I'm at the beginning of this odyssey.  I am trying to weigh all the possibilities and have a nagging concern.  I want to know from those ladies who had surgeries done in centers away from home and were driven home, was that a major pain?  We are about 4 hours from MD Anderson. I'm open to have a double mastectomy but no decision will be made of course, till I go through the week long evals at MD.  I tend towards motion sickness anyway and wonder if I would want to stay put for some days after treatment/surgery before trying to drive home.  We have a 10 yr old motorhome that we will be using.

I live 2 hours from my surgery site. I had a bi-lat mast with DIEP flap reconstruction.

I rode home in a Pathfinder with a pillow strapped to my chest and lap. I did take a percocet prior to leaving and really don't remember much about the ride home...or the rest of the day really! I did take a tupperware container with a lid just in case I was sick in the car, but fortunately did not need it.

    Good luck!

If you tell your doctor of your concern I am sure you get a Rx for fenagen(sp) to keep you from gettig sick.  I would think you would be more comfortable in your own bed. With Rx for dizziness and pain meds you should be ok on ride home.

Thanks for shaing your experience, very helpful.  I'll know more next week about what traveling will be happening.  I like this center so much and really want to have as much done there as possible.
