well. It sounds like no chemo for you. The "jury is still out" for me on whether I need to have chemo but should know next week after I get my results back from my Oncotype DX test. All the best to you. Donna
