radiation-tightness in implant

Options

I am a radiation patient.. i had tissue expander for a year and a half. replaced that with implant sept 08. just got back from the PS.  I can't stand the tight feeling that we are all describing as a tight bra. or suction cup stuck to my chest.. the nurse said that radiation patients will probably feel it forever.. please tell me some one that this is not true I want this to go away...

You might post this on the reconstruction forum for more replies.

I had exchange prior to rads and I don't have much tightness.

I stretch a lot. A whole lot. I find if I don't stretch for a few days, I get a tight feeling. The most effective stretch for me is hanging from a chin-up bar to pull the muscles under my arms.

I also lay face down on my wood floor and use my weight to push the implant around in the pocket to keep it loose.

I think if capsular contracture takes hold, your PS can do a revision to score it which should offer relief.

    Hi Trish,

Stephanie is right--this forum is primarily for women who are considering NOT having reconstruction or have already chosen NOT to reconstruct. If you post your concern on the Breast Reconstruction forum, I'm sure you'll get many more answers

That being said, I'm very sorry you're experiencing this. It does sound as if it might be capsular contracture, which is more likely to happen with implants if you've had radiation.
