Comments
-
33 found lump, US tech said B9, but BS didn't want to take a chance. Thank goodness for him!
-
65 turned 66 3 mos later.
-
44 - initial dx stage iv w\lung mets. Found lump myself.
-
I was 27 when diagnosed with IDC, Stage 1, right breast, 31 when diagnosed with another stage 1 in my left breast, and 32 when dx with the mets to my bones.
I was the one who pushed for scans everytime. Waiting until 40 just doesn't seem smart!

What did they tell you your calcifications were? I am asking for details because I have them, they are being watched, and I am concerned because my mother had BC. The seem to "pooh-pooh" the microcalcifications. Was that your experience??
Thank you so very much for your anticipated REPLY!

41 -- First mammo (didn't do my "first" at 40) DCIS in left, IDC in right
Keljam1 I had micro calcifications in my left breast, initially everyone was just focused on the large tumor in my right breast, so there wasn't too much immediate concern. My breast surgeon wanted to do a biopsy "just to make sure." Thank goodness she did, because 20 days after my diagnosis of IDC on the right side, I found out that I had DCIS on the left side. (I also had very dense breasts which didn't help with the initial diagnosis.)
-
51, but have 3 tumors, one of which is large (5 cm, 1.6 cm and .5 cm), so I may have had BC for quite a while. I have radiographically dense breasts and even my diagnostic mammo showed the main turmor merely as distortion.
-
I started out at stage iv at the age of 44.

age 57 DX Stage IV large incl. lymph nodes, and second bout Mets to opposite side incl. lymph nodes, couple small lumps removed on first side also. Always had mammogram at birthday time of year, but breasts were dense and nothing was detected. The large tumor broke through the fat pad and amazed me. Currently on Herceptin clinical trial.

Mass could not be detected by me nor my OBGYN. Called doc for mammo and checkup due to slight discomfort in right breast. My breasts are fibrocystic and there is always slight discomfort during my cycle, but in March and April the discomfort lasted longer than my cycle so scheduled mammo and checkup. The odd thing is my right was perfectly fine, but left had cancer (exact opposite of where pain was in right breast). This was confirmed by mammo and MRI.
All medical professionals say I'm lucky that I acted since my cancer is Grade 3, but all indications show that it was caught early. My prognosis would be worse if I waited until my annual visit in October/November 09.
My lesson in this is to continue to is to always pay attention to my body's signals and abnormal health issues!

44.
Had mammo in Nov 08. It was fine. Felt lump and diagnosed in Aug 09.
My mother died of it at 44, that was 28 years ago. When she went to get a lump checked out her doctor said it was a clogged milk duct and never did anything further to check it. A few years later she was dead.
Times have changed, When I called about a lump it was a whirlwind and I was diagnosed almost immediately.
