Hi Ace0001 - close, but not exactly the same. 100% ER&PR, HER-, Stage1, grade II but had ITCs in two nodes (pathology calls it lymph node negative though) but I was 46 at Oncotype DX time. Onco score came back at 6. 5% chance of distant recurrence. I do have a rare cancer though - but please join me in being a number 6. Fingers crossed.

Hi! I had very similar stats - 1.6cm IDC, 100%ER/PR+, her2- and grade 2 with no nodes. I was 44 and my oncotype score was 22 or 23.
Fingers crossed that your score is lower than mine!
-
You did not post if it was IDC or ILC....seems ILC won't bother you till later (in theory)...
I was similar (you can read my tag line for my dx and stats)...
I was 20. My first onc and BC surgeon were shocked. I fired my first onc and the second onc agreed no chemo. The biggest benefit for chemo in my case (according to my onc) was it would kill my ovaries.
My hormone status was not done in %, but in a more precise measure (which I don't totally understand...a 7 out of 8 for both er and pr).
best to you

ace0001 ~ I am the same as you except for our age. See signature below. (says 1cm but was 1.5cm) My Oncotype DX was 14.
Wishing you get a lower score!

Hi Joanne - do you mean the Oncotype DX test?
-
well hi ther helena yes i think so
-
This is a gene assay test they perform on a slice of your tumor (they will have some saved at the hospital where you had your lumpectomy). They look at your individual cancer to see whether you have any benefit from undergoing chemotherapy. Unfortunately you have to qualify, eg. premenopausal, grade 2 or under, no lymph node involvement (or perhaps 1 or 2), ER&PR+, HER-, tumor 2cm or smaller. Also as I mentioned to you on the other thread in Australia there is no Medicare rebate or private health insurance rebate. It cost me $5,800 but that was in the midst of the global financial crisis so it is probably cheaper now as you need to send the sample to America and relies on the exchange rate. Talk to your oncologist about it. With your PR- and 3cm not sure if you would qualify anyway.
Hope you are doing ok.
big hugs

Hi, ace.
I was 43 at diagnoses in May. I had two lumps. One 1.7c & one 8mm. I was 90%ER~80%PR, Her- 0/3 nodes as you can see in my stats. Also grade2. My OncoDx came back a 6.
That is a 5% chance of distant recurrence over 10 years with 5 years of Tamoxifen taken into account. I will assume since you posted in the IDC forum you have IDC as well.

Helena (or anyone else who understands the Onco DX scoring system) I am awaiting my Onco DX text results-they should come back Friday, 10/9. How does the scoring system work? Thanks, Donna

donna,
essentially there is a score 0-100--- the theory is if you are in the low ranges which is something like 0-16 or so, then there is no real benefit to chemo. If you are in the higher ranges, above 30- there seems to be a benefit. In the middle, well, you have to decide. Your onc will give you the data and a graph that outlines it all--- I think it really helps people make more informed decisions--- I decreased my potential recurrence rate from a possible 15% to about 8% by having 4 rounds of chemo--not pleasant, but it was doable---I have kids and a full time job and I was able to do it..... I made my chemo decision based on what I needed to allow me to sleep at night. Many people told me that an 85% chance that it wouldn't come back would be good enough for them--- but it was not for me..... everyone is different--but I sleep like a rock! I also want to mention that I was in great health when I started chemo and I think that made a difference--- and I feel as though I am in great health now-- I do not feel that there are any residual effects at this point. In the end, for me it did not matter, I wanted to throw everything I could at this--and now consider myself cured!!!
we will pray for a low number for you....

Exactly the same stats. Except I was 35. My score came back as a 10, so no chemo for me. I know there's more to it, though, than that. The waiting is really the hardest part. Good luck!

My score is a 20. My onco says it is up to me but since I am soooo er/pr+ (98%) she feels the tamox will do the trick. My breast surgeon asked me if I want a 2nd opinion. I don't know - I .am pretty satisfied with my onco and she is very conservative - I don't think she would say no chemo if she had any doubts. 20 is on the low end of intermediate - i was surprized it was as high as that but glad it wasn't any higher. My onco says that in a case like mine - it is very important to look at the whole pathology. I am very er/pr + no lymph involvement - low stage and grade if tumors - BUT had more than one tumor - had a tiny one in the other breast so tumors in both breasts. She is comfortable with no chemo but says it is ultimately up to me. I'm not scared of chemo I am just not sure it is necessary for me since to me it is so obvious I was one big hormone ball and the tamox should fix that issue.

I was age 49 last year at diagnosis---100% estrogen, 60% progesterone, HER2 negative, Onco score 13. Micromestasis in sentinal node, no other nodal involvement. No chemo, had double MX, reconstruction. LUPRON, femara.
-
I was considered Stage II when it is was all done but my score was 15. My onco said that the benefit of chemo would only reduce my recurrance rate by 2% and the risks of chemo cut it in half and for 1% it wasn't worth the risks....so no chemo for me. I edited because I forgot to mention my BS said it was "nice cancer" as far as cancers go!
-
I never had the oncodx score done, wonder why?
-
Deborye
not that anybody would pay for it now? I know that all tumors have to be kept for seven years. Also since you were less than 1 cm - they probably that it was to small to do anything with.
My onco did not want to send mine off but I said well if its to small they will say so (3.8mm) so that is my guess and also the technology in 2007 may not be what it is today
hope that helps
