Hello, I have had sharp pain in my left breast for about 4 months now,, sometimes feels like a stinging or burning sensation.. I have discharge and I don't seem to notice unless my shirt gets a little wet. I also have a red spot that atarted out the size of a dime and is now the size of a quarter, seems to be getting more red in color and more painful. I went in for my annual and my dr ordered for me to get a mammogram and a ultrasound, she also ordered a bloodtest, but I am unsure of what kind of blood test. I guess my question is am I wasting my time with these tests as I have seen that IBC can't normally be diagnosed by an ultrasound or Mammogram and even comes back negative for the blood tests. I called to schedule the ultrasound and Mamm.. they can't get me in until Oct. 9th..

Anyone out there who has had these tests and results were wrong? Also , anyone with IBC now or past that has any kind of advice..

I am a mother of 2, a 10 yr old and a 16 month old,, and I only attempted to breastfeed for the 1st month of the 16 month old.,, it was very painful... so the Dr is not thinking it is anything to do with breastfeeding. Other than that I had a partial hysterectomy last year to remove the left side of female parts due to precancerous growths and the ovary stopped functioning due to this. Also have now been diagnosed with lupus.

Thanks for any and all advice/ help.

Demand a skin punch biopsy-- the best way to diagnose or rule out IBC.  Tami

Thank you everyone who responded... I go in for the mammogram and ultrasound,, bright and early on Friday morning.  I am going to talk to my dr about the punch biopsy and see what she has to say.

    Thanks for your time,

    Lisa

    Lisa:

Just checking to see how you are doing and if you received any results back from your mammogram and ultrasound.  Did you get a chance to ask your doctor about the punch biopsy.

I went and had the mammogram and Ultrasound.. They came back with nothing.. still worried about the red area,, however they are stating that since my nipple is not inverted and the redness is not the size it "should" be.. ( with IBC)...that it can't be IBC... I'm still worried.. red spot getting bigger.. they also said no sign of infection wich they stated would have shown on u/s.. should I push my dr and ask for a biopsy.. they are wanting me to just follow up in 6 months... I'm confused and still breast is still hurting.

    JJmmom:

I  would demand a biopsy if you pcp does not want to do it. I would seek a second opinion for a breast surgeon.

I don't want to scare you but waiting 6 months for a follow up appointment is way to long.  You want to get a confirmation of no it is not ibc or yes it is ibc.  The sooner you know the faster treatment can start.

    Have a good weekend.

DEMAND a biopsy!  I was told to come back and double check in 6 months, I knew something wasnt right, but listened to my Drs instead.  And here I am.  Not to scar you, but this way you will KNOW what if anything you are dealing with.    It is better to KNOW imo.
