Grass Fed Beef - where to buy?

Options

Does anyone have information on where to purchase grass-fed beef that does not break the bank?  I can't find it in my supermarket on Long Island, so am assuming I have to use mail order.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I just got some steakburgers from QVC. The brand is La Cense. They're pretty good. They are very natural but not certified organic. Close enough for me. No hormones, no antibiotics, no pesticides, grassfed.

Price was pretty good I thought.

Trader Joe's had grass fed, hormone-free ground beef in the refrigerated meat section.

I buy my meet from my local butcher. He does not used any steroids. I also buy my milk from my local dairy and it says on the bottle about no added hormones. Do you not have any local butchers where you live?

    kk69Z,

No added hormones means NOTHING when it comes to cow milk....there are naturally TONS of hormones in milk, including estrogen, especially in a pregnant/nursing cow.

This is my point about people not understanding labels.

sea~ You can buy organic grass fed beef or free range buffalo at Target. Is there a Target near you? It is about $5 a pound for ground beef/buffalo.

KK - yeah but where does your butcher get the meat from????   That might be worth checking into- does he buy it from a local farmer that can certifiy it is only grass fed?  If not-- it is probably not just grass fed.  And just a heads up-- I have only eaten grass fed beef ALL of my life -- and I am allergic to dairy -- so no dairy either--- I was dx'd Feb.1st. 2009.   Tami

    idaho:

My butcher raises his own cows and pigs and is only grass fed. I checked with him on that and I have been going to him for over 10 years.

I have just found information on the internet that all of our food naturally contains many hormones, and consuming them is unavoidable. All foods, plant and animal, have many hormonesy primarily protein based. Protein based hormones are broken down and digested to furnish our bodies with essential amino acids. I didn't know that anything we eat has hormones.

I found a local farm with a variety of products at http://www.localharvest.org/

They have grass fed beef and free range chickens, but so far I've just bought honey and eggs.  Farmers markets are listed at the localharvest site also.

Did this thread get shorter?  Did Dawnn turn into Dawnbelle?  I thought this was the thread that bemoaned the evils of factory farms and I was going to chime in today and repeat what I said on the natural girls thread.  I've stopped eating chicken, mostly anyway, since I saw a Pamela Anderson youtube exposing the deplorable and despicable conditions for the birds at KFC farms.

I just do not want any of my dollars lining the pockets of any aspect associated with a factory farm. I don't have lots of dollars to spend, but I'm doing my best to keep them away from factory farms.  "Voting with dollars" as I've heard it described.

Different thread & yes, I switched back to Dawnbelle.....I also got rid of my chicken pic, SORRY!!

Dawnbelle is my email address & I kept logging in wrong. The other thread was about sugar & red meat & dairy slowing cancer growth....is that the one you are thinking of?
