Mets to humeral head?
Hi everyone,
I have been a lurker here since my diagnosis of metastatic breast cancer 3b in 2006. I had a 3 tumors in left breast with lymph involvement so I opted for a double mastectomy. On a side note, my sentinal nodes did not show evidence of cancer but I had 7 nodes further up the chain the tested positive.
But, to the point. For 4 or 5 months I have been having low grade fevers, nausea, fatigue, just feeling like something is not right. So, I keep going to my oncologist who just looks at me, runs some blood tests and sends me on my way because he doesn't know what's wrong with me.
I have come to not trust this doctor now for a couple of personal reason's. But the latest reason is that he sent me for a ct scan to see if anything showed. At my appointment this past week he shows me the report and just goes over it non schlant. He mentions a sclerotic lesion on my left humeral head and says oh this is just from an old injury. OK don't remember that happening. Then his assistant ran a certain tumor marker (which I can't remember which one) and it was above normal. I asked my dr about it and he said that he didn't know why she ran that one and it's usually high in most people.
So, I know I need to change dr's but I guess my question is: Has anyone dealt with mets to the upper arm. I have been reading alot about it and it sure would explain the pain in my arm plus other symptoms.
I'm just scared that the cancer has come back. I'm sorry this is long.

hi michele
i think you should find another oncologist. i can tell by your post that you are unsure of your doctor and i think it is really really important to have a oncologit that you trust.
mets to the humerous. i don't know the answer to that question actually but i do know that breast cancer goes to the bones....but i think further testing is important if you can find a doc who will listen to your concerns.
tumor markers can go up for a lot of reasons. you know, you have the right to all of your results....a copy of blood work, scans...etc. it is the patients right to have them. i have copies of everything (for 7 years...hahaha) because i want to have them in my hands if i have a question.
this is your body; you have a right to good care and clear information from your doctors. it is good to be "pro active" especially when dealing with cancer.
take care and hang in there

mine has mets to the humeral head and I went to a orthopod who said the cancer has destroyed the head and I will need a replacement. he told me it might be a new cancer or it could be a fungus, he depressed me so badly I can barely raise my head. I had breast cancer 10 years ago.
