Welcome Irhunnyb!
Congratulations on ur very recent exchange! Sorry to hear you are having challenges tho. I tried a 'Search' for you, with the keyword 'capsular contraction'(scar tissue/around implant?) as i know i have seen good links to massage tutorials and suggestions for treatment, etc. Over 200 results to that keyword came up, so you should find it a helpful until you get some replys. I assume time is urgent here.
Go to the top of this page, far right, under 'logout;, and click 'Search'. Key in 'Capsular Contraction' Let us know if you find a good source...

Is there a website that you can find stretching excercise on?
-
Well I'm 3 weeks out of having my expanders removed. Reused drain sites are still healing and the left breast incision is decorated with a hole. The PS says it will heal it time. How scary is that? A hole in your breast?? I think I will opt for the reconstruction again in March of next year. In the meantime I will be wearing prothesis. That will be interesting since I have a lot of skin left over. I had a skin sparing mastectomy. So I've lost 25 lbs since the first surgery (7/21) and my goal is to be down another 20-30 pounds by then so hopefully the bricks, uh I mean the expanders don't feel so heavy. Keep fingers crossed!!!

Deb48, I am so sorry to hear about your dh. ((((((((((((Deb)))))))))))))))).Take care. Celine

Sam1991 - I'm just walking in front of my home for now and when I go shopping. I drove for the first time on Monday and that was a little challenge since my range of motion for my arms is not all there. Getting better though!! I go back to work on the 30th but from home for a couple of weeks. I'll get my prothesis soon (hopefully-still healing wounds). It'll be nice to get back to some form of normality.

Hi Ladies,
I have been a member for more than 4 years, but I am posting on this thread for the first time.
For those of you who are still in pain, I give you gentle hugs. For those who sailed through fills (is there such a person?) I wish to be more like you...
My first fill is coming up next week.
Take care, ladies!
-
Good luck Brenda..We can do it. (((Brenda))) The first fill is easy... JUDY
-
Thank you, Judy. I have no pain at the present time, but the skin under my arm (where nodes were removed) is still swollen and my right expander has a thick crease over the incision. I'll just wait for my appt. day, which is Tuesday, to see what PS says.
Funny, I thought I was going to have a problem with my radiated breast. It seems to be doing better than the healthy breast! It looks like a hamburger bun with tire marks over it (lol).

Nealann,
I copied this from another post several months ago....I hope it helps you...
1. Lay on your back on the bed or any flat surface. Extend your arms straight up so that your finger tips are pointing to the ceiling and your thumbs pointing to your head (starting position). Slowly lower your arms toward your head until your thumbs touch the bed (or as far as you can go). Hold for a slow count of 5 return to starting position. Do 10 repetitions.
2. In the same position, slowly lower your arms out to the side (as if you were going to make a snow angel). Hold for a slow count of 5, return to starting position. Do 10 reps.
3. Stand in a door way. Place your forearms on the door frame with your triceps perpendicular to the floor. Extend one foot slightly in front of you. This is your starting position. Slowly lean forward as far as you are able. Hold for a slow count of 5, return to starting position. Do 10 reps.
4. Similar to the position in #3 above, the only difference is raise your forearms up the door frame as far as you are able. Hold for a slow count of 5, return to starting position. Do 10 reps.
I did these four exercises twice a day (in the morning and evening) and I noticed a big difference in 2-3 days. Once I returned to work (4 weeks after surgery) I only do them once a day but when I get a fill, I do them twice a day the day of and the day after the fill.
God Bless!

Angel10: Thanks for the info! Much appreciated! I am almost 4 wks out with TE's filled at 520 cc's each so far. Walking on the treadmill with a crosswalk ( to move arms while walking) too. Really makes a difference. I get my next fill 9 days from now. One day at a time. = )
-
Thanks for the advise geneskirt. Physical therapy helps very little. Was informed it would take along time to have relief. I have heard that ultrasound can be used for capsular contractures. I had a therapist tell me that ultrasound was contraindicated for cancer pts. Any one know about this?Thank goodness at present time, my scar tissue is around site where drain tubes were and not around implant.
-
dbbail _ 520 so far??? Wow - I'm impressed!!!

I had lots of discomfort after my second fill and I've heard others say the same. My third fill last week was easy. Took a flexril and half a hydrocodone an hour before, and again that night before bed. I've been good ever since, except when I sneeze which seems to be all the time. Allergy season where I live is in full spate. As soon as I sneeze everything around the TEs contract and I'm crossing my arms over the foobs and pressing against them. That seems to help.
KItty-- I found the sports bras at Walmart. They are super and I can put a little filler in the front so I don't look so flat and odd in t-shirts.
Good healing all,
Bobbi
-
What filler do you use, Bobbi? My favorite bra is also a sports bra from Target, but there are no snaps or zippers, so I have to put it on through my legs. It's so difficult, but I put up with it because once it is on, it is so comfortable.
My surgical bras have snaps in front, but they are not as comfortable.
Gentle hugs...
-
Brenda--I have two little shoulder pads that are just the right size and when I tuck them into the bra they stay put just fine. But I think you could use almost anything to give a little projection on top of our hamburger-bun boobs. Experiment. Your not very far out of surgery are you. Do you have anything in your implants yet? I'm at 300cc now and aside from being real flat on top, I'm getting a little projection. It sure sucks wearing the same things over and over, huh?
Good healing,
Bobbi
-
Thanks, Bobbi. My first fill is tomorrow. I don't even have hamburger buns. I have half of an English muffin on one side, and hardly anything on the other.
I am hoping for no pain, but most of the ladies on this thread have talked about it, so I am bracing myself and taking a pain tablet before I go.
Take care.

Hi to Everyone; I had a fill on Friday. 90cc on the radiated side. And 60 on the other side. The PS did this because the radiated side is not stretching as well as the other side. So it looks smaller. The expander in the radiated side is not stretching the skin on the bottom part of my foob. In turn this is causing the expander to sit higher on my chest, making a very noticeable difference. FYI I had bilat lat flap. Should I worry? The PS says he will fix any problems with the next surgery. Thank you
-
YMB,
I was not radiated so I can't compare with that aspect, I just had the BMX with TE's. I had my exchange in August, and that surgery did correct the differences between the heights of the implants so you will hopefully experience that correction, too.
Good luck and God Bless!

I had my first fill 60 minutes ago. SO FAR SO GOOD! I don't feel a thing!! PS injected 80 cc's on each side. Gentle hugs to you...
-
Hi Angel; Thank you for responding. I hope you don't mind my asking this, is your legal name Angel? I'm asking because that is my legal name. And I love it when I find other legal Angels, lol Please don't feel obligated to answer. (((hugs)))) Angel

A little achy, but still no pain. My PS is a genius.

Hi to everyone and Hugz to Yous *ALL*... im new to this forum and to..... breast cancer.... finding out , the begining of this* Aug. and.....Resulting with a Bilat. Full mastec with immediate recon Starting with "Expanders" . on (Sept. 15, 2009).... (ouch!)
is it normal for them to feel... like they are "Filling up"????????? and, somes times, they seem to be more painful...... Another strange thing is, when i drink something cold, it seems, like i have a hole in my throat (lol) and the cold drink seems to have the sensation of breifly* rush through my chest.... (very strange)...... has anyone had these sensations too??
this "Filling Up" can be very Painful... Does anyone have any sugestion to help Relieve the Pain???
Thank Yous, and i Hope that Everyone is Feeling Good tonight.
Hugz, With Love, ~ree~
-
juiliree - my first expansion was really painful. I've had 2 more since then and each one was a little easier than the last. Let's hope that continues! I got the cooler strapped to my chest feeling the first few weeks. It's gone away for the most part.

Hey Ladies!
I have a question , I have been expanded to approx 930cc ( also had alloderm)
6 wks post bilat mx/expander surgery and I notice everytime I lie flat on my back I get a sharp burning pain in my rt foob, the PS said it was probably nerve pain, it only happens in that position
( I know,I know, change position, right?!) Unfortunately I had an appt for my rads today pre D-day
tommorrow and I was in that position for 40 mins (machine went down inbetween x-rays for correct positioning of beam) SO... to make long story short anyone experiencing sharp buring pain in foobs?
-
Welcome Juliree!
Congrats on your first post! I hope it the first of many connections with others!
I had B/L Mx last November and 'delayed reconstruction. My expander surgery was in August and have just completed my fill process. I had experienced and read all sorts of sensations included the ones you have mentioned. I equate the 'filling' sensation to the 'letdown' feeling i had when breastfeeding my kids. I think it may be nerves healing and sensations restoring. Also, i have read many women's posts describing the cold liquid rush that can happen. For some, they describe it as a 'creepy' feeling. I just experienced about an hour ago out of the blue. I have also had phantom 'nipple' like sensations since my expanders were filled to over 75%. This is strange timing for me, as up until now, i would have said i am more numb than anything. These have to be nerves.... and i think its a good and healthy sign.
Different women experieince different amts of pain or numbness, but i was told the body will rregenerate nerves for up to 2 years! You must be a quick and healthy healer
Keep posting!

Hi Auorarz
You have been thru alot in a short time! Does the pain effect your breathing or spasm your arm or anything? You have probably been thru alot of pain killers lately, and your body has been thru alot of truama in the 6 weeks. I would assume it may be nerves, but i would stress it to your surgeon or surgeons nurse. Are you involved in any type of physical therapy to restore any loss of range of motion etc.? You are doing amazing!!!! Be sure to report your sensations to your surgeon, okay? Keep them informed!
-
Hi Ladies, I'm new on this site as well and hope you can answer this question for me? Input is more than welcomed! I had a MX with TX and alloderm on September 9th and to date I'm up to 600cc, my next scheduled fill is next Tuesday... with these fills I feel lopsided, part of my filled breast seems to be under my arm pit. Will this change with a couple of more fills? In my clevage area the skin looks awful, the only way I can describe it is the skin is indented, if the fill wasn't under my arm pit I'm sure it wouldn't look so bad, will this change as the skin softens?? I'm always trying to think positive but it almost makes me think it was put in wrong.

They are just medical devices, they are not the final implants. They are crooked, sideways, uneven and whatever. Don't worry about it unless it gives you a problem- like poking thru the skin. We hate it, but that's the way they are.
It will be fixed during the exchange to final implants. JUDY

Hi Judy,
Thank you so much for replying, my exhange will January for me if all goes well. On December 27th I will be taking a holiday for 10 days to a warm climate, and....this may sound very vain, but I'm not sure what to do with my boobs! Actually, vanity is probably the wrong word as my breasts were a part of me that I am grieving.
I also will need a letter from my PS about the expanders, he told me he had a patient that just came back from a trip and in the security section you walk through went off like fireworks and she had to explain about the expanders. At least I will be prepared for that in case it happens.
I appreciate the feed back, I didn't realize that they could be all over the place. My ps's nurse told me they will look like a work of art when done!
Blessings, Dana
