Red Yeast Rice

Options

I've been on arimidex for 3 years now, my cholesterol has been coming back very high, i've never had a problem with it before but I do know that this is one of the SE's of arimidex.  I've heard red yeast rice can significantly lower cholesterol, anyone here know about it?  thanks!

Darcy ~ If you try it, be sure to get a premium brand.  My primary doctor told me a horror story about another one of her patients who developed irreversible liver damage from unpure RYR.  I don't know any more than that, except that I've also heard that it works well.  But I would be careful about which brand I choose.

There was recently a discussion on "Natural Girls" re. high cholesterol, which I've also developed since chemo, and it seems as if there's a lot of evidence that, in some instances, it's not a bad thing.  You may want to check out some links within the last few pages of the "Natural Girls" thread.     Deanna

    Sherri,

I'm developing a similar issue being on Aromasin. What brand of RYR do you use? I have access to about a zillion brands...

I have taken this and was told by naturapath it is very important to also take CoQ10 supplements to protect your liver and muscles.

Those taking any of the statins (apparently the statins come from RYR) should also take CoQ10 daily.

I bought "NOW" brand and they did mention at the health food store that it should be taken with CoQ10 for optimal benefits.  Thanks for your input ladies, good health to you all.
