Is anyone else an atheist with BC besides me?

I really think the bible is a series of misinterpreted teachings, initiated by the "experimenters", to help us cope with life. The non-literal messages will never be known.  In science matter changes....We know what happens to our bodies, but what about our spirit?  Our individual uniqueness.  Does that change into something else as well?  Maybe that's the meaning behind the resurrection. Maybe we do become pure consciousness when we die.  Wouldn't that be a trip.

Science and religion can reconcile.  All that's required is a lil logic, and some free thinking.  I haven't studied all religions, but I think if we extract from them, the teachings correlate.

I hate to admit it, but I was once a member of church that actively promoted proselytizing. And I got such a rush from "sharing the good news." It felt like I was carving notches in my gun belt for God. Ack. I was about 13 years old and luckily came to my senses by the time I turned 15.

So I can see why some people do that, but it doesn't make it any less annoying. In most cases, the person stops when I ask them to, so I usually don't have to get mean about it.

I have a friend from high school who has followed several different religions. She's definitely searching for something to fill a hole in her life. Many of her brothers and sisters have done the same, so I wonder if there was something about their upbringing or their genetics that left them with this "hole."

I wonder why I'm different. Did I never have that hole? Or did I fill it with something else?

...speaking of the pyramids and their awesomeness..........does anyone have any thoughts on the Mayan calendar ending as of Dec 22, 2012?  I've read so many "theories"--everything from a huge asteroid that will smash the planet earth to smithereens to some kind of global event that will totally destroy life as we know it--a catastrophic war or weather events.........

I've traveled to the Yucatan many times and toured the ruins at Chitzen Itza and Tulum several times.  Quite inspiring.

You're not alone Lisa.  The only way I can make sense of it is that yesterday is still happening relative to where one (an observer) is in the universe.  Then there's that darn complication of travelling at the speed of light and the theory that time and space is dimensional.  My head is starting to hurt so I'll just leave it at that.  hehe

After reading this topic for a few days, I would like to pass on a link to a site that made my day the first time I read it. It seems just so logical to me.  See what you think.

(First: just as you said, SoCalLisa.) The 2012 thing is quite interesting.  Personally, and I will now sit my butt on the crazy bench, I wonder if it might be the year we finally make contact with off planet life!  Since I was a teenager, I have hoped it would happen in my lifetime!  As I'm sure it will happen sooner or later.  I figure when that event happens, then all organized religions will pretty much become irrelevent.

Meg--Thanks for the WSJ article. I found it very interesting, especially with regard to conceptualizing "the God behind God" as transcendent enlightenment, an art form perhaps, a spiritual exercise. I will read it again, when my brain is less foggy from chemo (that should happen, right?).

My daughter send me tons of this stuff. Her black cats named Anubis & Qadesh.....are only the start. Thing is, she would give a stranger her last dollar, has a heart of gold. She is just intolerant of intolerance.
