I am having trouble swallowing food, sores in mouths and sore soles of feet. Also have mild darkening of skin near genital/rectal area. Does this go away? received last dose of a/c now unto taxol. Am worried about not being able to swallow food well. Had to stop taking meds. Will see oncologists on Monday thanks! God bless you all.

I had trouble with sores in my mouth and swallowing while on AC.  It's not unusual.  I got a mouth rinse product that really helped.  I wish I could remember what it was so I could let you know but I can't.  However, I bet others know it and will be here to help.  It is probably discussed on the Chemo forums, too, so you may want to try looking there.  You don't want to wait too long, though, because it is important to eat and drink properly.  You may even try calling a pharmacy and ask the pharmacist.

PRV: I also did AC. I was told at my chemo class to rinse several times a day with nothing but Club Soda. Be sure to avoid any rinses that contain alcohol as it drys the mouth. Also drink lots of water to keep your mouth hydrated. I didn't have truble swallowing food so I can't offer any advice with that. Are you able to swallow soft foods like mashed potatoes, oatmeal, or milkshakes? Sore feet and joints are not an uncommon side effect. Good Luck and hope you feel better soon.

this is a good site for info.  biotene is good to rinse all the time with to prevent thrush and mouth sores and nystatin is good for thrush if you get it *the latter needs a rx.

On the positive side -- the mouth sores from AC, followed by food tasting like sawdust during Taxol finally got rid of the excess 40 pounds I had accumulated, so I got to buy a new wardrobe in size 6 as a back-to-work present to myself.

Mr onc prescribed "Miracle Mouthwash", which is one part anesthetic  (maybe xylocaine ?), one part antibiotic or other sore-healing stuff and one part something like Pepto-Bismol.  Pharmacist mixed it up and gave me a big bottle.  Made it posssible to eat soft foods -- lots of yogurt and ice cream, and Ensure for nutrition.

Hope that you've gotten something to make the sores go away !!
